RE: RIP...for all that have passed
@Bruce M. Physically he would have made a perfect Romeo, costumes and all... but they would have wanted to use a dialect coach to get him to inflect his voice a certain way, and to "talk Shakespeare"... it might have been frustrating for him that he couldn't just be himself and portray the role as Paul McCartney, not as a 15th century Venetian teenager. He's never had a film role where he didn't play himself.
From what I've read he really was interested in Shakespeare during his school years, but Romeo probably seemed too overwhelming of a challenge for him in 1966-67 (when he was offered the role) and that may be why he decided to pass. There was a (supposed) quote from him in a biography that said he took the actress Olivia Hussey (that played Juliet) out to dinner at the time of the movie offer, and that he "really fancied her," but decided not to do the movie.
I think he could do a film role successfully though if he had the right script and director and creative team behind him.

RE: Victoria Moran (Beatle fan) Inducted into Vegan Hall of Fame
@njr Yes, she's a very interesting person to know about
Enjoyed hearing her Beatle stories!
Right now she and her husband (who also works tirelessly for vegetarianism and important causes) are working on a film Miss Liberty about a cow that escapes the slaughterhouse. I'm interested in seeing it!
https://victoriamoran.com/screenplay-miss-liberty/I think the McCartney family (especially Linda!) has been so good about educating people about the basics of being vegetarian, and how to get started with it, and how it helps our health, and the planet. They are and have been a really good influence on so many lives in that aspect, and continue to make a huge difference. Victoria Moran and others like her working today are taking vegetarianism (especially veganism) a bit further and exploring the spiritual aspects of it, and to embrace the sacredness of all life, etc.

RE: The Beatles Picture Thread
@njr
but if we were to get into a time machine back to that very day you mention, our real selves would have already been born and exist at much younger ages.. you'd be about 5-6, and I'd only be 9 months old... so when doing time travel, our current selves would have to merge as the child and baby we were then, as we actually existed in that time, right? It's complicated I know... (insert cross-eyed emoticon here!) but makes me think we probably couldn't go back to that time as the same age the Beatles were then.. unfortunately!Maybe if we showed up in 1961 on the Cavern's doorstep as orphan children--after arriving in a time machine-- Auntie Jin or Aunt Mimi would adopt us so we could at least be adopted cousins of the Beatles growing up... not the best scenario we'd like, but better than nothing

Victoria Moran (Beatle fan) Inducted into Vegan Hall of Fame
Victoria Moran, well-known vegan author and lifestyle coach, was inducted into the North American Vegetarian Society's "Vegan Hall of Fame" on July 15, 2024. The video below, shown at the award ceremony, gives a biography of her life (including how she met the Beatles!) and lists her numerous accomplishments and upcoming projects. (Go to the 4:20 mark for beginning of presentation.) There's so many things that can be said about her work, but in a nutshell she's the author of numerous vegan books and cookbooks, a yoga master, and has a blog and learning center at https://mainstreetvegan.com/
Because she wrote for a well-known teen magazine, Victoria was the youngest correspondent (at age 14) at the Beatles Press Conference in Kansas City in 1964, and also attended two of their other press conferences in Toronto (1965) and Chicago (1966). She was able to meet Mal Evans, and later began a correspondence with him as a fan. Through Mal, she was able to meet John Lennon and Paul McCartney at the Bag O'Nails Club when she was in London in 1967. She wrote in the "beliefnet" link below that
Paul bought us all drinks, chatted a bit, and in between sang a little song: โI wish I was not a Beatle, โcos maybe then I could have some fun.โ
The next night, I was at the same club but without Mal. John Lennon sat at the same table where Paul had been the night before. I considered myself far too sophisticated to bother him like a fan or something (which, of course, I was), but figuring that I knew Mal and all, I spoke to John and he was infinitely kind and characteristically funny. Iโm glad I did it because that was my one chance, and John is gone now.
It was a privilege to be able to correspond with Victoria a few years ago, her work has really been an inspiration to me on my own journey, and loved hearing her Beatle stories, especially ones about the 1964 Beatles concert in Kansas City.
She shared more of her Beatles memories at
(Her Beatle stories begin at the 06:55 mark) and she has a special tribute to John Lennon at https://www.beliefnet.com/columnists/yourcharmedlife/2009/05/john-lennon-remember-imagine-and-give-peace-a-chance.html -
RE: Paul and Linda McCartney recipes
@njr Yes, start out with a frozen veggie burger. (Most veggie burgers come frozen in packages.)
Clicked on the link again, and think it means this:
Take a frozen 1/4 lb vegetarian burger and cook, by loosely wrapping burger in foil, and bake in pre-heated oven [400 degrees F] for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through cooking.
You can follow the rest of the recipe after that

RE: Paul and Linda McCartney recipes
https://www.lindamccartneyfoods.co.uk/our-kitchen/macca-burger/
Found this great recipe online, from above link. If you aren't able to purchase Linda McCartney foods in your area, just substitute a 1/4 lb veggie burger of your choice, and some pre-packaged French Fries or potato wedges (which in England, as you know, are called "Chips"
)
I've copied the recipe and pasted it below in case the link is changed in the future or taken down.
MACCA BURGER -- [Recipe from lindamccartneyfoods.co.uk]
This year flavour is back on the menu, Linda McCartney is celebrating our fantastic vegetarian 1/4lber burger with this extra special burger serve. Created by Paul, exactly how he likes to eat it himself when heโs at home, with zingy pickles and tangy, sweet relish itโll get your taste buds singing.
First, you'll need to over cook your Linda McCartney's Vegetarian 1/4 lb burger from frozen. Start by loosely wrapping your burger in tin foil (just like Paul McCartney does to lock in extra moisture) and preheat the oven 200ยฐC / 180ยฐC fan / Gas Mark 6 [400 degrees F]
Place the burger onto a preheated baking tray and cook in the centre of the oven for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through cooking.
Add your chips to the oven and cook as per packet instructions.
Once the burger is nearly done, remove it from the oven and open the foil. Add your slice of cheese before returning the burger to the oven to allow the cheese to melt on top of the burger for the final 2 minutes.
While the cheese is melting, cut your bun in half and lightly toast both halves so that it is golden in colour. Once toasted, add half your burger relish to the base half and set aside.
Take your burger out of the oven and place on top of your relished bun base.
Then add your sliced gherkins and iceberg lettuce followed by the rest of the relish and finally your bun top.
Take your chips out of the oven and enjoy it all while deliciously hot.

RE: The Paul McCartney Picture Thread
@toris Thanks!
While Paul's emerging beard is an interesting topic for some of us, there isn't a lot of other news regarding him lately that we can talk about. (Other than the occasional video of him getting into his car leaving work, or the opera premiere of Liverpool Oratorio.) He's no doubt been busy rehearsing and getting ready for his upcoming tour, and hopefully writing some new songs as well! Usually every year in July and August he's photographed in the Hamptons with his family. At least he has some precious down time where he can relax a bit out of the public eye until his tour starts. We can always find things to post about until he's back
This photo was taken in Las Vegas last February when he was at the Super Bowl. (Paul brought good luck there... Kansas City won! and enjoyed seeing photos of him talking to Taylor Swift and the Kelce family.)
