R.I.P. Lou Reed This is very sad news even though I knew he was unwell . One of the true giants in 20th Century music , he was a brilliant dark singer song writer who took you to worlds you would not visit as a rule , but I found the underworld stories he sang about both intriguing and often heart breaking in their honesty . I was turned on to his music by David Bowie in the early 70's via his Transformer album which remains a favourite album , it's follow up 1973's " Berlin "album is a masterpiece it's dark stories of drug and child abuse are heartfelt , songs like The Bed and The Kids are almost unlistenable because he tells it as it really is in his lyrics . America and the world as lost one of it's greatest poets .

I hadn't known he was ill I wonder if Lou Reed was still married to performance artist Laurie Anderson when he passed away. I had a bewitching album by her.

Yes he was. Very sad to hear he has died, one of the greats.

"Lou Reed and Velvet Underground were our Beatles" --headline on Net I've heard Steely Dan were our Beatles too (for the U.S.). The Daily Mail Online (U.K.) complained that Reed "glamorized" drugs, all through his career.
