Thanks for that info Martin.... I actually think I have that week off reserved at work, not sure if I'll be going to London... but will keep it in mind when making plans. I just have to say, I am a bit upset that when I tuned in at 0200 AM last night, it was a repeat of the first show... I think I'm going to read the spoiler...

Finally... was able to see the Beast Below!!! I so loved it and can't wait for more I love the twists and turns and it reminds me of bits here and there from other sci-fi too! I am sure that I am hooked on this show... there is no other show quite like it I have no one to compare to, but I really enjoy Amy as the companion... such Scottish pluck It seems that they are now playing a 3 hour show on BBC America, the first hour is the synopsis on the previous shows with all of the Doctors, and explaining the Time Lord and the Tardis etc. The second hour is the first show again and then the third hour was the Beast below. I expect they are trying to capture more of an audience over in the States and it is really good to get all the info at once. For the Beast Below at the end, as they are panning away and you see the Star Whale sailing thru space, with the city on it's back.... I noticed a long crack there... is that related to the crack in Amy's room? Does the crack follow Amy, or is it something that has been present in other previous shows?

Hi there love2travel, so glad you're enjoying the new season. Yes, "The Beast Below" was a good episode, wasn't it, with some good twists and asking some searching questions about what lengths people should go to in order to survive. The story nicely set up the opportunity for Amy to prove to the Doctor - and to us as the viewers - that she was worthy of a place in the TARDIS. The one-hour synopsis show sounds a great idea, to provide new viewers with all the backstory they need to enjoy the show. You know I missed the crack at the end. : Martin had to point it out to me. It might not be the last you see of it, so keep your eyes peeled in future is all I'm saying! It looks like it's connected to the crack in Amy's room, although I don't know any more than you yet, but it definitely looks as if it's setting something up for later in the season. Each season of the relaunched show so far has included a thread that runs through it, resulting in the season finale. You'll see that when you get the boxsets. The crack in the wall appears to be the one for this year - but what it all means I guess we'll have to wait and see! Don't worry it's only been in the episodes this season, so it's not something you've missed from previous years.

The Beast Below...One of the elements that I have always loved about Doctor Who is that no matter what time period they travel to, the past may be found in the future, and the future may be found in the past. I was so amused to find children sitting at inkwell student desks in the 29th century! The smilers...they were scary, but intriguing at the same time. They very much reminded me of the fortune teller machines found in arcades of yesteryear. Even the sounds heard as the smiles turned to frowns were reminiscent of those made from the fortune teller machines. They were freaky, yet cool! Amy...staying with my thoughts that she was experiencing cold feet the night before her wedding, traveling down Memory Lane, perhaps even wishing that the Doctor would reappear and save her from her impending nuptials. It appears that she may have been considering leaving her groom at the altar. When she is picking the padlock, speaking with Mandy about her wedding day, she ponders, "I wonder what I did?" I don?t believe that she would ponder this question had she fully intended to follow through with her marriage. I like the dynamics of the relationship being built between the Doctor and Amy. However, it seems that it is a bit too soon for her high level of confidence with decision making, etc. I feel as though she should still be a bit in awe of the Doctor and her surroundings, rather than making front line, life- altering decisions so soon. Clearly she is smart, so this must be our indication of her strength of character. We?ve not seen any vulnerability from her yet...I would like to see this from her, as she is only human! The tongue/vomit?disgusting!!! Still following the crack?

Glad you enjoyed the episode TLP. I agree about Amy. Don't get me wrong, I love the character and think Karen plays her really well. But she does come across as being really relaxed in episodes 2 and 3, when the Doctor's world should come as a bit of a shock! Without revealing any details, an encounter with some certain angels might allow her to show a more vulnerable side later on though......

I have already been informed that this two-part episode will be watched with the lights on! Daleks up next for us...based on the earlier discussion in this thread, I am not exactly sure what to expect from this episode. As the Daleks are our favorite villain, I am hoping for the best!

TLP... I will also be watching the angels with the lights on that night....and, just maybe sleeping with the lights on too .... I have goosebumps just thinking about it... I agree, I think Amy should be more in awe of the Doctor right off the bat, but as you could see, when he turned around, there she was hanging herself outside the TARDIS without him.... she has alot of pluck that Scottish lassie!!! I did like that comment she made about her wedding...."I wonder what happened" and then the answer... Unknown... or Uncertain... she is going to be a bit of a roller coaster ride for the Doctor...

I liked the first half of the Angels two parter. Podgie (I am psyched for the second half!) Monkey

I may skip this one.... Angels that is....

The answer of unknown given was a brilliant move!!! This presented so many loose ends to be tied...I love that they did this!

Don't miss it Love2travel, it's a GREAT episode. Scary, but classic Doctor Who, great story telling - and some laughs amongst the scares to lighten it a little for the little ones watching. The trailer for the second part (showing on Saturday in the UK) looks incredible.

Sorry Anita. I bet Joe's sister won't be talking to him for a while after that! And she was probably expecting a nice photo of Paul in concert or something. Hope you enjoy the Dalek episode tomorrow night - and let us know what you think. Don't forget to watch right up to the start of the credits at the end....

I am a bit of a scaredy cat from certain things.... Long story.... I had something really scarey that happened to my neighbor years ago and now when I come home, I have to look in the closets... silly but true. I love to go to museums and look at the statuary... I'm afraid this will spook me too much.... I can't watch Stephen King either... I have to watch it in bits, if at all. Maybe that's what I'll do with this.
-
Hi, sorry to hear that love2travel. The first 10 minutes or so are actually very funny before it gets into the scary bits and there's another funny interlude in the middle before it gets dark again. So a bit of relief in between. Steven Moffatt used to write sitcoms (including "Coupling") back in the 90s and it often surfaces in his writing for Doctor Who, so you get that comic relief alongside the scares.
-
I will give it a try Birthday... ops: As long as it is not something like Stephen King... that's too much for me... I guess I can always turn it off ops: I'm not a total wimp. I managed to watch quite a bit of a BBC ghost chasers story last night in one of your castles over there.... I just got home from work and am catching the tail end of Dr. Who.... gotta go.... Dalecks....

He is just to Young to be the Doctor

Most fearful foe in the Universe.......nahhhhhhh didn't seem like it to me.... what did I miss? I didn't see any crack this time...did I miss it?

The Doctor - and us fans - have a long history with the Daleks and have had more fearful story-lines with them - their particular "trait" is that they have had all sense of "humanity" in the sense we know removed making them ruthless opponents in their battles with their enemies - no mercy whatever. They've been around for as long as the Doctor has been on TV dating back to the days when props and special effects were in their infancy - mainly cardboard cut-outs - and the Daleks were seriously hampered with poor mobility - the sense of menace was created more by script writing and cliff-hanger serial presentation. They're kept around out of a sense of loyalty and given more modern special effects now are much more menacing - you'd need to see their stories in the series closing story-lines of the past few series to get a better feel of their potency. These Daleks were a few straggling remnants of a much greater Dalek Empire tasked with recovering this capsule of pure Dalek DNA, for lack of a better description, with the ambition of revitalising the race (or in BBC terms - the Brand ) The new multi-coloured swap-shop set of new generation Daleks have been out and about in the UK making guest appearances to raise their profile - this episode was just a season opener - a taster of things to come - and the new form Daleks features in the first of the up-coming downloadable games. As to the crack - yes, you blinked - oops, that's next week As the Tardis vaporised away at the end, the camera zooms in onto the crack seen in the wall behind. Martin
