I just love this band's sound and lead singer....don't think you would classify them as country perse', but they just have sort of a Country feel, and certainly this video is pure County....hope you like it too... LAREDO - Band of Horses

snowbird the best country song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is a beautiful tune! ...I take it you're referring to the one sang by Anne Murray. I saw her sing that in person here in Vermont...had front row seats in an outdoor venue...she had the most INCREDIBLY beautiful blues eyes as I remember!!

I'm partial to Elvis' version, but it is a gorgeous song.

Doesn't get much cooler than this:

this has been playing in my head lately: Johnny Cash - Ring Of Fire

Apparently new songs by Hank Williams have been discovered and Bob Dylan and other greats have recorded them in a cd? Saw that in a facebook news item post. Seems there should be more of an uproar and hullabaloo transpiring about that, doesn't it?
-
The cd is called "From the Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams" I think, and consists of "incomplete" Hank songs he left unfinished, sung by the likes of Bob Dylan, Jack White and other greats (who should all be more than capable of "completing" the songs or at least making them sound "complete"). This album ought to be pretty doggone good...Hank Williams being no slouch at songwriting

September 17 would have been Hank Williams Sr. 88th Birthday: (Hiram King Williams) So for Hank: Lost Highway
-
It's Leonard Cohen's birthday too this week, and I was surprised when someone on facebook commented that Cohen thought Hank Williams a superior bard (to Cohen), better at songwriting than he. I was also suprised recently to read that some consider George Jones to have the best male singing voice in all of the music biz. He does have a pretty awesome set of pipes, come to think of it, but I wouldn't deem him the absolute tops. For one thing he sounds so Southern and "country" so he might better be placed solely in that category. George Jones sings with so much emotion that I'd have to grant him a perfect score there.
-
George Jones performed at the Myrtle Beach S.C. Alabama Theater recently, I read. So he is still alive and performing. I thought he had passed away

Lady Antebellum performed in concert last night at the Florence, S.C. Civic Center. They've got a very pleasing sound, would have liked to go but found out about it too late. Florence is a small venue, was surprised they played there. I thought they'd be too "big." It was nice that they did. LeAnn Rimes will give a concert at Crowne Colisseum in Fayetteville, N.C. this December. I heard new songs by Kenny Chesney and George Strait on the car radio and thought they're real good. But after that some country played that I disliked. There's not that much "new" country music I really like... I got Jeff Bridges's new album "Jeff Bridges" and it's very good, very well done. Has a country rock and country folk flavor
-
I like Kenny Chesney's voice on songs of his I've heard, so I do like some male deep voice vocals (but not many). I don't like Scotty McCrerry's at all. I seldom listen to country anyway, but more so now since actually living out in the countryside for going on two years, feel a bit more inclined towards it. A lot of "new country" is just too corny and horny (LOL) but some of it's pretty good such as Lady Antebellum's pleasing sound
