With John and Cynthia at the same event.

Yes, I see. And the last photo says circa 1965, but that is another photo from Mike’s wedding in June, 1968!
I didn't get that far !!

^ That is probably one of the last pics of John and Cynthia together in public (except in India)
Also, note the tie Paul is wearing- looks like the same one he wore to the church blessing on his wedding day in 1969. (This pic was taken before they recorded Hey Bulldog and before they went to India)

January 18, 1968, Hanover Grand Hotel, London - Paul McCartney & Jane Asher attend party for the group "Grapefruit"
The day before my 9th birthday...it's all beginning to seem a long time ago now.

From Grapefruit's Wikipedia Page
In summer 1967, Terry Doran, a longtime friend of Brian Epstein's and the new managing director of Apple Publishing, signed Scottish-born singer and bass guitarist George Alexander, born Alexander Young... In November 1967, John Perry, a former member of Tony Rivers and the Castaways, pitched some of his songs to Doran at Apple Publishing. Doran rejected the songs but proposed combining Perry and his bandmates Geoff Swettenham and Pete Swettenham with Alexander to form a new group. The band was named Grapefruit by John Lennon after a book written by his future wife, Yoko Ono that was also entitled Grapefruit. Doran became their manager, seeing some commercial potential in them.
....They were the second band signed to Apple Publishing, following the Liverpool group Focal Point, who were signed by Doran in September 1967. In addition, The Beatles continued to take an interest in Grapefruit, with John Lennon introducing the band to the media in January 1968... As well as Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr of the Beatles, Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, Donovan, and Cilla Black attended the press launch and were photographed with the band. Jimi Hendrix and Sajid Khan were reportedly also in attendance.
....Grapefruit's inaugural single "Dear Delilah" ....peaked at number 21 in the UK Singles Chart in the spring of 1968. As a follow-up single, Lennon and McCartney took the band into the studio in January 1968 to record the song "Lullaby" (also known as "Lullaby for a Lazy Day" and originally called "Circus Sgt. Pepper"). However, when RCA asked for the follow-up single, the recording (which had been made at Advision Sound Studios in London) was not turned over, as Lennon and McCartney were in India...
Wonder if Cynthia knew she was attending an event for a group that was named by Yoko. Must not have been an easy time for her.
Also wonder if Paul and/or John helped them write Dear Delilah... it sounds very much like a song they'd do.
Dear Delilah
Supposedly the Beatles/Grapefruit collaboration "Lullaby for a Lazy Day" (Circus Sgt. Pepper)

Dear Delilah was written by George Alexander.

Always felt sad for Cynthia at that time, since she no doubt knew John was involved with Yoko. Must have been rough to get through. Jane probably knew it was only a matter of time for her and Paul, too, but they both tried to hang in there and make it work a while longer. When you're with someone for a long time, it would be difficult to make that final break, even though that may be the best decision for both people involved.
Yes, the tie Paul is wearing does look like the same one he wore on his wedding day. It was probably "his best tie" that he saved for special occasions, when he wanted to look extra dashing and dapper!

1968 doesn't seem that long ago to me either, lol, even though I was only 7 I remember it well like it was yesterday... (no Beatles song pun intended, lol)

Cynthia probably knew about Yoko, or suspected, but in Jan. 1968, Paul and Jane had just gotten engaged Christmas Day 1967. He hadn’t gotten involved with Francie Schwartz yet either. (Yes, he had met Linda in May 1967, but they had had no contact since then)
ETA: Note Jane’s engagement ring in first photo.

Paul said in an interview once (will have to find where, perhaps in Wingspan) that after he met Linda for the first time, she was always in the back of his mind, and he knew he'd see her again sometime. They definitely were soulmates for her to have made that kind of impression on him. But he probably felt obligated to honor his commitment to Jane at that time, which is understandable, and things worked out eventually the way they were meant to.
Edited to add: Yes, I noticed Jane's engagement ring in the first photo. Very tasteful and elegant, but understated and simple at the same time... I like it! To me anything over $2500 would be way too extravagant for me, lol. If I fell in love with a struggling musician or a man who owns a newspaper stand, and he couldn't afford a a fancy ring, I'd be happy to just wear a cigar band until we could afford something better, lol... I guess that's really love! lol

Oh, yeah, you’re definitely right - he told Linda later that he fell in love with her at the Bag ‘O Nails! (She scoffed at that) But why didn’t he get her phone number then? He might have thought because she lived in NYC, it would never work out and that she wouldn’t uproot herself and her daughter to move to London. Hello? Are you crazy? You are Paul F-ing McCartney!

Suppose I better get on topic and post a pic! Linda gets her man!

I think in 1967-1968 it was much more difficult to have long distance relationships. There was the telephone of course, but that was expensive to make overseas long-distance calls, and it wasn't as easy then to travel and uproot yourself and schedule time to meet up with someone at a far distance for a few days. Today is so much easier because you have the internet, email, and skype to stay in contact, and even airline travel is easier so meeting up in central locations isn't that difficult. Eventually you do both have to be in the same location for the relationship to work, though. Eventually Linda moved to London which was the best choice she made for their relationship. As far as this day and age, I know of many couples who have met online, got to know each other, agreed to meet, and eventually got together and moved to the same place, and seem very happy.
