Halifax, NS - Halifax Common - 11th July 2009 - ARCHIVE

blondevixen:
Hi All - I am currently living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Needless to say, VERY excited about recent news that Paul will be performing here in July. A few points for those looking to join us for the concert: -The Web site selling tickets (Ticket Atlantic) has been known to crash when flooded with traffic - I believe the site crashed during the beginning of the sale of Elton John tickets, and MANY people, as a direct result, were unable to secure tickets. The main thing to remember is to NOT refresh your page, etc. once you have proceeded to the checkout. You may be "waiting" a little while for it to process. Hopefully they have worked the kinks out for this sale, but who knows. I'm debating doing a phone-in order, or just doing the old fashioned line camp-out. -The hotel closest to the concert site is the Holiday Inn on the corner of Quinpool & Robie. This is across the street from the concert site. I would advise booking rooms NOW, as hotels in the city book-up VERY quickly, even for smaller events. If you want contact information, just let me know. Or you can just Google-it like the rest of the world! -If you are unable to secure tickts, there are some reliable local sites you can find tickets. Let me know if you don't get any, and I'll let you know.
PLEASE! Help to a mexican fan attending the concert! -How far is the Airport and Bus station from the concert? -More cheap hotels near the concert? -any additional info will be great! thanks

The airport is located about a 35 minute drive from the concert site. The public bus system does not travel out to the airport but you can use this service to take you to several major hotels http://www.airporter.biz/ DCD Ltd.

There is no Subway system. The concert will take place at the Halifax Common which is an open air sports and recreation venue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halifax_Commons DCD Ltd.

Halifax does not have a subway system - public transit is bus only. Taxi cabs are available, but can be expensive, depending on where you're travelling to/from. Check out the pages in the beginning of this forum - there are great links and details about the concert location! Good luck and be sure to let me know if you need anything else!

Anyone know what VIP is supposed to be? (besides closer I imagine) That's a steep difference in price.

They haven't said, yet. A couple of pages back there is a link to a layout for a similiar set up (the KISS concert the following weekend). The VIP area is highlighted - and in my opinion, hardly worth the difference in ticket price. The VIPs, from my understanding (though the detailed VIP information for Paul's concert has yet to be released), is: - Sectioned-off area slightly closer to the left of the stage, but still minimal front-row/stage accessibility. - Bleachers (first come, first serve). - Own concession area. - Own port-a-potty area. Keep in mind, this is shared with 6000 people.

Tall Ships are here in NYC right now... I definitely want to go to Nova Scotia. I've always wanted to go and have never been there either. Who's going from the New York area? Anybody? There were Very few from the states who went to Quebec. There's ferries from Portland to Yarmouth. It's the most direct.

Yarmouth is definitely not a hop skip and a jump to Halifax. A long and boring car/bus ride awaits those who get here that way. Actually, you can fly from NY to Halifax quicker than that car ride. DCD Ltd.

I'm not a big fan of flying... I'd always wanted to actually take Amtrak to Portland, Ferry to Yarmouth and then bike even to Cape Breton. I'm told that island is fantastic. I'm eager to add to the economy of the area (one of Macca's purposes, no doubt)

If you have the time, it's a beautiful trip to make! If you're heading to Cape Breton and have LOTS of time, you should hop on the ferry to Newfoundland & Labrador -if you're into hiking and the outdoors! Gros Morne National Park is located on the West Coast of the island, just a few hours drive, and it's breathtakingly beautiful and completely worth the drive. I'm completely bias, being from the (large!) island myself! Nova Scotia is a beautiful province, too. I have been living here in Halifax for eight years. I'm still discovering the province myself!

So are we sure there are tickets and they're not free? Hard to imagine that the tickets would be reserved seating. I hope to hear before they go onsale.

The Ticket Atlantic web-site is now updated to include prices now: http://www.ticketatlantic.com/en/home/concerts/paulmccartney.aspx
Date Saturday July 11, 2009 Location Halifax Commons concert site On sale starting Friday May 29, 2009 at 9am Ticket Prices General Admission (Early Bird): $136 each (price will increase at a later date TBD) Reserved VIP Seating (limited amount): $316 each Above prices include tax and service charge. Tickets also subject to an additional $4 per order fee if ordered on-line
Note that this price is higher than many earlier newspaper quotes published in this thread. Odd that they believe that they need to stimulate Paul ticket sales with an Early Bird price and a hint that ticket prices with rise later. Is there any history with this promoter of holding back tickets to confound scalpers? Martin

Free like some of Paul's recent concerts would have been nice, but the tickets prices are now confirmed in my post above. None of the seats are reserved seating. General Admission is the chance to defend a patch of grass as your own - although the promoter suggests bringing your own blanket - no chairs. VIP is the right to queue on a first come first served basis for a choice of places on a "bleacher" style terracing. Forgive me, but the concept of bleacher seating is a bit alien to us over here in the UK - my impression is wooden bench style terracing without an actual individual seat as such. Certainly no seat numbers or reserved seating. VIP does include access to dedicated toilets etc here's the quote from the KISS concert web-page being held at the same venue a week later:
VIP Seating (limited amount): Prime stage viewing, raised bleacher seating provided (VIP tickets will be sold with an assigned bleacher section, but seats/rows within that section are not reserved. First come, first seated within each bleacher section in the VIP area). VIP preferred washrooms and concessions.
Perhaps some local Halifax members can describe what has been the case in the past? Martin

I just googled Halifax Commons bleachers and found this: Just get in line early Here's the real McCoy: Gathered from this web-site detailing the construction of the Stones concert: http://rexton.wordpress.com/2006/09/27/build-up-to-the-stones-concert/ Within that is a link to this slideshow of the bleachers: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rexton/sets/72157594301408955/show/ Thanks to the blogger Rexton for that.
