@njr I think if Paul had another son ( yes I know highly unlikely) he should name him, "Lennon", like Liam Gallagher did? Or was it his brother? I can't stand Oasis, so never took much notice of whose is who. Anyhow, "Lennon McCartney". Has a nice sound to it.

I did my version of that photo. Hopefully my friend lilwillow can post it along with my "3 Savile Row", photos, I took in 1977. Yes that photo is from John's Walls & Bridges LP. Did that album cover annoy you? It effing annoyed me!! The front cover consisted of slats or strips. Just could never get the darned LP back in my record rack. The strips just kept getting caught up. In the end I got so annoyed I got my scissors and snipped them off. Album fitted perfectly after that

That would be kind of cool. And yes, it was Liam. Lennon was born in 1999, the same year as Paulâs first grandson.

Always hated how Oasis were compared to the Beatles. I couldn't see it. The Beatles had class, and charm, not to mention far better song's. Oasis were just charmless "oiks". No class at all.

Well, we must have different definitions of granny music. I listened to these four Lennon songs (I like a couple of them) but to me they don't fit as granny music. To me, the term is mostly about a genre, not about the theme or the lyrics or the sentiment. It's a musical genre that sounds like an old-timey big band on a cruise ship in the 1940s -- that kind of thing, which McCartney did quite a bit as we all know, with Honey Pie, When I'm 64, Your Mother Should Know, etc

@fast-city-line âCrippled Insideâ has a honky-tonk piano but the lyrics arenât granny-style.
Hereâs the list. Let the debate begin!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_recorded_by_John_LennonI'm afraid I don't know enough of John's oeuvre to be able to do the list justice. Just thinking of all the John songs I know, I'd say there are zero granny songs. But I can't be sure one didn't slip through the cracks of my memory. One Ringo granny song I'd nominate:

This is a great song, never heard it before in my life until just now, after 71-81-91-2001-2011-2021 ... 52 years of listening to McCartney. No doubt there are other songs along the way I also never heard, but this one is actually inspired. I like the way he plays with his voice, and at key points uses his voice with the power that he has. I also like the instrumentation and arrangements with woodwinds, sounds like some clarinets. He lets loose with the lyrics, and doesn't worry about heavy meaning or making sense, just has fun up in the air, disportively.
I think John would have called this a âgranny song.â
What does @wandy think?P.S. I have the picture sleeve 45 of this (Take It Away/I'll Give You A Ring) so it was actually properly released.
That was one of my thoughts on listening to it, that it has a little bit of a granny sound to it. I wonder if Lennon wrote any granny songs? I can't think of any contenders at the moment.
You should take a picture of that 45 (A & B) and put it up on the internet so that when people Google images related to this song it will pop up.
I think John's "granny song" was Grow Old With Me... That being said, he didn't get a choice as to whether he ever would've released it... then again, he didn't particularly put much faith in "Nobody Told Me", which I think is one of his greatest songs... "I'm Stepping Out" and "Life Begins at 40" also more on the sentimental "granny" side... Again, he never put the final stamp on them.... sadly. He certainly was developing a more sentimental side, before everything went horribly wrong.
I haven't heard any of those songs -- I've got my homework cut out for me! I can't wait to listen to them! To me, a granny song should have old-timey instrumentation -- like clarinets are the best. I think Ringo did a couple of those in his solo career. I wonder if Lennon uses any of that... I'll find out!
Give Grow Old With me a listen... not one of my faves... never was... but as the years roll on.... I really have learned to appreciate it.
It's good lyrically, but I wouldn't say it's granny

I agree completely toris!
Another one John would have definitely called granny music is You Gave Me The Answer.

@fast-city-line I agree about Step Lightly - Ringo really wrote a granny song there!
I canât think of a single John song that could be placed in the granny classification. -
Hereâs Georgeâs solo songs. Even though I have everyone of his albums, a lot of them only got 1 or 2 listens, so I donât know a lot of these songs!

@njr I too am not that familiar with George's output. I know his solo career the least of the four. But he had a streak in him that I think would be amenable to granny music, I can kind of glimpse it in Savoy Truffle.

I am a MASSIVE George Herringbone fan. I don't know where that lad got his songs from, but I sure know he never got them from the same place as everyone else got their's from, including Lennon & Mac. I also believe his songs have aged better than Lennon & Mac. George was a fantastic song writer.

@wandy
There's a whole bunch of George songs that I esteem highly, I just never followed his career like I have the other 3: Something, Here Comes the Sun, Taxman, I Want to Tell You, I Need You, Savoy Truffle, For You Blue, Photograph, My Sweet Lord, and perhaps my favorite -- the least mentioned or appreciated of all: Sail Away Raymond. -

P.S. Ringo got 1/2 writing credit for Photograph. -

P.S. Ringo got 1/2 writing credit for Photograph.I'm one of a tiny group of rare blasphemers who don't like certain classics that all Beatles fans love: While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Let It Be, I Want You, Across the Universe... I can't think of any more offhand. Now when I say I don't like, that's putting it a little too strongly. When I listen to While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I can appreciate the music and the lyrics and the singing etc. and it registers on my brain as "yeah that's a pretty good song", but it just doesn't electrify me like the ones that I really love, and in fact I haven't even bothered to listen to it in at least 20 years.
