KRLA BEAT Newspapers From The 60's are Available Free Online
-
This is vintage stuff. KRLA AM in Los Angeles was the local host for outbreaks of Beatlemania, and (then) KRLA DJ Bob Eubanks (of "The Newlywed Game" fame) produced their appearances at The Hollywood Bowl. In its wisdom, KRLA began publishing the KRLA BEAT, a free newsletter and later newspaper detailing the adventures of The Beatles and other current musical phenomena. All but four of the issues are available in the link below. Click the thumbnails of the issues to read them as .pdf files and ZOOM to maybe 270% for legibility as the text is somewhat small and blurry, but readable. Issue One discusses Ringo's pending tonsillectomy, and all issues include the KRLA record charts for the Los Angeles area, as well as coverage of pretty much everyone at the time. For the adventurous, there are also scoped airchecks available here. Unfortunately, the term "scoped aircheck" means that the songs have been edited out, though intros and references still remain. The sound quality of the 60's airchecks is not too good though.
