Just some Saturday night fun here. You'll have read on Paul's website that he's just been presented with an award for being the UK's most successful album act, with 22 Number 1 albums across his career as a member of The Beatles (15 Number 1s), Wings (2 Number 1s), through his Paul McCartney solo projects (4 Number 1s) and his work with Linda McCartney (1). What if, for his next tour, his setlist was to consist of ONE song from each of his chart topping albums? Which ones would you choose (original UK tracks at time of release - no re-release bonus tracks)? Here are the number 1 albums with my choice in brackets: Please Please Me (I Saw Her Standing There) With the Beatles (All My Loving) Hard Days Night (Things We Said Today) Beatles for Sale ( What You're Doing) Help (Yesterday) Rubber Soul (You Won't See Me) Revolver (For No-one) Sergeant Peppers (Fixing a Hole) White Album (Mother Nature's Son) Abbey Road (Oh Darling) Let It Be (Let It Be) Live at the Hollywood Bowl (She's a Woman) Live at the BBC Vol 1 (Hippy Hippy Shake) Anthology 2 (Got To Get You In To My Life) 1 (Hey Jude) Ram (Monkberry Moon Delight) Band on the Run (Mamunia - cos its the only song from that album he's never done live!) Venus and Mars (Letting Go) McCartney 2 (Coming Up) Tug of War (What's That You're Doing?) Give My Regards to Broad St (No More Lonely Nights) Flowers in the Dirt (We Got Married)

In Scotland, it is common to hear the phrase, "We're all Jock Tamson's Bairns", meaning "we're all the same under the skin" or "we are all God's children".

Cool idea but never would happen - lol. As for songs, would differ with you on a couple. For example, he should do "Take It Away" from "Tug Of War" after all it was top 10 single in the US. The other thing is he could not sing songs like "Oh Darling" or "Monkberry Moon Delight" at this stage of his life.

        Maybe I'm amazed !!

_____________________________________________________ Jock, I like your idea of basing a setlist by "album" and making sure each album was represented with Paul based songs. This way you would get a better balance of Paul's entire career. I would however take it one step further (this is a dream so like Yankeefan said...it would never happen but I agree with you to just have some Saturday night fun). Since Paul's Setlist is so scarce with his underrated Solo career (after 1981 with Here Today) I would have the set list take one song from each solo album as well. Now that would get you the balance the hard core fans have been clamoring for. And there would still be plenty of room for the Beatle signature songs that the majority of audience (primarily Paul Beatle fans) want. A key premise I would make is that just because a Solo album didn't make # 1 in the UK and /or US doesn't mean that there isn't a great solo song to pick from practically each album. For example, while Red Rose Speedway wasn't a #1 in either country, a song like Single Pigeon would be a great song for Paul to do that he hasn't ever done live. Single Pigeon is a great little song that Paul can easily do on the piano and his 74 year old voice can also easily handle it. Here would be a shortened list of songs from Solo albums I would love to see on a setlist: McCartney 1 - Every Night (for vocal reasons I think he should drop MIA) Ram - Heart of the Country Wildlife - Tomorrow (or I am Your Singer as a Linda tribute song) Red Rose Speedway - Single Pigeon Band on the Run - (take you pick but I would stay with the title track and 1985) Venus And Mars - (again take your pick but I would love to hear "Love in Song") At the Speed of Sound - Warm and Beautiful or Silly Love Songs London Town - Don't Let it Take You Down or Cafe on the Left Bank Back to the Egg - take your pick...Getting Closer, Arrow Through Me Mccartney 2 - Coming Up but I would prefer One of These Days Tug of War - Take It Away (Not sure he could sing Wanderlust or the title track today) Press to Play - Good Times Coming or Move Over Busker Flowers in the Dirt - Put It There or This One Off the Ground - Hope of Deliverance (he's already done this so this is easy) Flaming Pie - take your pick but I would love to hear "Young Boy" Driving Rain - About You Chaos - English Garden or Too Much Rain Memory Almost Full - Ever Present Past, That Was Me or Only Mama Knows Run Devil Run - What it Is Electric Arguments - Sing the Changes or Sun is Shining or Dance Till we're high New - Early Days (just to do one he hasn't done before) Anyway, you get the picture. Just one song from each (except Band on the Run that contains several signature songs). By doing this, you would still have room for many Beatle songs that the audience wants to hear. Most importantly, a setlist like this could give much better balance to his entire career. I tried to select songs that Paul could still do today. Sure there are songs that I would love to hear but are no longer realistic. For example, there are songs from Ram I would love to hear but I'm pretty sure he couldn't handle them vocally. That is why my pick from Ram would be something like "Heart of the Country". Anyway, I love the concept of picking 1 song from many of Paul's albums (Beatles, Wings and Solo). As I said, they don't have to be #1's. Paul has good to great Solo songs from every album even if they didn't sell well. Press to Play and Back to the Egg are perfect examples. Poor sales but several good to great songs to choose from. I struggled with Press to Play. There are a couple of songs I would like to hear but not sure he could handle them vocally. I like Sweetest Little Show but it is probably too obscure but i personally like it.

Sorry, should have made it clear that this was just a bit of fun, not a practical suggestion; totally agree that he couldn't tackle either of those two songs today. Interestingly I think he already does at least one song from each of those albums in his current set list anyway, with the exception of Give My Regards to Broad St (if you exclude the Beatles cover versions on it) and Flowers in the Dirt - his two most recent UK number 1 albums. Poor old Flowers in the Dirt!

In Scotland, it is common to hear the phrase, "We're all Jock Tamson's Bairns", meaning "we're all the same under the skin" or "we are all God's children".

For example, he should do "Take It Away" from "Tug Of War" after all it was top 10 single in the US. The other thing is he could not sing songs like "Oh Darling" or "Monkberry Moon Delight" at this stage of his life.

No problem. Feel bad that he never did anything from FITD after the 1989 tour, thought it was very good album and sounded great live.

                      Maybe I'm amazed !!

Cool idea but never would happen - lol. As for songs, would differ with you on a couple. I adore Flowers in the Dirt. There are some fantastic songs on it and he seems to have done so many on that tour. I love Tripping the Live Fantastic and the live renditions of those songs on it are fabulous. I tend to listen to live albums most of the time anyway. I don't know why I do but I seem to be in the minority.
