A Big Thank You From PaulMcCartney.com

Did the batch of emails that went to spam saying that various people from this site were now my "friends" really come from this site or has the site been hacked?
I had the same and have asked MPL directly about these. I'll feedback in reply to this post as soon as I get feedback. Martin

It's a huge let down to see that there obviously are some security issues on paulmccartney.com. I received two false friend requests from "admin@elgg.dev" from two people from this board (their user names were in the mails) whom I asked and they say they didn't send me anything. I have no idea what the links in those mails contain and how my email address could be used for that. If pm.com at least would send some explanation. I know every site can get hacked or something but at least inform us about it. And don't think I'm going to sign up for anything again in the near future!

One of my FB friends on the forum received a PM.com friend request from a banned member. : Hopefully we'll get some information if our accounts have been hacked? Hopefully something sooner than the "Oh, we've deleted your premium accounts and all of the friends' posts from that premium page are gone forever. Ha ha" message.

Is it just Premium Members, excuse me, EX-Premium Members, who are getting these? Because if so, wouldn't that just be the icing on the ripoff cake? : "Here, we've canceled your memberships without telling you and are keeping your money, but here's your next exclusive goodie to say how sorry we are: spam for your inbox!"

Nah, I got a couple of them and I was never a premuim member.

I got them from people I talked with regularly on this board including one banned member. and only from people I talk to all the time here....hmmm....

Thank you and the end of the email was .elgg.dev. One was from you oobu24, along with many others. Apparently the site was hacked. Really makes me feel secure. Another from martinput, AGrieg, etc.

One was from walliebaby.

Hi All. I have heard back on this now. The e-mails were triggered unintentionally by development work on the main site. There is no suggestion that the site's security has been compromised (i.e. hacked). From the nature of the e-mails sent I think it reasonable to assume they are working on the commitment given some time ago to restore the social networking aspect of the main site - profiles, walls, private messaging etc Certainly the e-mails I received related to people I formerly had as Friends on the main site before it was reconfigured. As any new development has yet to appear on the main site I rather think the e-mails were triggered by a software process rather the actions of those people named in the e-mails. I look forward to seeing the real deal when the development work is completed. Martin

Good to know--the only folks I'd heard from that had gotten them had been in the Premium Club, so I wasn't sure.

Thank you, Martin. All the ones I received were from "friends" on the old site.

I feel left out! I didn't get any of these emails!

I didn't either & that's why I thought it also had something to do with FB...but you're on FB right Nancy? I am not.
-
Well, Oobu, according to the e-mails I got, you friended me. So you were at least included. Glad to know it was something as simple as that. With what I've been through, I was afraid me and my friends were going to be victimized again

I'm not on FB either. My band is, but I don't maintain the page at all. Therefore, I think you're right.

I had over 100 + friends on the site. What was odd was the e-mails came only from the handful of people that I talked to reguarly here. that made me paranoid.
-
I didn't talk to a lot of people on that site so I have no idea if that was the case with the emails I received.
