The ..2012.... Political thread

[quote="beatlechick"][quote="patpatpatti"]...you lost me at "prove my point"... ...yours are only opinions; theirs are only opinions...why is it is so very important to be "right?"...those who always need to be right keep us all from moving on... ...just an opinion... And a very well said opinion. Tally, we get it! Time to move on. I said what I said because you wanted it said. The only one ignorant is the one that has to always be right. Subject has changed, move on there's nothing to see here. Oh....I forgot...only Paul McCartney has a right to free speech. (or is it only people who you agree with politically that have that right?) Oh....and thank you for only proving my point about ignorant replies because I wanted you too.......appreciate it. I'm not asking you to move on. Please stay. I love your posts.

Wait..what? People still care about this silly old joke?

Sharon Angles (tea partier) is asking for Harry Reid to be.... assassinated. Basically saying that IF congress doesn't change we might have to exercise our 2nd amendment. Which mean the right to bear arms. and the right wing nuts are worried about a joke made by a rock star.
Wah, wah, wah.....lets cry about it. Do you know the awful kinds of things that people, of ALL political persuasions, say in the privacy of their homes each day? We'd never know about this, except that the leftist media can't stop talking about the "psychotic" tea party attendees. Was that statement extreme/stupid? Sure...but let us remember that not ALL tea partiers want Reid dead. (What about the awful things left-wingers everywhere said about Bush? What about the threats? Can we whine about that on this board, too? Not without being insulted...that's for sure.)

I have to correct you on this point. Earnings are not the same thing as revenues. They are the same thing as net income. BP's earnings were not $240+ billion, they were $20.8 billion, if i'm reading the financial figures presented in oobu24's email correctly.
there going to file bankruptcy anyway..after they borrow 50 billion from a US bank..don't want to leave the country without a final... F%$# U.
I don't understand: Why would a US bank lend them $50 billion if they are going to go bankrupt?
Its the new American way.
I still don't understand. Please elaborate. Thanks.

First off the media is hardly leftest. Second these people who are self proclaimed tea partier are nothing more than the extremest Rep.. The Rep moderates who want to get some business done in Washington have become so attacked by these nut jobs, because they want to see more moderate middle thinking. . So they filtrated into the tea party who didn't support bank bailouts but the wing nuts pushed there anti HC reform on them and most didn't even understand what they were angry about. It all a conspiracy in my mind to get there real candidates that those who control our politics want in by offering crazy up for the Tea Party and than that old white guy will start looking mighty good. Have you ever asked yourself. Who really controls the majority of media in the US. What if theire agenda was divide our country. If so there doing a pretty good job of it. I voted Rep for 25 years until the Bush crowd. Than I lowered my guard and realized that the people's party is the Democratic party and even though many lke to believe the Rep party, is the church, going hard working, heterosexual party.. Make no bones about it .. your being used. Its the party of the Greedy wall street/banking crowd, military industrial complex, millionaire, and oil industry and any thing corporate. There agenda a one world order. Have each section of business laid out to giants who contol the flow of money and business in their areas. Think about it. How many independent Oil Co are left today? How many ma and Pa stores? How many country doctors working for themselves. How about the local pharmacy? Media who left that not controlled by some giant conglomerate. Who can afford to start a business in the US today on a 100 bucks like are parents did. Why do you think the GOP doesn't support border protection. They want cheap labor flocking into the US. They want the middle class working for wage they made 40 years ago even though the buying power is 4 times less. Rep party screams wasteful spending if its anything that going to tie up tax to the little guy. and they can't get there grubby mitts on it. like gov supplied HC. They don't want to ease the financial pressure on the middle class and allow them to grow into a business that might give them competition. You scare a man by telling him his HC might get pulled if he family member gets sick and watch them get back in line if there bucking for a raise.

How stereotypical can we be here? Because I am SURE that absolutely every single person who has ever even THOUGHT about attending a tea party is a radical, right-wing nutjob. You should realize that when you start talking like that, people interested in having a serious discussion tune out. As long as we're going to chat about people who get angry over things they don't really know about...let us chat about, oh, EVERYONE. To be honest, it's uninformed voters that choose the President every 4 years. Here's an interesting example of being uninformed- ever watch those videos entitled "How Obama got elected"? Did you know that most of the Obama voters surveyed thought that Republicans were in control of Congress when Bush left office? Really, they should've been pissed at their own party...who still can't get anything done. Classic example at people being angry at something that doesn't exist. Do you really not know who controls a majority of the media in this country? Take a look at the man in the White House and the party in control of Congress....and there you have your answer.

Hard to believe but there are some here who don't know that the main stream media companies in the US are ALL privately corporate owned by mainly right wing owners such as General Electric which owns NBC, Disney owns ABC. CBS is owned by Viacom . Rupurt Murdock owns Fox and WSJ etc. Get educated.

