AROTR Line Up - This Year: Anyone going?
-
Couldn't find a thread on this, so thought I'd start one. I noticed that four members of Electric Light Orchestra will be there along with Laurence Juber and lots of tribute bands, of course. What I'm interested in hearing is Julia Baird and Louise Harrison give their talks. I need to order Julia's book before going. Louise probably has one, too. And Jon Keats, director of the the Cavern City Tours should have some interesting things to play and say. Anyone else thinking about going this year? Here's the lineup: http://www.arotr.com/site/?page_id=3106

Bruce in the USA? wonder what they are doing there. I don't think they do any Beatles, unless they do Bruce's version of Twist and Shout.

This is the first year since 2010 that I'm not going. Tim Piper will be there doing his John Lennon "Just Imagine" show. Don't miss it!

Yes! For folks going to AROTR, don't miss the "Just Imagine" show! I've seen it a few times in the L.A. area over the last few years, and it's quite the experience!

What songs are included? Are they JUST JL songs, or plus other artists? If other artists, who are they? Nancy, please weigh in here, too if you've seen it.

John Lennon solo/John Lennon songs (either ones he wrote or sang lead) with the Beatles. Songs like "Money," "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Watching the Wheels," "Imagine," "Instant Karma!," "Cold Turkey," and "Come Together," just to name a few.

Right. So no other artists? That was my main question. Thanks for the examples, though.

He does just bits of John/Beatles songs and a few he does the entire song (like Imagine at the keyboards) He uses all the authentic John guitars (Rick, Gibson acoustic/electric, Epiphone)

Would love to see that!

I've seen him do the show 4 times and he also has a slide show going at the same time to illustrate parts of John's life's story. And he puts on different jackets (leather, collarless Beatle jacket, Sgt. Pepper, and white jacket)

Wow! I want to go , but no one to hook up with. It's a bit lonely to just walk around by yourself all day. Odd none of my friends are into the Beatles. Very odd, that.

In 2016 they are switching to the Marriott Hotel, but the festival grounds will be the same (next to the Galt) I probably won't go because in order to see all the shows including the headliners you have to stay at the Marriott. The parking there is $27/day and Wi-Fi is $10/day!! I would have to stay at the EconoLodge like I did in 2011 where the parking is $5/day and the Wi-Fi is free. It is close to the Marriott but further away from the festival site. I don't relish walking alone late at night to the motel. The Galt was so convenient and both parking & Wi-Fi was cheaper than the Marriott. Also, I know I will have to take call or work on Mon. May 30th, so I would have to come home on Sun. the 29th. http://www.eventbrite.com/e/abbey-road-on-the-river-may-2016-tickets-17260527703

I stayed there in 2013 and didn't pay for wi-fi. You can hook up for free in the hotel lobby AND I was also able to get on wi-fi for free in my room. So, I was glad I hadn't paid to do it. Also, I did not pay $27/day for parking, but I think it was something like $20/day for hotel guests. Did not find this out until calling the hotel several times before the event. I did not see the line-up in your link, but I may not have clicked in the right place. Who will be there?

It's too soon for them to release any of the line-up. I got on Marriott's Louisville website and found out the prices I quoted: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/fact-sheet/travel/sdflm-louisville-marriott-downtown/

Right. But, people going to AROTR in 2013 got discounts on various things that were not posted on their website.

I stayed at The Galt in 2013 and got only the discounted room. Had to pay about $20/day for parking and I forget how much for Wi-Fi, but it was not $10/day! Only have until July 30th to decide in order to get the cheaper prices/discount on hotel.

Well, I got wi-fi the whole time at the Marriott and didn't pay, even though their policy is you have to pay for it per day.
-
Well, I'm going! I decided to just drive there on Weds, go to the festival Thurs, Fri and Sat and drive home on Sunday. (I'm on call Monday for Memorial Day) I got the 2-day early bird pass and then will buy a single ticket for Thurs. which will cost $15. I'm staying at the EconoLodge since it is much cheaper, has free Wi-Fi, parking is only $5/day and it has a mini-fridge, hair dryer, etc.

EconoLodge? Why not. Sounds good to me.
