Where was Paul's voice today when Ohio swat teams went on a big game hunting party and killed 12 Bangle Tiger(1400 in the world). They were shot to death along with 50 other animals when their owner let them loose than killed himself. Why they couldn't tranquilize these poor animals. There still 3 animals loose.. Where Peta where's anyone?. http://technorati.com/women/article/loose-wild-animals-gunned-down-in/

I understand that they were forced to do this and the owners were the one guilty. Its just so sad the poor animals were let loose to be target practice. Too bad the Gov choose not to sign the bill sitting on his desk making it illegal for ownership of exotic animals. Half the US its illegal to own these kind of animals let alone sell them and trade them like Ohio does. 14 bangle tiger destroyed.

That`s a terrible thing, but I`m not sure why you had to mention Paul. He almost certainly knows nothing about it.

I just found out about this tragedy, in Ohio, I think Why didn't the police use tranquillizer stun darts instead of bullets? Or whatever you call those. Was everybody just too terrified of the lions, tigers, grizzly bears, etc. roaming free in the rural area there? The first impulse was obviously shoot to kill, and they did. Then afterwards some said, "yes, that was too bad, very tragic, but it had to be done." I'm referring to the quite recent incident in which the owner of a wild kingdom zoo or such set the creatures free and then shot himself to death.

Sadly there seems to be a misunderstanding about tranquiliser stun guns and their availability and efficacy in this situation. They are designed for vetinerary use in controlled circumstances - mainly for sedating animals in captivity prior to medical examination or prior to a neccessary change of enviroment. They are owned by experienced animal veterinary specialists, they are not held in quantity in police armouries for issue in situations like this, and police officers would not be trained in their use - as the tranquiliser dose carried by each dart would vary according to the animal being tranquilised. Unlike "stun guns" as seen in sci-fi movies, the effect of the dart is by no means instantaneous taking several minutes to act. So in a face to face situation - confronted by a tiger as officers were in this scenario - not only would the officer remain vulnerable to attack but the animal would be enraged by the pain of the tranquiliser dart striking. I see from the report earlier one veterinarian was almost attacked trying to use a tranquiliser gun and had to be saved by the police with their own firearms. Remember all these animals were as distressed by their situation as the population placed in their path by the actions of the sanctuary owner in releasing them, making their reactions increasingly defensive - i.e. more likely to fight their way out of danger by attacking. Sadly this was not one lone animal escaped from a zoo, which might have been controllable with professional tracking and the efficient use of a tranquiliser gun at the most appropriate moment - this was a mass release on an unprecendented scale. I see most animal rights groups concur the authorities had little option but to proceed as they did and have turned their attention to campaigning to change the animal welfare regulations in Ohio that created this situation in the first place. Has anyone speculated/commented yet on why Terry Thompson took the course he did? I see he had a long history of confrontation with the law only recently being released from prison, but this action was an extreme act of defiance before taking his own life. It's a sad paradox that the authorities had the laws to imprison Thompson for the possession of certain types of firearms yet had no appropriate legislation to prevent him gathering (and subsequently releasing) this potentially lethal armoury of dangerous animals. A truly sad situation throughout. Martin

I don't see why they had to do any of this nonsense. Trigger happy cops. I could have captured the gray wolf myself. I have been an advocate for saving the Gray Wolves of N. America for years now, and no one seems to care about them but me around this board. As much as Paul respects, and certainly Linda loved, the Native American Culture, I would have thought he would lend them a voice as well. (please Paul.) Anyway, I feel badly for the animals in this situation.

It was made out of frustration. My perfect world just got a reality check. I though there would of been a outrage by anyone who was putting there supports behind saving Tiger's causes, even after the fact but the reality is the owner was a selfish human who used these innocent, beautiful animals to try and get revenge on society. Really sad. But on a cheerier note. Tiger is viagra in Sinhala. Do you think Paul knew that?
