I recently re-watched the interview that Bob Costas did with Paul a number of years ago where Paul talks about phoning with John before he died. So glad they got back - maybe not all the way, but I'm glad Paul feels good.

I think in the 70's, John and Paul patched things up fairly quickly over the Beatle differences...but then had to patch things up all over again a second time, supposedly because of Yoko's attempts to keep the two apart

I read that too in a book about John Lennon.

I just happened across this interview clip. John says it all. This is the interview where John explains about how some of his songs he realizes in hindsight were actually about his own self discovery as well as writing about others. Very short, but it says it all. John and Paul were fine.
