Benefit gig for Henry McCullough - "Henry's Heroes"
-
For those of you in the UK (or anyone who can get there ;)) on 17th March, there's a benefit gig for former Wings guitarist Henry McCullough happening at the Half Moon in Putney. Henry had a heart attack a few years ago and suffered brain damage. I think he needs constant care. There are going to be some great performers there, including Nick Lowe, Graham Parker, Paul Carrack, Suggs from Madness. If I didn't have another trip already booked for that same week, I would hop a flight and be there! It's going to be a great gig for a great cause: http://www.geronimo-inns.co.uk/london-the-half-moon/events/12245

This is an uplifting post. Nice to see industry dudes doing this for the man. Class. If it were possible I'd be there. I will be there in spirit.

Glad to hear of the benefit concert for Henry and he is still hanging in there! I wish I could go. And it is on Saint Patrick's Day too. I will be there in spirit and hope it raises alot of money for him for his healthcare. Keeping Henry and his family and friends in my thoughts and prayers.

Hoping it raises more funds and much love to henry.

Was lucky enough to meet Henry after one of his gigs at the Bein Inn in Perthshire a few years ago. He was a really charming, funny guy and he was happy to sign a picture of himself in my Wingspan book. He did like his ciggies though...

Bumping for Henry.

I was wondering if there is a legitimate fund set up for Henry's cause? In case some people who care that cannot attend the benefit could donate for his care securely? Thanks.

Looks like there is a UK account set up for donations. See the post dated February 21 on this public Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HenryLMcCullough I am not on Facebook so I cannot post any questions to the page to get any further details. Here is the Facebook page for the Henry's Heroes event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1406455909652076/ The good news is that the gig is sold out, so it will be a fine night and some money raised for Henry.

Let's hope he still have a meaningful life, if he has a reduced function and can't play the guitar anymore. There is no guarantee to get old, and getting old is risky business. Nobody gets out of this world alive, as they say. For me it's the guitar solo on "My Love" which has made the most impression, although he has done much else good too, with Joe Cocker for example.

Well, the gig for Henry was last night; I read a recap on a private list so can't post it verbatim, but can mention some highlights: Was a full house in the Half Moon with about 220 people...there was an auction of some items including a Beatles Mono vinyl box set signed by Paul which went for over 1,000 pounds ....great musical performances by Nick Lowe and Paul Carrack and Suggs from Madness and Graham Parker, among others...apparently the show was filmed and there is also a documentary about Henry being made.

So happy to hear it went so well!
