The 2012 and beyond Political Thread - Part 2

There appears to be genuine scientific uncertainty about what climate change does to the number of hurricanes, but there seems little doubt that it makes the ones that occur worse. Warm ocean water (and the oceans have been warming markedly over the years) is essentially hurricane food. And warm air holds more moisture leading to heavier rains, as we saw with Harvey. On the bright side, one projection I saw shows Irma headed straight for Mar-a-Lago. That would be as close as humanity might ever get to proof of God's existence.

The extremist websites where Trump fans get their news are saying that Hurricane Harvey was caused by the government to kill Republicans, or "real Americans", depending. A sane person might point out that Republicans control every branch of the federal government, but it's worth noting that after 8 years of stories about the government using magic weather machines to kill Republicans, they can't stop now. It's a lot harder to turn off a conspiracy theory than it is to turn it on.

Hurricane Harvey wasn't so great for Texas, but it made CNN far more interesting. Instead of the 24 hour Trump Network, they actually talked about news. It might be the longest they've ever gone without using the T word in two years.
Uh, Trump is President of the United States. What he does is news, even if it's almost never good news.
This response seems more knee jerk than logical. CNN never talked about Obama or Bush every day. They all had the same title. But I understand this type of reaction. We've all been told by crazy people that CNN is fake news. If someone criticizes CNN, it's easy to assume that they're one of Trump's sensitive snowflakes. Some of us criticize CNN for more rational reasons.

Hope everyone had a Happy Labor Day!! DDT is doing something he's really good at, bankrupting companies...except for this time, the company is the USA. Just remember this, when you try to retire!! https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/9/5/16240282/obamacare-sabotage-trump He holds nothing sacred, except his ego. Listens to no one... [size=7]going to keep my life vest close at hand
I don't usually like mocking a president's name. Most of the insulting names for Obama were pretty stupid, except Nobama. That wasn't bad. But I like DDT. It makes a point - like Nobama - and someone will have to explain it to his fans before they understand.

just for shits and giggles...and cuz I love this video so much

There are those who think global warming, climate change, isn't real just because of the freezing weather and heavy snow blizzards every winter, especially in northern regions (LOL). Wasn't that "charming," the video The Big Cheeto tweeted of Hillary Clinton going down from a golf ball lobbed into her back as she climbed onto a plane. Implied he was the one who did it. And he retweeted it from an account called "fuckedupmind." So Presidential ! What a smooth move ! He's such an old grouch pot that he's a "sore winner." Probably stems from knowing he lost the popular vote to Clinton. Plus she can write entire lengthy books, while he struggles with forming coherent sentences.

All Thee Angels Come Together ~ //oo\\ We are all prophets in our own way. This is one of my favorite writings with the word prophet in it. It talks about musicians who sing about love and peace. Ezekiel 33:31 - 33:33 31 And they come to you like people do, and they sit before you [as] my people, and they hear your words, but they will not do them: for with their mouths they show much love, [but] their hearts go after their own wants and desires. 32 And, lo, you [are] like unto them as a very lovely song of one that has a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear your words, but they do them not. 33 And when this comes to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet has been among them. "Love Is All You Need" "Give Peace A Chance" ~ //oo\\

Speaking of prophets... Sounds of Silence by Simon and Garfunkle Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a streetlamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dare Disturb the sound of silence "Fools" said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence" Rush also share a similar line about prophets in one of their songs... This is very apropos of today's world situation, and in this country in particular... We are so stuck with our head in our phones, accepting of a president whose thoughts only seem to run 140 characters and no further. Yesterday it's spending billions on a wall, today it's getting way too involved in the NFL and it's players exercising their constitutionally given freedom of speech. Regarding the song Sounds of Silence, take heed... A great comment I found online... Brettins Basically the song says if we choose not to speak out against injustice in the world, it becomes the norm - the "silence like a cancer grows" till there is no way to turn the ship around. Once enough people have let the status quo of oppression go on, an individual voice is useless - and echoes in the well of silence. The neon god is like you said, our materialist culture distracting us from looking at the obvious: people are suffering right in our neighborhood and we don't talk about it, we don't think about it, because that's what we do. Because no one spoke out against it, and it gets harder to. . The signs are all around us...all of us need to speak out against the injustice before our constitutionally given rights are taken away, before racism and misogyny grows any further...like a cancer, and our country, instead of being one of the most progressive countries in the world, starts moving backwards...ignoring global warming, ignoring "all people undivided" and turning into some people divided... The move to ignore science and scientific fact, is in fact, giving away our superpower status. The signs are all around us... Are we spending $18 billion to build a "thing"(the wall) that will keep mainly hard working people out, who are taking jobs Americans don't want or is it better to spend $18 billion on people, on the science, to keep us on the forefront of technology and medical innovation, helping with hurricane relief etc. I know where my vote goes.

I wonder if this will get the same media attention that the Dylan Roof shooting did. seeing as he's from Sudan and presumably a muslim and not a white trash racist i'm betting it won't http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-41382492

you'll never see hockey players sitting during the anthem and many times they have to stand through 2 of them. reason #1,724 why hockey is the best sport
-
THIS IS AMERICA If you wish to stand and sing the anthem it's ok. If you wish to kneel in protest of a government and presidential policy it's ok. It is no reflection on our soldiers. Many of them are not happy with our president either.
-
9 people shot in a 7 hour span last night in Chicago killing 2. but hey, we're getting rid of the statues and kneeling for the anthem, that will eventually fix things

3 1/2 million people are stranded on a hurricane ravished U.S. Territory and supplies have been sitting in truck trailers for days without drivers to deliver them. Our U.S. leaders can't fly a few seaplanes worth of drivers in? What in The H*** are they doing with their time?
