I finally saw "Gone Girl" and as expected, even though the book's author wrote the screenplay, the novel is superior. But Ben Affleck looked so foxy (LOL). A joy to watch. He pretty much nailed his part, and Rosamund Pike certainly captured the essence of her complex, malicious, menacing character. Neil Patrick Harris made an impression. An interesting casting decision, Harris. He still makes me think of Doogie Houser (laughs) when I see him. I'm itching to see "Wild," "Cake" and "Big Eyes" on DVD. I recently bought my sister at least 35 DVDs (laughs), all reasonably priced. She doesn't have cablevision, but movies are probably more rewarding and entertaining, usually, than t.v. shows.

Looking forward to Cinderella...it looks excellent!
-
Finally going to watch Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides later today

Recently seen on DVD: "St. Vincent" starring Bill Murrey, Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts--enjoyed this, a well-made character study, rather bittersweet but also heart warming in spots--"Birdman" pretty good but I don't see why it won Best Picture Oscar--"Hecter's Search for Happiness" with Simon Pegg, Rosamund Pike and Toni Collette, a gently whimsical and moving film.

I can't wait to see Home with Jim Parsons! I need a laugh

"The Theory of Everything" is a beautifully made sensitive film. Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones did superb acting and deserved their awards season glory. Saw an Irish movie "Calvary"which was a low budget kind of lurid potboiler which t at least featured lovely scenes from an Irish seaside village and surrounding countryside. It sure looks cold there.

I just saw: American Sniper in an IMAX theatre ... it's intense, not for the faint hearted ... It's worth the ticket price!
We saw this film back in February. Incredibly intense, profoundly moving moments, very well done! I will be adding this film to our DVD/Blu-ray collection.

Saw Cinderella this morning. A few changes made from the original but greatly improved upon. 6 thumbs up!

Chickened out on seeing the end of "Foxcatcher" on DVD. An excellent, well-made film, great acting (from Channing Tatum also), you're thrown into very macho worlds--the military, warfare, guns, wrestling. I did love seeing the Valley Forge woods, the guest chalet at DuPont's estate, Vanessa Redgrave as the mother. Loved the acting. Funny thing, I shied away from the ending knowing in general what happened, and now wonder exactly what happened, how it happened. Maybe I could have watched with the sound turned down. It all just felt too sad and tragic to behold.

Anyone see any live productions that are any good?

I don't watch many movies, too much posing, they can't keep my interest. James Bond has lost his humor. It's just plain action movies.

Anyone see any live productions that are any good?
In years past, on Broadway, I've seen "The Boy From Oz" (Hugh Jackman) "A Steady Rain" (Hugh Jackman & Daniel Craig) "Young Frankenstein" and "Spamalot."
