Remembering George
-
George's spirit is alive and well forever. But yes, I still remember that sad, cold ,cloudy back in 2001 . I remember knowing George had been ill for a couple of years prior, but when he passed on, it hit me hard- harder than I thought it would. I think there should be something for George like "strawberry fields" in NYC for John. A calm, beautiful garden with lots of flowers with Indian music, and ukeleles playing gently from speakers in big lush trees.

The Beatles went from their 'Love Me Do' single to their 'Abbey Road' album in a similar time span. The world and time itself seem to have sped up....or is it just that I'm getting older? Those seven years have certainly slipped away very quickly.

It's hard to believe, but it was seven years ago today ( November 29th, 2001) that we lost George.
Was about to post a tribute to George myself Liz, thank you for doing so. Indeed, seven years ago today... my how the time just flies... each day just goes so fast. I am so glad that George Harrison was one of The Beatles. He was a very special person who will never be forgotten. Once, I was able to be just a few metres from the man... but I wasn't able to shake his hand and thank him for all the wonderful words and music he gave to all of us.

Wow - is that Jeff Lynne in the car as well? Either way, that's pretty cool - thanks for posting the pic. As far as George, yes his brilliance was overshadowed by the Lennon/McCartney writing partnership and I'm just glad his talent has since gained the reputation it deserves. Whether it's from before or after the Beatles split, George has created songs that are as universally recognized around the globe as much as any John or Paul song (something, Here Comes The Sun, My Sweet Lord, etc)...one of my favorites from George is Isn't It A Pity...Great tune.
A couple of friends jamming up in heaven (Not the Eric Clapton part, Billy Preston).... -

As strong as my attraction both musically and physically was for John and Paul, I can't discount my absolute amazement at the incredible depth and beauty of George's songs. I mean John and Paul were cranking them out, but then George would come out with this incredible masterpiece like "SOMETHING" and absolutely knock my socks off!! I remember hearing HERE COMES THE SUN and being just blown away and I can honestly say to this day I feel the same when I hear it. It is one of my very favorite Beatle songs and I play and sing it often. I didn't care for his Indian influenced songs back then, I guess I felt they were sort of anti- Beatle and they turned me off, but it didn't take long before I was falling in love with many of his songs again like MY SWEET LORD, FOR YOU BLUE, etc. etc. No doubt about it, he was one of a kind and is sorely missed....RIP George

Yes Rich, that is Jeff Lynne. One of these days I will transfer the 1987 Rockline interview I have on cassette (they had just finished the interview when I snapped that), and post it. It is pretty wild.

Appreciate that very much Claudia, thanks. I just had a stupid cold like 3 weeks ago and here we are once again. I use to get around much more than these days, but I'm not half the man I used to be anymore. Great piccie of George Fi! From HELP! whilst playing John's guitar during "Another Girl." I love that... thanks for posting it!

Sure Claudia, I've heard it all before. Of course, I am impartial when it comes to their looks and all, but I have heard many comments over the years from as many ladies, as to who they felt was the best looking Beatle. Amazing that George appeared just a few weeks after The Smo Bros aired the videos of "Hey Jude" and "Revolution." I remember like it was yesterday, watching on our old black and white tv set, The Beatles singing those songs. Back then, it was if you'd miss it, tough beans. Because there weren't no home vcr's then. Yes, nellie apple posted a nice photo of George and I thank her for the link to George's official website as I completely forgot to do that earlier.
