Kicking for one-year anniversary. Here's hoping Paul returns to Des Moines on the next tour!
Man - 1 year ago tonight - how could I forget that ops:
Exactly.

Greetings again,everyone... The new dvd is great, although the numerous split screens are abit too much for my liking.Did anyone notice Abe wearing the Iowa State cyclone t-shirt on the plane? That was cool...
-
I haven't watched the DVD completely. Glad Abe is wearing a Cyclone shirt. I know in 1990, Paul was given an Iowa State shirt.
-
I just graduated from Iowa State and was excited to see that and not an Iowa shirt. I've have a pic of Paul with the Iowa State shirt that I hung up in my apartment. Also, Iowa State has a Paul and Linda McCartney scholarship that they give out. Just my few cents. Anyting from the Des Moines show surface? What do you all think of the DVD? I think that the Des Moines crowd was awesome and really into it (just like Brian said) and the San Jose crowd were a bunch of rich stiffs. Cheers!!
-
Gotta agree with you about the Des Moines crowd. We rocked the place. Nothing has surfaced except the television coverage and the sound check. Don't ask me for the sound check as I don't know where it is at the moment. I remember the Paul and Linda scholarship when Paul played Ames in 1990 and I was there and on television.

I was doing some spring cleaning today and came across my pics from Des Moines. No concert shots (that was still verboten) but still some memories of a beautifull day. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cederdj/sets/72157629213532852

Gotta say when I opened this forum and saw a Des Moines thread at the top, I freaked out a little thinking I'd missed some huge announcement which is impossible because a Macca gig around here would be pretty much headline news even during NCAA basketball season!! Awesome . . .I was there Not at the drive-in Did you meet up with us at the restaurant downtown before the show? We made the local news (see what I mean about a Paul gig being big news?!)
-
Hi, Seuss! Yeah, I wish we were celebrating an announcement. I still have hope for a Target Field show this summer. I missed out on the meetup but next time it's a date.
-
Sorry you missed us . . .maybe the restaurant interfered w/ the grand arrival . . .I can't remember now! Hopefully our section of the midwest will get a gig or 2 this year . . .fingers crossed!
-
I think the restaurant was about the same time as the big arrival in Des Moines and we decided to do the meet up. Somewhere I have a DVD of the arrival because a friend works for a local television station and he sent me the story and the raw footage.

I just came across this recent article about the concert, with some pics I had not seen before. http://iowaeventscenter.tumblr.com/post/75906769462/paul-mccartneys-stop-at-wells-fargo-arena

Hmm, somehow I missed this.

Thanks for both of those links.

Makes you wonder why Wells Fargo doesn't try HARDER to get Macca back. Instead, Chicago, KC, Minneapolis and now LINCOLN get him instead. They are not trying, in my opinion. I really thought when they built this new arena, we'd be competition for some of these other cities. . .but after that first few years, it's gone steadily downhill w/ a lot of country acts and Taylor Swift every year . . .blech

You're getting the Eagles this year.

That's right. Booking a McCartney show requires a concerted effort, especially for a venue he hasn't played before, such as those in Madison (Kohl Center or Camp Randall). It could support a summer show as well as Missoula can but I assume that no effort has ever been made by the university to attract him here.

I know . . .they've been here twice before and so has Springsteen. We might get acts like that every 3-4 tours but no more often than that (well unless it's Taylor Swift or the Beebs . . .then it's every time!)

Macca played the stadium at Iowa State in 1990 (my first show) . . .so yes, universities can put forth the effort if they want to but apparently many of them don't. We used to get quite a few stadium shows (U2, Rolling Stones, Billy Joel & Elton John) but now it seems they only want to protect the natural grass for football season (perhaps this is Bucky's issue also) - ha ha! Anyway, it just seems that it's a win-win for any city that books Paul . . .the shows generally sell very well, hotels are booked, people eat & drink everywhere . . . I've complained and complained and, of course, I never get a straight answer. I'm sure I'm red-flagged as that crazy woman that wants the McCartney show
-
Like your updated signature, Seuss. Des Moines would have been a much shorter trip for me than Lincoln and fewer nights in a hotel. Since I moved back to Iowa 5 years ago, I've seen a few shows at Wells Fargo, but, for the most part, they don't have anybody I'm interested in. I was at the Paul concert in Ames and saw Billy Joel/Elton John at Jack Trice as well.
-
LOL . . .I've waited a long time to put "soundcheck" in my signature line! I was hoping Des Moines or Ames might get a look this time since it was 2005 when Paul was at Wells Fargo . . .I certainly didn't hold my breath tho! We see shows occasionally at Wells Fargo but it's usually the Eagles or Bon Jovi . . .the rock shows are few and far between to say the least I ended up booking a hotel in Lincoln yesterday . . .not sure we'll actually stay but we have it up until the day before so we can wait to decide.
