Paul McCartney has officially become an oldies act.

Last Sunday was my first Macca concert and I would have been very dissapointed if he hadn't played yesterday, let it be, long and winding road, hey Jude etc. I can understand people getting annoyed with same songs being played every tour, but an equally amount of people would be annoyed if he dropped those songs. And he did some unusual songs last week, it's not as if he's is playing the exact list over and over again. TV broadcasts only show the highlights and yes those are always the same songs, because those songs are the well known ones, the songs the general public wants to hear... My point is, whatever he does, there'll always be people who are dissapointed by his choices. The man can't please anyone And if you don't want to hear it... you're not forced to.. just don't go...

I think that a lot of you are missing the point here. Macca, if you have followed his televised appeareances since 2002....he's been playing the same numbers. From the superbowl, to LIve 8, to liverpool 8, to glastenbory, to secret gigs 07. Fans in kiev for instance, are voting and try to convince macca to change his set list. I think that's such a great idea. If we don't let him know that what he is doing is not that cool, he 'll never change his set list. Fans in kievs and all over the world have spoken, and this is the standing as of today for the top requested songs for macca to play: Mrs. Vanderbilt (25%, 4,253 Votes) London Town (21%, 3,448 Votes) Pipes Of Peace (15%, 2,466 Votes) Hope Of Deliverance (9%, 1,540 Votes) All My Loving (9%, 1,480 Votes) My Brave Face (9%, 1,446 Votes) Yesterday (7%, 1,203 Votes) No More Lonely Nights (7%, 1,195 Votes) Your Mother Should Know (6%, 1,079 Votes) Tug Of War (6%, 1,070 Votes) Hey Jude (6%, 991 Votes) Let It Be (6%, 970 Votes) Oh Darling (5%, 910 Votes) Silly Love Songs (5%, 824 Votes) Back In The U.S.S.R. (5%, 766 Votes) Wanderlust (4%, 751 Votes) Obladi Oblada (4%, 660 Votes) All You Need Is Love (3%, 571 Votes) Michelle (3%, 461 Votes) Ballroom Dancing (3%, 445 Votes) Freedom (3%, 421 Votes) Girl (2%, 407 Votes) We Can Work It Out (2%, 399 Votes) Can't Buy Me Love (2%, 336 Votes) We All Stand Together (2%, 302 Votes) Eleanor Rigby (2%, 268 Votes) The Long And Winding Road (1%, 234 Votes) Band On The Run (1%, 216 Votes) Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hears Club Band (1%, 200 Votes) Maxwell?s Silver Hammer (1%, 174 Votes) Penny Lane (1%, 172 Votes) When I?m 64 (1%, 159 Votes) Paperback Writer (1%, 143 Votes) Lady Madonna (1%, 141 Votes) Birthday (1%, 125 Votes) I Saw Her Standing There (1%, 120 Votes) Helter Skelter (1%, 115 Votes) Blackbird (1%, 112 Votes) Live And Let Die (1%, 107 Votes) Drive My Car (1%, 98 Votes) Get Back (1%, 87 Votes) Jet (0%, 71 Votes) Magical Mystery Tour (0%, 28 Votes) source: http://beatlesinmylife.org.ua/competition As you all can see.....fans all over the world are tired of the same old songs: ex: drive my clar, blackbird, lady madonna, c moon, jet, let me roll it etc....
It is an impressing list, I have vote on "Freedom: wich had 2 % votes. Even I don't go to see this show, I do think lots of fans are tiere on hearing for example "Live and Let Die"I have this song hunder times on live cds and dvd's , lately I do skip this song if I do watch a dvd with this song on it, the same goes for the song "Flaming Pie" , Paul should know that there are better gems of him to play live, what do you think about the song "Soley", that is a real rocker, he did played that in the seventies on his Wings Over The World and America tour, it is bit hard-rock.psychadilic song and you need very good ears for hear this song. The above list is from the brodcast forum, I did foudn that link afther hard work on the internet, never mind. People should know that Paul need to changes his set list.

