What I'm doing 3.0 - Second Special Comeback
-
This talk about full band or not and "If i only had to sing I could do it tomorrow"... has made me think of one the strangest ideas ever. Doing a solo a capella concert. Not the first, of the second, but maybe the third or so. If there's a third!. I sometimes hear a capella tracks, vocals only of me and I like it, who knows.
-
I've found some a capella track of mine. This was for the Global Wings 2009 Christmas recording, that never happened in the end... it was when activity faded away there. I was requested to submit a vocal track with no background, no piano, only vocals. So others too, I guess, and in the end it would have been a song sung by many choosing parts of the tracks of everyone. So I just sing the song, only my 2009 vocals. There is some moment (more than one really, lol) when I sing the lyrics wrong so I repeat the line at the end so they could take some of that too. But it never happened, Merry Christmas, BTW.

I remember getting a pm message from Gary (EpiphoneCasino) about that Global Wings Christmas thing, but I couldn't decide what song to do. I wondered if anything ever came of it. Also, instead of a piano interpretation of "Soily," I think something synth-based might work even better.

I think nothing came of it. Well, here's a file that has come out 3 years later. Soily with synthesizers, I don't know, I don't think so, I'm not gonna even do Baba O'Riley with synthesizers. Now I'm on the phase of: A-Printing out the lyrics and read them so I memorize them, and most importantly I kind of sing the song on my mind. B-Learning or playing the songs on piano without singing.

There have been a lot of interesting musings in this thread thats for sure. I've come up with a couple observations: 1) Ollie quite trying to sing opera (unless you REALLY love it) 2) Do you own a guitar? if so it needs to be played 3) absolutely notify me of your first online concert, would love to see this come together. 4) Play Come Together 5) joking on that last one, unless its on guitar. I always want to hear the Ollie original anyway, I'm sure this show will not equal for me what is on record (tracks you have on reverbnation), not unlike Macca. I'd like to hear your newest originals, that should be the show

Hey, hello. I kind of agree with you but remember this is planned to be start of something. This is only the FIRST show. I'm not supposed to be playing that setlist over and over for weeks. That's only stuff people and me are familiar with so the start is easier. Cause I'm not used to this at all, once I get used I can sing my song, or kind of feel free to do weird stuff (even opera, lol). But now I hardly will get a few people to listen to it, I guess. About 1) I should. Right now I only do the last note of It's now or never when I listen to Elvis (well, the way I snooze is operatic too but I don't think that counts,lol...). But lately I'm interested in the whistle register and that's kind of opera too. And I guess I shouldn't either. If I'm tempted is just because opera is LOUDER and that is all... getting out of it is like you're forever holding back your voice.... It's me, I like to explore, if I didn't like it I wouldn't sing like I do, maybe one day I may get into vocal fry, like I do rap/hip hop sometimes. what is vocal fry
2) I own 2 and sometimes there's an acoustic around. One is very good, one of the best Stratos. No guitar the first day, I see it happening in the future, (and maybe even drums). 3) Of course I'll tell you about the concert once the day is decided. 4 and 5) lol, no! setlist is decided, no change unless I find some kind of dead end on rehearsals in some song I've never done before. I'm not Paul McCartney I don't think I'll ever be able of playing Paul beatle melodic basslines while singing... I can do Come Together with a little help of the Beatles and Queen, you know... www.oliversanz.com/cometogetherfatbottomedgirlsmakeabetterworld.mp3 The plan is something like that setlist the first day, then the 2nd or 3rd day doing half of that setlist and half of my songs or so... kind of... The really important thing for me is if the 2nd and 3rd will happen... that's the real point of all this, playing somewhere often, not just one day. BTW Why Paul didn't sing the usual beatle harmonies on Come Together?, just like The Ballad of John and Yoko, for instance, I think it would have been great, and as he wrote the bassline it's kind of a co-written song. -
21st Century Paul:
Not that I'm going to do an Oxford pronunciation or so but I was worried with one word: Believe "don't stop believing""Bill I believe this is killing me"... I always sing "believe", the first "e" like the one in "me"... like way most of the "e"s in English... Like I couldn't change that no matter how I try... ok no need... Paul sings "believe" the way I do in Yesterday, so I found out both pronunciations are OK. Quite strange but good for me.
I have never heard your music and have not read most of this discussion, but I simply must implore you not to use a boxer from Long Island as your source of English pronunciation. Brender and Eddie is also incorrect.

well, no, my source are The Beatles, 4 unemployed guys from Liverpool , like half of the world who has learnt English... like that Russian minister explains in the Red Square DVD. Better is "beder" for instance. Before The Beatles the internation language for communicating was pretty much French.
-
The Beatles pronounce English bedder than Billy Joel any day. I think the Maginot Line did more than The Beatles to hurt French as the international language.

