do any of you talented peeps in here wish to collaborate on a song entry to macca's contest with me? i had to muster some chutzpah to ask that. :
Okey, no problem for melody. I have written a lot so I've got like 200 no-one knows, and if not I can write some new. For me it's very weird to write lyrics about this... Maybe the easiest thing for me is to twist some lyrics of some song I already finished (like Elton did with Candle in the Wind..., you know...) I don't know what kind of song do they want, we can go deep, and sort of preachy : like "and you know that you are what you eat and you know you can not escape from it as you see the mistake that you did same old one, you just ate too much meat" (and I can hear Bob Dylan, repeating "Too much meeeat"..) well, we have a start and that's the hardest part of every song... we can go funny like Paul "meet free monday's just begun everybody's having fun the whole world's stomach clean good for you and good for me" (and this sounds like a Christmas song...) now add, change, critize...

Little Karaoke Report You know I've been kind of fantasizing of doing My Way in the Sex Pistols style in a karaoke... My way-Sex Pistols
Yesterday I went to a new karaoke. Everybody was singing sad ballads over and over... I haven't planned to sing, but well it was so boring that I asked my friends what would they like to hear. "No ballads, fast old-time rock and roll, Elvis or so"... ok, so I did Hound Dog Then I checked the 10000 song lists and there was only one Sex Pistols song "My Way" . so I asked for the song... I started singing "normal" but laughing ("now the end is near" and me laughing... :lol... and then I switched to "Pistols" mode, you know... Sometimes I felt it was too much so I returned to normal and then returned to Pistols, etc. I like it a lot, but hey, it felt strange for me when some in the audience left the place while I was singing After doing the Elvis thing they didn't expect that AT ALL, but that was the fun... at the end I did a "normal" Bohemian Rhapsody. Karaoke is not a real show, but well, I'm getting used to sing for people one way or another, and to get loose and feel free on the stage, to feel at home, doing just the same things, without shame... Also I'm knowing people related to music, that's great. I didn't know but the day MJ died I sang with someone that's famous here. Only that he makes disco hits and I didn't know who he was all this time till yesterday... I told him to join the We are the world and he did. Maybe you know his most famous song, I don't know... here is very popular at discos Dani Mata-Lamento Boliviano PS: I didn't sang the Pistols lyrics of My Way. I didn't know they were different from the normals one until I was there reading "And F***, a prick..." and I thought that was too much for that place... -
wow, oliver...you really would???? i've already got a lot of the lyrics...it would be a matter of you contributing to the lyrics if you want, but mainly coming up with a tune to the thing and playing the instruments and making the audio thing. looks like you've had a whole lot of experience i used to be able to come up with melodies until john lennon was killed. then the ability mysteriously deserted me (from the trauma, obviously). but i can still come up with words. i posted them here last night and hope they weren't 'stolen' maybe hardly anyone read them. it was the middle of the night. suddenly the beginnings of some song lyrics for this popped into my head. i can sing pretty well and maybe we could somehow sing it together... i'd get a big kick out of just the process of coming up with one and submitting it to Paul Mccartney's song contest Paul mccartney's, no less...oh wow

well, this is the kind of thing that everyone wants to do at first... then you think of excuses for not doing it... why not? I didn't look this as a "Paul McCartney's song contest", now that sounds big... just a "Meet Free Monday's song contest"... Well, it's not easy to do some song when we are half the world away apart... but that doesn't mean it can't be done. I would like to know if there's any guidelines about the song. Like maximum duration and all these things before starting to think of one. But once the rules are clear if we don't do it is just because we don't want to do it.
-
thanx oliver. i've already got a lot of the lyrics ( kinda deep, preachy a bit, also funny a bit, kind of flowery and over the top in parts but that should go with your lovely spanish desi arnaz type accent while singing the english words) did you get my private message? yeah let's do it oliver...for one thing, you've got so many original melodies already, and my words could be made to fit one of them, probably i will get a huge rush just out of entering something...don't have to win to get a big thrill

If you'd said John wrote this one, I wouldn't've questioned ya' at all. Very good song. I wish the singer had a lighter dynamic to his voice -- it would've been even MORE effective.

He said that he had done 20 takes until he was burnt...and then the next morning fresh...he came up with this one.........I thought it was an original john song at first as well! ...It's amazing!

It's pretty much a slam-dunk, in my book! I've always wondered what would result if I ever consciously wrote a McCartney-style pop song or power ballad. Of course, Paul is no one-trick-pony and capably writes for numerous musical sub-genres, but... ...as far as the signature McCartney ''stamp'' ("Only love Remains," "Maybe I'm Amazed," "Listen To What The Man Said," "Blackbird," "Jenny Wren" and on n' on)... ...nobody does it like he can. Supposedly, Tears For Fears' comeback album a few years ago was the McCartney ''companion'' to their Lennon-inspired The Seeds Of Love album in '89.
-
with a little more upbeat and optimistic and strong and hopeful spirit about it...it would be perfect
-
i fell asleep last nite before i could send it to you, oliver...fixing to send it rite now
-
oliver, please let me know if you received my p.m. with the lyrics--thanks (when you get a chance) i sent it early saturday

I don't have to wonder, as you may guess. Songwriting "impersonation" is just like singing "impersonation", you just get into the composer's personality to write something. The closest composer I know in style to Macca is Mozart. Those beautiful pure melodies and that happy uplifting stuff. Sometimes Billy Joel, but Paul is very unique...

I've got Susy's lyrics. Hope we both can make it all the way and do something good. Though she writes more the way she sees it, and I write more the way I see it, so it's hard that something could match in the same song... we don't have any guidelines yet. If the Meat Free Monday thing is something for the UK, I guess the contest will be only for UK artists... besides that, I think I know what they want A song for commercials, 20 seconds you know, no-use for a Bohemian Rhapsody/Maybe I'm Amazed song but something catchier and simplier... My experience when you start projects like this with people is that they withdrawn as the thing advances... till there's no-one. Some years ago there were so many recording artists here in the board that we were going to make a CD out of all them. Everyone joined but as the thing was closer to a release, people lost interest and it was never done, the only musician still in the board it's me. I still got the never released CD at home, and I can still remember some songs, they're great. I learnt that if you want to make something you can't wait for others to join or depend on them to finish something like that. So I'm gonna face it alone, but if I can put anything of others into it, then it's OK. But I can't count on it, you know...

i won't lose interest and withdraw, oliver as previously noted, it will be a big thrill just to submit something, knowing it's macca's competition and for a very worthy cause, and all that jazz