That's all fine and dandy....but do you watch any of these stations? Regardless of the owners, most of the major news outlets slant left (not all, of course, but many.) I don't have to "get educated," as you so rudely suggested. You need but only to watch a few programs on each channel to figure out the slant....sometimes you only need a few minutes! By the way, CBS is owned by the CBS Corp., not Viacom.

To tell you the truth, there are stupid people on all sides of the coin. That being said, no one I know ever thought like what you'r quoting here. We all looked into what we were voting on, and that is NOT a small majority but a rather large one. Yes, of course not all people care to look at a candidate but look along their party lines. There, however, a lot more that are researching their candidate. Either they like what they see or they don't. I know liberals who would not vote for Obama because they did not like what they saw. I know conservatives that could not stomach what they saw in McCain, ie Sarah Palin, so they did not vote on their candidate. I do not watch videos that are slanted in one way or another. None of them paint a very good picture of the opposing side. Yes, I am a Democrat - a lifelong Democrat but I don't go into the voting booth with blinders on. There are perhaps 1 or 2 people that I know that do but out of a group of 200 people that I know, that's a very low ratio.

Just pointing out that it's somewhat unfair to take an extreme statement made by ONE person and use it as justification that we should be scared of the tea partiers. Do you mind if I ask what news stations you watch now? Not planning on attacking you should you say the "wrong thing." Just curious. I basically watch Anderson Cooper someone that is really pretty damn fair. I listen to CNN at lunch and on my way home from work on my Sirius radio. I mainly listen to the BBC while at work. I would love it if I could get CSPAN on my phone again since we don't have access to the internet at work. On rare occasions I watch ABC Evening News. I have never seen a leftist newscast. Liberal/center but not leftist. And what do you watch?

Have you not been watching all the debate about the bank bailout and how they made loans they knew would or could not be paid back to risky borrowers? Than the banks file for a bailout and get tax payers money to reimburse them. Nothing law wise has been changed to stop this practices.. company file bankruptcy everyday to avoid lawsuits. Why do you think the government is asking for a escrow account to be set up? So they can get at the money. This is a British company. I suspect we have only so much jurisdiction over stuff not our soils. Its speculation since I not a lawyer or international lawyer at that. Why is BP borrowing the money? I thinking and again not fact but thinking their money is off shore and protected if things get ugly. If they borrow the money and it looks like it going to get deeper than 50 billion than A) they file bankruptcy and it cost them nothing and there off the hook.. BP will be up and operational under a new name in a few months but the company who caused the spill will legally be defunked and you normally can't collect on a company once they go bust. Happen all the time. I have friends who owned a business which is a small division of a large company that got sued. The large company filed bankruptcy and within months it was up and operating with new owners. Now how that works for the those who are suing, I can't explain but it a easy way to shed responsibility and put a cap on losses. Why does BP need to borrow money? If they made 240 billion in 09 alone that should be plenty of money. Maybe they don't want money the US can't touch involved in the clean up.
-
To be fair, Billion $$ companies have the money on paper. The money is usually tied up on other projects, like a possible one that I heard about today concerning BP and Alaska possibly doing even deeper water drilling but we shall see on that one. Drill Baby Drill! Billion $ companies will borrow the money because their actual money is tied up. It's kind of like you owning a house worth a $1 Million but can't get the money from it unless you get a loan or you sell your interest in it. It's worth that money but the money is tied up.
-
I don't think a oil companies profits are on paper. Oil is pumped into gas tanks every second. There selling a product in high demand. There making a huge profit off oil. there cost to pull it out of the ground is really not much once they have the infrastructure in place.. Yes you right about BP and Alaska. My friend just got hired full time on a new camp by BP. So this must be the camp your talking about. . I don't know if it off shore drilling that is usually done I believe out of the Kenai. She on the north slope so maybe it is considered off shore. All I know as a kid she used to be pretty liberal and man has she turned red neck since she got up there.. She send me all this crap they send out about Obama and its all goofy stuff like he wasn't born in America.. just mental midget stuff.

I agree with you- stupid people are everywhere we look. They aren't just classified to one belief system or political persuasion. That's what I was trying to convey, apparently I didn't do so very well. Not sure what it is that I "quoted" that you find so hard to believe- can you clarify? Up until this election, most people I knew were uninformed politically. But with this past election....many people I knew were only informed (and even then, just partially) about only one candidate....which is unfortunate. In the past, I've honestly heard people say they were voting for the "cutest" candidate....or the candidate who was behind in the polls....just because they were "losing". And they were serious. Maybe it's just where I live....but sheesh. Talk about wasting a vote. You don't watch any slanted videos? You don't have many to pick from, then.