ok, the learning the lyrics part is being easier than I expected, probably because watching the youtube videos with lyrics... As for learning the song on the piano, I almost have learn them. Now the thing is putting all together, singing while playing and all that. It's been a long time since I don't do that... The first day after a long time without doing it's not easy, it seems one can't sing or play, then the next day becomes easier, etc. Kind of like getting in shape, in musical shape.
-
ok, "I've had my share of sand kicked in my face" but well "life is what happens to use to you when you're busy doing other plans"... One problem I've had is the posture while singing at the piano. What's the importance of that? It is important for me... I've started singing (while playing) in a hunched posture, like most play piano when singing, like Paul for instance. But something didn't work... it was not "as easy as...". I've been like 5 years without singing while playing, so all this thing of "getting used". In the end I've discovered that I must be in a similar posture (normal) than when I singing without playing the piano. Maybe it doesn't matter at all and what happens is that I just have get used to sing without playing and it's way easier if I get myself in a sort of similar position... I've never payed much attention to the posture of people singing at the piano, there are all kinds of things, Elton uses to sings very hunched, almost falling over the piano, and Freddie is quite upright... Still not prepared... 2:

I continue with the "rehearsals", though it's more like "relearning". Yesterday I sang sitting but sometimes without playing and I noticed progress on singing. Today I've been singing while playing all of the time, I've notice little improvement on singing but big on playing... I could perform half of the songs right now or so. But well, the longer I'll rehearse the better it will be. Still feels like a slow relearning thing. Because of singing while sitting at the piano and playing. Relearning just singing or just playing is kind of fast for me, but not the "whole package". 2:

Well, this seems like a blog these days... Yesterday I did nothing musically, except the spontaneous Cut Me Some Slack cover.
I did 2 (one minute) vocal takes, one is this and the other was or pretended to be more like Macca's. But I think it was absurd, no-one can't be more Macca than Macca. I was watching the concert so I took some kind of holidays. -
Ok, now next phase it's gonna be playing while singing and also with a mic (I was just singing without a mic these days), I mean all plugged and on like if I was broadcasting. And, well, I must record some Christmas song and I think Cut Me Some Slack doesn't qualify.... I've thought that, whatever Christmas recording I do, It will be recorded as if I was broadcasting live, it will be sort of a rehearsal of the sound, the cam, the plugs, etc.

Well, the posture thing is more important than I thought for singing sitting down. It changes the way you breath. It is much easier to sing standing than sitting, except for singing something that doesn't need much air, I guess. I remember some great vocals of Elvis and Freddie, for instance, while sitting, and I wondered, how could they do it?. They both were sitting straight, not hunching. There seems to be as easy as singing standing then. This is Queen Don't Stop Me Now
This Elvis Unchained Melody I guess I must learn from the masters, as usual... I still don't know if I can do it, have you seen anyone singing Led Zeppeling sitting? "It's beenn a long timmmmmeee", so weird... If not then I must go the Jerry Lee Lewis/Little Richard's way... playing piano while standing... -
Hello! all that about posture when singing sitting has got a LOT easier for me after starting to use the mic. Cause the mic, if placed in the right position, kind of forces me to sing that way, straight. The most likely date of the first concert (of whatever the name of this is, lol) is Sunday January, 6th 2013. But not sure yet, I must preparse still more things, like the cam.

Check out Harry, he sang the hell out of it and didn't have great posture
Pure talent. If you listen to the lyrics, I wonder if that 1st song is about the John/Paul relationship, and their respective approaches to their careers at that time. -

He's doing some effort. When I sing that hunched is like if I pushed for the notes, like if breathing wasn't easy. When I sing straight is like I can't get enough of singing, I oversing and feel like I do just what's on my mind. Stevie Wonder always sings straight when sitted, and he sings just the same that when he sings standing. Stevie's always leaning back for kind of dancing, you know. It's much easier that way, I think... and more fun. Even Freddie hunching is not Freddie
Here Paul is not as hunched as he uses to, and he sings Maybe I'm Amazed much easier, One Hand Clapping, the mic is placed very high -
well, and now I'm gonna record my Christmas thing for this year. It is my favourite Christmas song. I have even cried to it sometimes... well, let's see if all the audio and video thingies work allright
-
My Christmas recording for this year: [Happy Xmas (War Is Over)-me[/size">](
]<span style=) The audio works allright, I haven't adjusted video settings, I must do that in my next soundcheck, lightning, colour and 480 pixels. As for the sound I maybe will change equalizing and reverb, but that doesn't worry me. As for past Chrismas recordings: 2011 We Are The World (over the original) 2010 Santa Claus Is Back In Town/All I Want For Christmas Is You (Impossible duet with Mariah Carey)/Blue Christmas 2009 Feed The World vocals for a recording that never was finished http://oliversanz.com/feedtheworldvocals2009b.mp3