Judging by the new Fireman track and the fact that the new Fireman album will be in promotion during any tour or dates, I now believe we're going to have the change-up we're looking for. It can't have escaped Macca-team that they've been putting out the same tracks live and on DVD again and again and again, surely so I'm hoping now that the new dates will have an upgraded all-new vibe, perhaps with Youth and others in the mix. Wouldn't it be funny if Liverpool was the end of an era, in that respect? Looks like the Kiev crew are leading the pack here! They want their Wings.

I saw him in 1976 (Wings Over America) and I think there was only 5-6 Beatle songs and the crowd loved the show and the Wings songs. Quite a few of us are saying that we will not go because he does not change it up enough to pay at least $100-$200 a ticket to see pretty much the same show. We are the same people who are buying his new records while all those "first" time McCartney concert goers have not bought a new record since maybe BOR. It is not exactly like we are asking McCartney to play some obscure songs, we just would like to see some Beatle songs not repeated again and maybe some more stuff from his career after the Beatles. For example, would it kill any first time concert goer if he replaced "Yesterday" with "Rocky Racoon". How about dropping "Let It Be" and singing "Oh Darling". Instead of "Let Me Roll It" again, maybe do a hit single like "With A Little Luck". See what I mean, he can can do different songs that will please people who have seen him numerous times without disappointing first time concert goers.
-
with a little luck, is a good pop song, Let me roll it, is a sexy rock song. and always gets the crowd going. especially if you are lucky enough to be in the front. With a little luck will have critics laughing at him. It's a good song, but very dated. There are no songs that will ever replace Yesterday or Let it be. They will always be included.
-
nah, it would only be considered an 'oldies act' if he was touring as the beatles, and tickets for the best seats were $50. although i am a bit tired out of many of the songs he's bee doing, i'd wish he'd through in some more unusual songs like uncle albert. no, his voice isn't as good as it use to be, but still not bad for someone nearly pushing 70. any minor screw ups that occur in songs he hasn't sung for years are instantly forgiven. but no matter what he sings, it's always been a great experience to be there live, i never walk out of there in regret and disappointment. sorry to hear it was not an enjoyable experience for everyone, but paul is trying his best.

"C Moon" is not dated or a very lame song which makes the critics laugh. BTW - since when does McCartney listen to critics about setlist. Like most McCartney songs, "With A Little Luck" would sound better live than studio version. I have not been lucky enough to be in front but the people around me did not get excited for "Let Me Roll It" and it has appeared on every tour. I don't know why McCartney could not replace "Yesterday" or "Let It Be". Springsteen does not play "Born To Run" at every concert and that is just as much a signature song for him as "Yesterday" is for McCartney
-
and I know springsteen fans, that are really pissed when he doesn't do Born to Run, and then he snaps at the audience, when they tell him so. I'm not crazy about C-moon, but apparently Paul is, Peace Frog is right, is sad some of you guys are disappointed, it's time to stop putting yourself in that position. cmoon is one song, but it were filled with the songs from these lists, Spin it out, I saw, with a little luck, obladi, oblada, the critics will think he lost his mind. I would love to see that, but I love to see Paul in concert. I can't wait to read this thread next week after the Kiev concert, there will be 300,000 screaming fans, and a handful of people bellyaching here about the fact that he sang Yesterday.
-
I don't think any Macca concert can be without 'Yesterday'. Of the tunes that have been in the live set forever, this is the one that always sounds like he just did the ultimate or 'true' version. And I've got a feeling the Kiev massive are gonna be WITNESSING a very fresh set full of all kinds of new treats.
-
I hope you aren't disappointed. He may add and subtract some songs, but I doubt it will be a whole different show. Why should it be, he's never played there, out of 300,000 how many people there would have seen him before. Only the ones making the trip, and that won't be many. it will be a great show.

