Interesting snippet in interview with James in Sunday Times
-
James says that he knows that John held him as a baby. Now as James was born in 1977 this means one of the following: 1. That John and Paul met after their supposed last meeting and it has not been revealed (1976) 2. Paul gets his 'facts' wrong even with his own family! lol Too much 'tea'! 3. James is making it up to get some publicity I doubt it is number 3.

Interesting...do you have the quote? I'm trying to figure out WHEN it could have happened. Off the top of my head, did the Macs go to NY between 1977-1980? I know they had a stopover in NY in 1980 but it doesn't sound like he saw John...unless he did. I always thought the 1976 "last meeting" was too vague to be considered fact. The story John tells doesn't jive with the dates and then authors tried to say it was the day AFTER SNL somehow..
-
Maybe they did meet after 1976 then. It would make sence really, if Paul had another child and John wanted to meet the baby. I'm sure anyone would want to meet the child of their best friend. Why would they keep it secret though?

If you can't access the link that KO posted above he said: "I know John held me as a baby. Then I have memories of the Dakota building, very white, lots of sunlight pouring in"

Who knows. Don't think that John would be that eager to have seen him though. There was a rumour that they saw each other In Nov 1980 when Paul was in NY and that would tie in with John saying last time they met was 1976 as that interview was in the September. I don't think Paul has spoken about their last meeting, just their last phone call. My hunch is that either Paul has got confused and told James something that was not true (innocently) or that James is just getting later memories of the Dakota mixed up with all sorts of things. I think it is possible that they met between 78 ish period if they did after 76 (rather than Nov 80) as you could imagine John getting confused re. their last meeting, James would have been a baby then and it would not mess with Paul's memories of his last conversation with John - Oct 9th 1980 - his birthday and just as he was about to launch Double Fantasy. Perhaps someone should ask Paul, that is one question I have actually not heard him be asked.

Isn't it also possible that Paul and John met somewhere other than New York or London, during the years from 1978-80?? John apparently did a lot of traveling during his househusband years, and Paul was on the road a lot. Couldn't they have met up in Jamaica or Europe or any number of places? At various recent Beatles events, I've seen pictures of James seated next to Yoko. So I don't think he'd say this if it wasn't true. Because Yoko would be easily able to contradict.

If it is not true I don't think it would be on purpose as James comes across as a really decent honest guy. I hope it is true. Just think his dad may have had too much tea and got confused that's all. John never returned to the UK after 1971. He did visit Germany I believe in the late 70's, as well as Japan and Bermuda and throughout the States. Most of his travels were after 1977 when he got his green card. It would be a great turn up in Beatle folklore if this turns out to be true and one that would make me smile.

good story 'plastic' and VERY interesting. ive always said that paul has never been totally 'definite' on all things 'meeting lennon' in the 1970s. he has always talked VERY generally and ive always had a feeling there could be more than what is generally accepted.

Yes, it is one thing he has been strangely quiet about, always skirting around the subject. I think there may well have been more meetings than accepted. I also think that there are more pictures too, Linda was never without a camera so I will be amazed if she did not snap a few.

If James can remember images of the Dakota I suppose it must have been when he was at least 3 years old, maybe 4. Isn't that about the time we have our first memories? (Of course there are exceptions). So that would've been in 79 or 80.

The Dakota memories may have been 1981 when P&L visited Yoko post Dec 8.

Ooops, yes of course. Didn't think about that.

My first memory I was 18 months old, but most people can't remember any earlier than 2 or 3. James turned 2 in Sept. '79. James may have been told by Paul that John held him as a baby (in late '77 or early 197, but his memories of the Dakota had to be from much later.

I agree, Lazy. I think James may have given something away. Now, I told this to a coworker adn she said, "Who said anything that it was daddy with baby James who met Uncle John?" Good question.

I remember my birth. I remember being a baby. I've described people who lived with us then in great detail to astound my family and prove my memories are correct. (We have no pictures of some of these people like the exchange students who stayed with us). I've met others who also can remember things about being a baby and yes, I was psychologically studied once about it in a University study.

Couldn't have been in Germany since James remembers the Dakota. John and Paul didn't do press releases about all their meetings. Only reason we know about the SNL one is because John mentioned it in an interview years later. For all we know there are others of similar circumstances. I suspect Jan 1980 but legend has it Yoko said no. Fred Seaman (not the most reliable source) wrote alot about this period and while it's possible John met Paul on Fred's day off, I still think a meeting around that period would've come out...especially with hat happened later.

Actually James' memories of the Dakota were more likely from AFTER John was killed. It's been reported that Paul and Linda went to visit with Yoko after John's death and James' memories of the Dakota could be from that period when he was older and would be more likely to have such memories of the building. The moment where John held James could have been in New York, or it could have been any number of other locations around the world since both John and Paul were traveling all throughout the late 70's. Fred Seaman wasn't hired until 1979 so he might not have witnessed any such meeting, since James was born in 1977.
