Halifax, NS - Halifax Common - 11th July 2009 - ARCHIVE

Yes. Come on Paul. We are starting to feel a bit neglected here. cry I did investigate going but the 17 hour flight from the UK has rather put me off!!!

I've heard that the VIP seating isn't anything special. Basically the space that is outlined on the layout you posted, and that's it. You (and 6000 others) possibly get your own washroom access, concession area (ridiculously expensive) and bleacher seating on a first come, first serve basis. Otherwise, the Halifax Common is standing room only. The Rolling Stones played there last summer. KISS is playing the weekend after McCartney. All in all, not a bad concert location, but small, considering the numbers that will want tickets. Located just minutes from downtown, the Common is located on the Halifax penninsula which can become very congested with traffic, especially during concerts, etc. Parking in the downtown area is difficult at the best of times. During the concert it will be recommended you use Public Transit. There is usually shuttle service available from a variety of locations throughout the city. Many Halifax area hotels are already booked. If you need suggestions/recommendations on where to stay, let me know. Downtown Halifax is approximately 40 minutes from the Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport.

Hi All - I am currently living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Needless to say, VERY excited about recent news that Paul will be performing here in July. A few points for those looking to join us for the concert: -The Web site selling tickets (Ticket Atlantic) has been known to crash when flooded with traffic - I believe the site crashed during the beginning of the sale of Elton John tickets, and MANY people, as a direct result, were unable to secure tickets. The main thing to remember is to NOT refresh your page, etc. once you have proceeded to the checkout. You may be "waiting" a little while for it to process. Hopefully they have worked the kinks out for this sale, but who knows. I'm debating doing a phone-in order, or just doing the old fashioned line camp-out. -The hotel closest to the concert site is the Holiday Inn on the corner of Quinpool & Robie. This is across the street from the concert site. I would advise booking rooms NOW, as hotels in the city book-up VERY quickly, even for smaller events. If you want contact information, just let me know. Or you can just Google-it like the rest of the world! -If you are unable to secure tickts, there are some reliable local sites you can find tickets. Let me know if you don't get any, and I'll let you know.
Thanks for the info, I booked at Hampton-Inn...concierge said is less than 15 min drive, since I didn't know what hotel was the closest I decided for the Hilton family, now I have to get tickets before I buy flights!

-

Good choice. Only a few months old and on the way from the airport (20 minutes). Then you can public bus all the way to the concert site or bus/ferry/walk for a better experience of the city. DCD Ltd.

Paul McCartney Date Saturday July 11, 2009 Info More information will be posted once confirmed Press Release Music Legend Paul McCartney To Perform His First Ever Show In Halifax, Nova Scotia Saturday July 11th 2009 HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA - Power Promotional Events President Harold MacKay announced today that Halifax will play host to the largest and most exciting concert in it?s 260 year history. ?We are pleased and thrilled to announce today that our city will welcome Sir Paul McCartney live in concert on the Halifax Commons, Saturday, bJuly 11, 2009. With sales of over 100 million, Paul is listed by the Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music history. This iconic and legendary performer?s presence in our city will be an historic event for all Atlantic Canadians? said Mr. MacKay. Sir Paul McCartney said ?I am very happy to be playing Halifax. The Canadian audiences are great and the timing of the event, with the arrival of the Tall Ships, means that it will be an exciting event for us all. We are looking forward to rocking in Halifax?. Premier of the Province of Nova Scotia, Rodney MacDonald said, ?Sir Paul McCartney is considered to be one of the world's top music acts. The opportunity for Halifax to host a concert of this magnitude will bring important economic benefits to the province and further solidify Halifax's reputation as a leader in hosting major events in Eastern Canada. Nova Scotia will be a centre for world-class events this summer with Sir Paul McCartney, Tall Ships and other significant festivals and events throughout the summer?. Halifax Mayor Peter Kelly is very pleased about this significant event coinciding with Tall Ships Nova Scotia Festival 2009. ?The British established this strategic port city to guard against invasion a long time ago. The enemy never did attack, and today we can happily say that Halifax will openly welcome the British Invasion of 2009?. This show is in keeping with a series of special one off concerts Paul has been performing over the last year, whilst making international headlines and taking him to places he?s never been before. In June 2008 Paul received a hero?s welcome as he rocked the city of Liverpool when he played at Anfield Stadium as part of the city?s celebrations for the European Capital Of Culture. In the same month Paul performed a spectacular free show, the ?Independence Concert?, to over 350,000 people in Kiev?s Independence Square which was the largest outdoor music event in the history of the Ukraine. July then took Paul to the city of Quebec for yet another huge headline-making event as he performed to 300,000 people in the city?s national park, The Plains Of Abraham, to help celebrate Quebec?s 400th anniversary. Paul also found the time (only just though!) to join Billy Joel on stage for the ?Last Play At Shea? show in July, marking the last show ever at New York?s famous Shea Stadium. The Beatles were the first band to perform at Shea Stadium in 1965, which went down in history as the first ever stadium rock show. September saw another first for Paul as he played his ?Friendship First, concert in Tel Aviv, Israel. This was Paul?s first ever visit to Israel. The Beatles were banned from performing there at the height of Beatlemania in the 60s. In April of this year Paul performed at the David Lynch Foundation?s benefit concert, ?Change Begins Within?, in New York, where he was joined on stage with Ringo Starr for a special finale. Paul also headlined the Coachella Festival (his first US festival appearance) and performed a show to mark the opening of The New Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, a gig which sold out in seven seconds, setting a new sales record as tickets went at a rate of 600 a second!

I don't think I can get off work4this.... Should I call out sick... What time does this start anyway?
-
if you think Paul should be encouraged to make some major changes to his set-list, please use this avatar picture to tell Him so (save the image, go to your profile, and upload the image "from your machine/computer")

Keep in mind the Tall Ships festival doesn't officially start until the 16th. But in the past some do show up a bit early. Tall Ships aside there is always plenty to take in on the waterfront. And for those who want to make it a week long visit there is an option to cap things off with KISS at the same concert site on the 18th. DCD Ltd.

Here are a list of hotels in the downtown area. Alll would be within decent walking distance, or very easily accessible by transit: Cambridge Suites Delta Halifax Delta Barrington Prince George Lord Neilson Halifax Marriott Casino Hotel Westin Nova Scotia Raddison Suites Four Points by Sheraton Citadel Hotel Hotels outside of downtown, but still in the city and very easily accessible by city transit: Holiday Inn Express (located on Kearney Lake Road) Future Inns Halifax Quality Inn (located on Parkland Drive) Lakeview Inn & Suites There are three hotels by the Airport - not accessible by city transit, and about a $50 cab ride in to the city. There isn't much (anything at all) around them in the way of restaurants, entertainment, etc. If you're renting a car, it's not a huge deal, but parking in the downtown is brutal ANY day of the week, even at the best of times. If you prep enough beforehand, and have no navigation issues, you can find one of the park and drive locations and hook a ride on one of the shuttles to the site. -Hilton Garden Inn -Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Halifax Airport -Quality Inn Airport -Inn on the Lake (not right by the airport, but on the way) There are some smaller locations, and B&Bs, if you don't have any luck with any of these. Let me know if you have any trouble. Ha ha - I might do well to loan out the spare bedrooms in my house (kidding). You should be able to find their contact information by Googling them. It you have any trouble, let me know and I can easily get you any information you need!
