silly loves songs, was a duet with Linda, doubtful that will happen. He's done I've just seen a face in concert, Old Siam Sir and I had enough will be bathroom breaks.
I don't see why he couldn't do "Silly Love Songs". Linda's counter melody ("Ah, he gave me more...") is basically a repeat of the second verse and is not really essential to the song IMO. I agree with you about "Old Siam Sir" and "I've Had Enough" - they weren't even hits when they were released, and by now they're about as obscure as some of his B-sides.
I could be wrong but did not think "C Moon" was a big hit, thought it was a B side and he plays it quite often.
"C Moon" was the B-side to "Hi Hi Hi" which was banned so "C Moon" was the more popular song of the two.
It became the 'A' side - but it didn't become the more popular of the two...big difference there

Let's see Springsteen decides what he want to play before each show, it's for him. Paul goes out there to please the audience. Is that a bad thing. If you heard it before, than fine, save your money on Paul and go see Springsteen. Where his shows are new, somethings good, sometimes not so good. Paul played a nice selection of new songs at the small venues, I was at Highline and it was great. A big arena is a different story. I have nothing against change, I wouldn't care either way, add a few songs, drop a few songs, keep it the way it is. I'm going.

As far as I'm concerned, Paul should play wall to wall Beatles at a gig. They were the songs that defined him.
I have to watch what i say as i've had my wrists slapped and told off for being abusive in another thread! Me! i'm not But in this thread re the quote above - Paul has had a 46 year recording career. Of those 46 years only 8 years were with the Beatles, the other38 are wings/solo. It breaks my heart to see posts like the one i quoted.. unfortunately it seems Paul and a section of his audience also think all there is to him is The Beatles As great as they were, the rest is as great too.. some better

'' I'm not excepting it, and if it's just more of the same on the upcoming tour I'm not spending my money to see it either!'' GREAT. All the more tickets for us TRUE & LOYAL FANS that don't rip into him at every oppourtunity
-
Paul is great, I love his entire career. He can sing in concert whatever he wants, whatever he feels the audience wants. I'm there.

well, i'm not ripping into Paul and will still go see him - i love his music to bits (and him too!), but i do think "i love paul" has made a good point re the years etc. If Paul will play what he wants to play, it's fine I do worry sometimes though (esp with what he says in recent interviews) that he plays what he THINKS the 'casual' fan wants to hear, he caters for the fans who owns maybe a couple of beatles album or the "1" album and thinks "ooh the legend that is Sir Paul is in town, i'll go see him" and get bored in the solo stuff Instead of remembering the fans who actually buy his solo music too. But i will go see him, cos i loooooooooooooooooove him and his music

Nope. It's not bad at all. Just different. I don't think folks should compare Paul to Springsteen or to anybody else. and I am going to see Paul in concert even if all he does is read names out of the phonebook and not sing a single note. But there's nothing wrong with having a wish-list of songs that we would like to hear. So I do wish he would reach back a bit into his non-Beatles catalog. What a great way to remind some of those "casual" fans how terrific some of his solo music really is.

Shouldn't that have been 'EASILY PLEASED & INFATUATED FANS' ? Meanwhile, back in the real world, the true and loyal fans will continue to take the trouble to listen to and evaluate Paul's work and make, where neccesary, relevant suggestions as to ways that work can be better presented and improved upon, both in recordings and on stage.

Think I am a bit too old now & past the infatuated stage actually. roll

A concert has one purpose to please the general audience. Paul knows this, and he is going to put on the show that he feels suits the audience. That is all the relevance any person paying 250 plus wants. They want to dance, sing, cry, laugh, the don't want to say, what the hell is that song. artistry, relevance etc are for the studio. Sue, I like your style.

You know what guys, I am getting seriously bored of everyone having a pick at what Paul plays. I don't agree that Paul should only play Beatles songs at a gig. Like Ilovepaul said, Paul has spent more years as a solo artist than he did with the Beatles. Personally i would love to hear more Wings stuff plus a selection of songs from his past solo albums that aren't Wings. A selection of some hits mixed with some less known songs would make an ideal concert. But then what is ideal? It's a never-ending debate as far as i am concerned. But then put it this way, a concert without Let it be or Hey Jude wouldn't be the same as it is a song that everyone loves to sing along to . I mean that is half the fun of going to see Paul. Imagine Robbie Williams doing a concert without doing Angels. Just wouldn't be quite the same. But at the end of the day, it's up to Paul what he plays and I guess he knows best.

