I like Rusty...hes a good guy. He does look a bit gormless sometimes I'm not bothered either way on whether he plays guitar for Paul or not. But I dont think they are looking increasinly bored during the 1000 version of Drive my car et al
Rusty gormless!?
haha sorry. sometimes he does though...I dont mean it in a bad way. He just has a look about him sometimes

Well, he is highly intellectual.

I'd go see Paul even if he was with somebody odious, like Jessica Simpson He's Paul and there is no stopping me that's crazy to blow off Paul *evah! I'd also go see Rusty regardless. It's just silly to say he's ordinary since playing with Paul for a near decade qualifies him as extraordinary : Now, if you have specific issues comparing solos like you find the new solos anachronistic, or he doesn't shred enough for ya, that's fair. But saying he is ordinary is just inaccurate. Personally I think Rusty plays delicious tasty bits and divine slide. And I grew up listening to George Harrison so I know beauty However, Paul can outplay just about anybody on guitar. He's a virtuoso!
Ok, I'd go to see Paul even if he played alone. ops: And I agree with you in everything. But I just can't stand seeing Rusty criticized here negatively by others. Paul and the Band are great!

This is sorta straying off the main topic a bit, but wouldn't it be cool if paul did a tour like "An Evening with Paul McCartney". And he was by himself and just sang and played piano and acoustic guitar
-
yes omg wixrocks...yes that would be immense massively...even with some strings or brass that would be so cool. Hes done it for 1 or 2 songs in one off circumstances but just yes yes yes...
-
I think it would be even cooler once he gets into his 70s and he can be like in a rockin chair with a living room back drop and be like "now its sing along time with grandpappy mccartney"

Mod Post: This thread is an informative topic tracking the recording and personal performances of Rusty Anderson and serves a useful purpose informing new visitors of his work beyond his role as Paul's lead guitarist. There are many other threads devoted to the relative merits of guitarists from earlier line-ups where this current debate can continue. It would be disappointing to have the factual elements reporting his recorded work lost amongst a "who is best" debate that can happen elsewhere - or indeed other off-topic diversions seen in the last few posts. It's also an appropriate place for Rusty to enjoy a modest little bit of unfettered fandom Martin
-
Thanks Martin. I agree.

In An Evening With Paul McCartney DVD, I do like the mash up of I'm Down with both George and Rusty's guitar leads. That was pretty cool. However, as much as I do like Wix, John slides his elbow on the keyboard is much better (and sexier)...

Is Rusty a nickname? Or why is he called so? This is probably a stupid question but where I live, I know loads of people with red hair who are nicknamed Rusty!
Rusty's real name is Russell Scott Anderson. In his family, there's a tradition to be called by the middle name so at first Rusty was called Scott but Rusty had a cousin that was called Rusty and he liked it a lot and as it turned out, he's Rusty from Russell. I'm thinking that Rusty's the first to break the tradition It was explained in one of the Q&As that he did with the late Martha, it's either at his old site or Jorie's site, I forget which now as time goes on it gets all blended in after a while.
-
May i just add my .02 Paul can do "Day Tripper" and George's "Something" because he has confidence in his lead guitarist and Rusty can do "Junior's Farm" because he is inspired and he's been there for almost a decade, which says enough

Whilst I dont entirely disagree with this. the original post saying he didnt find Rusty as good as previous guitarists did start it in a thread of its own to which it was then moved into this thread, hence why the conversation furtherd itself here

Well, I am currently listening to "Born on Earth" ; and I must confess to being filled with "unfettered fandom" -- or some grammatically correct version thereof... Kristi

Hi: just had to comment here on finding it amusing that Paul ended up seated next to Julia Roberts for the entire Golden Globes ceremony this weekend! (In light of Rusty's great song "Julia Roberts" off his new album "Born on Earth")
