The new album is really quite good. I'm not a great lover of U2, but this one seems to have a certain something that has been missing from their music for a number of years.
The new album rocks! U2 have made some essential albums for any good music collection...Joshua Tree, The Unforgettable Fire, Achtung Baby are all 5 star albums in any book. I love their new stuff too. Hopefully they'll bring their 360 Tour out west in the fall so I can finally see them!
Probably the only two five star albums of theirs for me are "Joshua Tree" and "Achtung Baby". Quite a few four star ones, though, including their new one.
OK, 5 Star in my book then.
ok, in my book then, they have produced one 4 star album (pop) and the rest are two to three star albums

Well, there no need for me to go scrabbling round the fan-sites for sneak previews of U2's stage design this time round. The band are making the set-design a major feature of their promotional material. Visit their site here to view a 3D graphic representation of the design: http://360.u2.com/ From that graphic it seems all their band equipment will be stowed away under the stage. And as before there's going to be an "inner sanctum" for general admission fans - which apparently there will be a point of entry random pick from fans wanting access - it will not be first come first served - although the usual queues will form for best places both in and out of that area. They boasted about something uniquely different - and seem to have actually delivered. Martin

U2 played in a small theater in a Boston Suburb... Yup, in Somerville ('Slummerville' for us here in MA)...it sounds like Bono is taking a page from Paul's secret gig idea. Only a couple of hundred people were able to attend and all tickets were won via local radio talk shows. They not only performed the gig (which was a prelude to their upcoming world tour), but they also had a little Q & A with the audience as well. I'm not a huge fan (of their recent stuff anyway) - But I thought this was pretty cool.
-
The small theatre show was great fun for those that were able to share it, live, on-line via U2's own web-site, certainly on radio - it was due to be on TV as well I think..... Not quite a Paul like secret show as it was only a five song teaser set for promotional purposes. Here's the set list: Get On Your Boots, Magnificent, Breathe, I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight, Vertigo Paul's secret shows were a full 90 minutes long. But U2's pre tour and album launch has certainly been comprehensive both here and in the US. Tickets go on sale very shortly now for the European leg. Details are already up on their tour web-site. Good luck with the queues for position then I'm past that test of stamina nowadays and enjoy the luxury of a dedicated seat and a leisurely entry. Mind you U2 always stage their shows for the distant viewer and nobody misses out on spectacle. Don't forget that U2 are running a random chance draw on the day for the key innermost area - somewhere at the entry point your ticket will be scanned and a lucky few will get a wristband or other pass for the closest point to the stage. I think they assume people come in pairs as each lucky winner should get the chance of two wristbands for themselves and their other half/mate. Martin

So I did enjoy How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb from 2004. Is the new cd any good? I would love to see U2 live, but so much $$$$$ I don't have.

In LA, they're playing the day before my birthday but not enough money to buy tickets! I love U2 and have only seen them once!

There will be a second leg in 2010. Perhaps you can see them then. We are not able to see them this time around, but hope they come to Philly on the next go-around.

Happy Birthday, Bono!!!

Well, tonight's the night. U2 kick off their 360 Tour tonight in Barcelona. Expect images and video clips on the internet from fans within hours The atU2 forum has fans lined up to relay the live set-list to this forum thread: http://forum.atu2.com/index.php?topic=6699.0 and of course reviews and posts in general on that message board: http://forum.atu2.com Martin

First reports coming: Guess what they're arguing about Somehow I feel better about similar debates here. Controversy will erupt now though as Bono is patching into the International Space Station - apparently going to be every night - having a lengthy video conference with the crew. Somebody we know did that first Martin

As an update to my earlier post, U2's management have abandoned the lottery for the inner circle idea. They have resorted to the traditional time honoured "First come, First Served" In a reply to the atu2 forum they issued the following advice: Here is a basic guideline of what the U2 360° Tour has planned for the General Admission/Field Entrance Procedures. Please check for any updates as we fine tune these details once we start our tour. * For safety reasons, The U2 360° Tour, along with the stadiums, will not permit any overnight camping or lines on venue property. This includes parking lots and streets surrounding the venue. All gates and entrances to these points will be closed. * We plan on allowing General Admission/Field patrons to begin queuing at the venue entrances between 9:00am - 12pm on SHOW DAYS. This time will be based on local authority's regulations. We will try to post these times on the website once we get this information. * Local and tour security staff will assist patrons with field/pitch tickets to the general queuing line, which should be one centralized location. The U2 360° Tour will not have any responsibility if field/pitch ticket holders "police" themselves with the use of a numbering system. * We will only recognize the "first come first serve" system based upon actual entry at gates at the specified time. * We have requested that the venues provide port-o-lets if no exterior restroom facilities are available. * Other amenities (for example misting stations and concessions) will be available ONLY at venues where space and permits allow. * Items such as banners or flags on sticks, coolers, bottles, cans, umbrellas, portable chairs or electronics (other than mobile phones and point and shoot cameras) will be not be allowed in the stadium, so please make arrangements to store these items prior to your entry into the stadium. * Once the general admission gates open, the U2 Tour Staff with assistance from local authorities will supervise the filling of the "inner circle" * We ask that these ticket holders proceed in an orderly fashion as to not risk injury to one's self or others. Once the inner circle has reached capacity, the remaining ticket holders will be allowed to fill in on the general field/pitch area.Patrons that gained entrance to the "inner circle" will be either wrist banded or stamped upon their exit from that area. It is important that all patrons keep their tickets in their possession as they may be asked for both forms of proof. The U2.Com Team Martin

Well after a little delay while family plans unfolded and cemented - is that mixed metaphor? .... I have bought a ticket to see U2 at Wembley Stadium on the 15th August. I was still able to secure a seat even at this late hour direct from TicketMaster. Top shelf at the rear of the stage. I know it's supposedly 360 "in the round" but having seen YouTube clips it's clear that U2 quite rightly face the bulk of the audience most of the time. Apparently the drum kit does a 180 degree turn occasionally and the band performs to the rear for a few songs. But from up in the gods I will be able to see what I always go for with U2 namely the spectacle of the staging. Esp the "claw" now renamed the "space station" by Bono I've seen Zooropa and Pop at the old Wembley so am pleased to add this latest tour to my collection. I saw Elevation and Vertigo in Dublin and Twickenham respectively. Expectations building.... Martin

Congratulations on your ticket! A short review would be appreciated. We will have to wait until 2010 for our view of the "claw".

And it arrived today - isn't it completely irrational the delight that handling a piece of stiffened card brings? In this instance it's a dedicated "Wembley" ticket with an image of the stadium, and a Wembley holograph for security purposes. In past years a special ticket has been part of the "U2" experience. I still have the stubs, I've opened the jewel case of the related album and put them behind the part where the CD rests. Mind you in part the "Wembley" experience is also part of this as it is the first time I have visited the venue since the Stadium was completely rebuilt. I cannot imagine a more fitting place for U2's new Claw stage. I'll be interested to see if the top shelf at Wembley wobbles like the third deck at Twickenham did the last time I saw them. I recall a rather forlorn attempt by the Twickenham staff handing out a leaflet warning that the top shelf does move with the vigorous activity of spectators - and that, while this was to be expected and safe, would we consider not dancing so energetically ---- guess what? As to a review, try and stop me..... Martin
