Top 10 Paul McCartney Unreleased Post Beatles' Songs
-
Two additional rarities that I've recently heard on Youtube's Paul McCartney Channel are:
It's So True (Demo version)
Back on My Feet (Demo version)
While they're not technically "unreleased"because they both came out as B-Sides to Paul "Singles" they are as far as I know "unreleased" Demo's. Here's by brief opinions:
It's Not True (Demo Version) -- Whlle not on the original Vinyl Album of Press to Play, "It's Not True" (Plus Tough on a Tightrope and Write Away) later appeared as 3 extra songs on the subsequent CD Version of PTP. I think this was right at the time that the Industry was starting to convert from Vinyl Albums to CD's! I liked all 3 extra songs better than 3 or 4 tracks that made it on the original Album. I like the "Demo" Version of "It's Not True" a little better than what's on the CD because it has a great Sax in 3 different spots on the record including a wonderful fade out of the song at the end. Love It!
Back on My Feet (Demo Version) - This version has just Paul playing the piano and singing. Again, I like this very simple version a little better than the subsequent full version that was the B-Side to "Once Upon a Long Ago". Elvis Costello took Paul's original song and added some lyics to the full B-side version. I would very much like either version on an Updated Compilation. I like them both pretty equally but I have a soft spot for Paul's Demo because it's such a "pure" alternate take. The lyrics are great and to this day I have no idea why "Back on My Feet" was left off the original "Flowers in the Dirt". It's that good of a song and far better than the last "Flowers" track. I think it was the first song where Paul and Elvis collaborated but Elvis admits it's mostly a Paul song.
Maybe someone can confirm. I think Paul put the "Back on My Feet" Demo on this Site in the "Downloads" Section. Let us know if this is true.

Just got back from the Dentist!!! It went relatively well but now the novacaine is starting to wear off so it's already tender.
Anyway, maybe someone could post the Youtube video of Paul's "It So True" (Demo Version). I would like all of us to hear this version of "It's So True" because I think it's great and a little different than what's on the PTP CD. I love the "Sax" parts particularly the fade-out Ending of the song. I would be interested in what others feel about this song.
Thanks

Thank you so much Nancy. You're right...the title is "It's Not True" one of the extra songs on the CD version of Press to Play. Thanks also for the "Demo version" (the 2nd video you sent above). Personally, I like the "Demo"version better with less overdubs and 80's production.
I wonder what others think about this Demo. I love the Sax especially at the fade out ending portion of the song.

I like both versions a lot, and probably prefer this demo. Like you said I like how the demo is less produced and less 80's sounding. I'm actually not a fan of the saxophone in either version though.

Thanks McCall. Just listened to the demo again of "It's Not True". To each his own, I love the sax on this demo. It breaks up the repetitiion of the lyrics. Whoever it is, he/she is great. At the fade out ending especially, the way the player goes back and forth with the melody is almost like a great guitarist playing the stop and go parts.

Another one of the extra/bonus tracks on the CD edition of Press to Play is "Tough on a Tightrope". Of the 3 extra tracks (Tough on a Tightrope, It's Not True and Write Away) I like "Tough on a Tightrope" the Best although I also really like "It's Not True" a lot also.
Looking back at the Tracklisting for Press to Play, personally I think "Tough on a Tightrope" is better than a few of the tracks that made it onto the proper vinyl album. For example (my opinion only) I think "Tough on a Tightrope"is better than "Talk More Talk, Pretty Little Head and the title track "Press". Looking back, I think "Tough on a Tightrope" should not only have been on the album, it should have been its 1st Single. As a bonus track on the CD, it ended up being the B-Side to the 4th Single on Press to Play..."Only Love Remains". By that time and as a B-side, it never got any exposure and/or radio airplay.
I really like the song and in retrospect it would have been perfect for the Adult Contemporary Radio Format. I think the lyrics are more complete than "It's Not True" another Bonus Track and the B-Side to the 1st Single "Press". I love the bridge and overall lyrics on "Tough on a Tightrope":
"I'm often accused of giving to little,
It's got me confused , I'm split down the middle
Conflicting reviews of our life coming in
It's tough on a tightrope, Yes, it's tough on a tirghrope
Hear me right, I love you from the bottom of my heart
You make the picture bright
You touch me in a way that no one else could ever do
If you'll only love me, I'll love you.

I agree about Tough on a Tightrope. I like it a lot, much more than Talk More Talk and Pretty Little Head (which are easily my least favorite on the album and among the very few Paul songs I really dislike). And I think Tough on a Tightrope is better than Press too.
I think all three of the bonus songs (Tough on a Tightrope, It's Not True and Write Away) definitely should have been included on the vinyl album. In my opinion all three are easily better than at least half of the album tracks. -
