England’s oldest hitmakers: The 25 greatest English rock bands
-
I wonder who will be #1? No, not The Who!
-
Come on Nancy, we all know who is number one! It's THE BEATLES, the one and only! Everyone else is going to have to battle for second! I'm talking about bands such as:
The Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Black Sabbath
Cream
Derek & The Dominos
Gerry and The Pacemakers
The Who
The Kinks
The Yardbirds
Def Leppard
Pink Floyd
Fleetwood Mac
The Zombies
Argent
The Jeff Beck Group
Blind Faith
Yes
The BeeGees (They are considered somewhat British although they are from Australia.)
The Animals
Procol Harum
Queen
The Clash
The Cure
The PoliceJust to name a few!
-
@jl4761 You know I was just being facetious!
P.S. The Bee Gees were born in England and lived there until the late ‘50s. -
When did The BeeGees go to Australia?

August 1958

@njr I can't think of a single song by the Bee Gees that I don't like
-
wandy, like The Beatles, The BeeGees never recorded a bad song!

Me neither! I think they may be my 3rd favorite band. #1 The Beatles (of course) #2 The Moody Blues.
-
@njr My faves are 1. Beatles ( and Beatles related Wings etc etc) 2. ELO.
3.Deep Purple
Then the rest is a toss up. In any order. Bee Gees. Status Quo. Whitesnake. Rainbow. Alice Cooper. I really don't care for anything modern. After all I am 67. HOWEVER! On a whim I downloaded some stuff by Lady Ga Ga, and Lilly Allen. Flippin eck I was surprised just how good their music is. -
@wandy Never heard of Rainbow (they Brits?) Only Alice Cooper song I know and love is School’s Out! We’re the same age and I don’t like hardly any of the new stuff either. I like Lady Gaga and especially her song with Bradley Cooper, Shallow. Also like Adele and Katy Perry.
P.S. I love ELO! -
Nancy, Rainbow is a 70's British band comprising of Ritchie Blackmore and the late Ronnie James Dio! Rainbow would take Rock and Roll to newer heights! There's a live Rainbow concert from the 70's on DVD, check it out.
-
@njr Yes Rainbow 70s Brit rock band. Just wonderful. Did I mention Queen? Love Queen.
-
@jl4761 Wonderful
-
Thanks wandy, there are many great British bands that came out in the 60's and 70's!
-
@jl4761 Yes. To repackage rock n roll and sell it back to the Americans was a major achievement to say the least. Some say that the last great thing Britain exported to America was The Beatles. Let's do a quick survey. Who agrees. Who disagrees
-
I definitely agree wandy, The Beatles were the beginning of the British invasion and were Britain's secret weapon!
-
@jl4761 Don't you think Johnny Rotten and The Sex Pistols were the last great thing?
-
Hi wandy, how are you? Johnny Rotten and The Sex Pistols were a great Punk Rock band that was ahead of their time as well as deserved to be mentioned among Rock's elite bands! Forgive me for forgetting to add The Sex Pistols on the list of the 25 greatest English Rock Bands! As far as being the last great thing, The Sex Pistols were definitely one of them! Its just too bad that The Sex Pistols broke up too soon, that band still had so much to give. With Sid Vicious' death, The Sex Pistols would never be the same again. The Clash were another great Punk Rock band that I failed to mention on the list.

I love Queen too! Did you like the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody”with Rami Malek as Freddy Mercury?