Can't agree regarding With A Little luck (from either perspected copied above)...first it's a great song and not dated at all. But at the same time, it's the last song I would want to hear him sing live these days. Mostly when people talk about Paul's vs compared to his younger years, they talk about whether he can still sing in whatever key, how his voice can still scream, blah blah blah....and I do agree that he can still sing great and rock'em out, hit most notes etc. But what's not often mentioned is the slight change of texture to his voice. He can't sing with that same smooth silkiness that he same the first several verses of that song. And when it comes to the portion of the song where he rocks out, the texture of his scream was different then than it is now. He could probably sing it well enough to satisfy most fans who are general PM fans, but maybe not great fans of that song in particular. However, I consider myself to be a 'Withalittleluckologist' ( ) and anything short of how his voice sounded on the fatefull day he recorded that song back during the 77/78 recording sessions would be a great disappointment. To my ears, it's one his most 'fragile' great songs where it seems like 'all the stars aligned' in just the right way for it to sound as great as it does and it would only take a change in nuance to make that song mediocre (or even worse). Incidently, it's also why I hate the edited version of the song. It needs to sound perfect - as in 1978 perfect...standing behind the old sentiment of 'sounding good for a 66/67 y/o man' would not be good enough. Not sure why I feel that way - I don't feel that way about any other song. Although I've never thought about it before, I just had a thought (which I'll have to further consider) that perhaps I consider it just a good song made into a great song by a great performance...Whatever the case, it's one of my favorites that's locked into a time capsile and should probably stay there. And the proof for me is in hearing both cover versions by other bands as well as other performances of the song by Paul (primarily the demo as well as clips of him rehersing the song for the infamous cancelled 1980 Japanese tour). None of that comes close to the original.
-
And btw, before anyone goes off on me - no, I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to see Paul live just because of a particular song choice...or else the last Paul show I would've attended would've been from the 1989/90 tour due to his insistance of including Let Me Roll it every time he plays on stage these days

Like I said before, it is totally understandble for shows like Kiev or Liverpool to fill it with Beatle songs. These are very special shows and once in a lifetime for these people. I am talking about another US tour where he has perfmed in cities like NY or LA numerous times in recent years. I was using "With A Little Luck" as a example because it was a top 10 song and not some obscure B side. The wonderful thing about McCartney is that he has such a rich history, some people wish he would embrace it more in concert on tours. I like to know how people sat thru and enjoyed the Wings Over America tour with only 5-6 Beatle songs. I don't want to hear it was a Wings show, Wings was all about Paul McCartney. Did these audiences fell cheated they did not hear "Let It Be" or "Long And Winding Road"? The audiences somehow enjoyed McCartney's lastest music and were thrilled to see him live. Finally,I have seen Sringsteen several times and never saw him snap at the audience, matter of fact he is one of the greatest showman ever. I know somebody who saw him do a total acoustic show with much of the material new (Tom Joad) and the crowd loved it.

I was just using this song as a example of a top 10 McCartmey/Wings single that would be neat to hear instead of some other things. You are correct that McCartney could probably no longer handle the vocal. The shame is that he did not do these type of songs when he could have done it easily.

my friends were at an all Tom Joad show, and the crowd was very bored. It's the luck of the audience you get. You never know. I personally don't like springsteen live, he sings with that vein popping out of his head, it's not easy on the eyes. I rather listen to a cd of him. I live in Jersey where he is king, and that show did not go over big here and with the diehard fans that surround me. there is a whole different feel to a Paul McCartney show, it's like he's playing to you, they always have an intimate feel to me. Rich, I loved Let me roll it from the first time I heard it on Band on the Run, for me I never tire of it. It's truely my favorite at the shows. It's awesome live.

I have seen him in 1976,1989,1993, 2002 and 2004, think I have my years correct. I am fortunate to have seen him at the pinnacle of his touring career. I just can't see spending $250 for one ticket to see for the most part the same show. If I want that, I can listen to my live CD's and DVD's. BTW - I received a bootleg of the Wings 1979 show in Glasgow and it was great, only a couple of Beatle songs and the crowd still loved the show.

Understood, to each their own. I do give Springsteen credit for trying something different.

1979, the tickets were cheap & wings were still a group. You didn't have to justify songs as much at 30 dollars a seat. At 250 plus, any group/artist better sing what the audience dictates. That is something you can't get around. Sorry, I disagree, with each concert, I have a better time. Can his vocals handle certain songs, maybe maybe not. At the Highline he sang House of Wax (difficult song) and it sounded incredible. I think he's still at his peak, but that's just me. Worth every penny I spent on the several shows I went to last tour and plan to do the same if he comes back and tours again. If we are lucky he will tour. I've been to every tour since 76 as well, big arenas and small gigs.