I guess I am different than most because I enjoy hearing songs from a artist that I had never heard before seeing the show. Granted, you want your share of hit songs to be played but a good mixture works for me. I saw Elton John several years ago and he opened with 7 songs from his latest record (Peachtree). I had not heard any of the songs but listened and really got into the songs because they were very good. It also made me run out and buy the record. I also believe you can entertain at a concert but still show artistry and relevance, they don't have to be just for the studio.

I love hearing new things from Paul, however the majority is coming for the well loved songs. Artistry is for the specials, like the Abbey Road Sessions. 30,000 people don't give a crap about inovation. I would be pissed off if Elton didn't do Your Song, it's a gem and a song I never get tired of. Any other artist other than Paul, I wouldn't want to hear anything I didn't know. It takes the wind out of your sails. You are singing, having a grand ole time, and than boom, you are nowhere. Yankee, you are a good fan, you enjoy the new songs, it seems from all artists, but you are in the minority. That is the gist of this whole argument.

About Jorke3344's comments on page 1 of this thread... I'm glad you're at least honest on your review of Paul's recent concert. I can't say that I agree with all of it, but still, I'd rather read that than someone that keeps going on and on about how perfect every song was. However, there's nothing that would keep me from seeing Paul no matter what he plays and talks about in his shows. There's just this magic about seeing him.

I agree in general. However, there are some folks that are taking it almost to a personal level by insinuating Paul is something less of an artists because of his choice of set lists. While I certainly have my 'laundry list' of songs I wish he'd play, this in no way insinuates that I enjoy Paul's shows any less if he doesn't play exactly what I want him to play. And the earlier point that Paul is trying to satisfy a general fan group when playing live is exactly correct. I'm sure he understands that there fans of all his various types of music - but how can he put on a fluid, exciting show if he has to split up Live and Let Die and Let It Be with Bogey Music??? Just a thought

I guess you are right but being in the minority is not always a bad thing - Ha Ha.

Crosby Stills Nash Paul might be older but these dudes are old. One got someone else liver or kidney or some other body part. They didn't do there hits but there new stuff. It was one of the first time I seen them that the audiences wasn't rocking. Playing tunes no one heard of can be a buzz kill for an audiences. Yes it was bite ass cold. Like 40 with wind. Note their attire They did do Marikesh express and that got the crowd rocking Paul wouldn't want be guilty of being a buzz kill

I saw David Bowe back during his Glass Spider tour and felt the same way - 'where are the hits?'...It really kinda sucked. Although I have to admit that the only reason I had interest (aside from the fact that my girlfriend at the time wanted to go) was because a guitarist who appeared on Paul's Press To Play album was part of David Bowie's band (Carlos Alomar)...

When you go to a concert you expect to hear them sing & play a lot of their old hits. Not soem obscure stuff. Yes its nice in moderation but Pauls is a Beatle so we all want their stuff particularly a huge song like Hey Jude & Yesterday. It wouldn't be Paul without him doing Yesterday. I so envy those guys in Kiev this weekend hearing all those wonderful songs that we just take for granted but clearly are not appreciated by some !

I notice that when the discussion of McCartney's setlist comes up, some people always jump to the conclusion that no ones ever heard the music, or it's obscure and unknown?? NEWS FLASH, WINGS WERE THE BIGGEST SELLING GROUP OF THE FREAKING 70S, THEIR MUSIC IS KNOWN BY PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD, THOSE SINGLES AND ALBUMS SOLD BY THE FREAKING MILLIONS!! Now please excuse me for yelling, but I'm sick and tired of reading these comments about people not knowing McCartneys Wings period, that is just total bull! A whole generation of people came up listening to Wings and McCartney's solo music, so please stop using the excuse that people in the audience wouldn't know this song or that song, because it's just not true! Besides no one is suggesting McCartney get on stage and play some deep buried album track, but if he performed songs like... Juniors Farm Getting Closer Take It Away 1985 No More Lonely Nights This Never happened Before I've had Enough Rockestra Theme The Mess Big Barn Bed Listen To What The Man Said Silly Love Songs No one would get up and walk out, and no one would be scratching their head. Many of these songs have been performed at least one time before, and the others come from very successful albums. So once again stop with this myth that people in the audience wouldn't know or like this fantastic music!! Paul McCartney should be performing all of this great material!
