THE GLOBAL WINGS THREAD
-
Well, I haven't said a thing bout We Are The Champions... first of all, if someone wants to do record real drums on that is okey for me. Though the track, the original too, is a bit "be free with your tempo" as Queen said... My first track was the piano, the intro is similar to the one Queen did live... then I play it slower than the original. I added reverb to the piano to make it different than the Queen's track. I didn't know which key to use, I checked a lot. This song must be dramatic, and the original key must be "dramatic" enough for Freddie's voice but in my voice is sounded like something was missing. So I sang it higher. I tried to do it higher than this but the chorus part was really difficult to sing cause I simply couldn't breath enough air to all these non-stopping high notes. I did 2 vocal takes, one till the end of the first chorus, and one for the rest. (as I was lost after the first chorus and didn't know when to start singing again) I tried not to imitate Freddie at all. (Though it's such a difficult song that there is no room for nothing but singing the melody.) Though sometimes I did (2.36...) but is more Adamlambertish than Freddish. There's the huge distortion guitar doing kind of a bass job as I like, there is no bass really. And there's the little guitar solo. Robbie Williams recorded a version with Brian May and Roger Taylor with some Brian May's solo at the end. (sometimes I think it's a crime that not all the Queen's tracks have a guitar solo!) So I played a little something in the same moment. Needless to say, I didn't imitate Brian May... cause I can't. (the keyboard does sometimes what Brian did) And I must do some kind of drums and I did that keyboard thing... yes, wrong key at 2.48

As I mentioned, I've fallen for the pressure! Been playing this song occasionally. A Macca classic, love the simple arrangement, that is actually not so simple! Love the Wings harmonies and the bass is stunning . BUT I just did this with my portable handheld recording device, for the fun of it, no fixing done, live track, with a basic mix... SO, hope you have the patience to listen to this simple track, as I said, love the song, and would anyone like to try to record any harmonies, I won't say no! This is such a pretty tune, and you did a great job with it! You have a great style, and your voice has a very special quality to it, imo
Thanks Claudia for you feedback!! BT, the song is a great little tune, never understood why it wasn't released until 1990...

Well, I promised that if Spain won the World Cup, then I'll record a cover of We Are The Champions. (After lots of PCs problems...) We Are The Champions www.oliversanz.com/wearethechampions.mp3
Oh yeah, feel no pressure... That was some mountain to climb, you like a great challenge don't you... I must say you have put together an interesting soundtrack there, and a version of your own for sure!

I recorded my favorite Buddy Holly song tonight: NOT FADE AWAY: http://rapidshare.com/files/405639062/Audese_-_Not_Fade_Away_7-7-2010.mp3
Sounds great Audi. I like that distortion that you used. Are you using a processor/pedal? What type of amp do you have?
Thanks for listening to it. Actually, these days, I run everything through my BOSS-900CD digital 8-track recorder, which has numerous effects options. I think I used the "Texas" effect for the rhythm guitar track -- go figure -- that's where Buddy Holly was from.
Great, great track! It rocks for sure, must listen to the original, but can't imagine it is as heavy as your track!!

now I understand... It's a outtake of Wild Life... It's like why Christian Pop, Yvonne (The One), The Mist of Central Park, etc are not still released when they are "classics" level... that can only happen with Paul McCartney. When I played your recording someone was around here and asked to me "is that someone famous?" and I though for a moment and said... "no" and that someone said "but he sounds like if he was someone famous"

yes, you know me, I like challenges... is like... I don't know If I can do that... so that's what I've got to do... I already know what sure I can do, but the only way to learn for me (and the way to not get bored) are challenges. One of the last songs I've wrote it's called "Give Me A Mountain", very inspired in "You Gave Me A Mountain", I just need mountains.... that is me. I even felt dizzy after recording the vocal track . Well, thank you. And that's me too, mixing all kind of styles, a Beethovenish piano with a Metallica-sound guitar. If I like it, I keep it in, no matter how strange or commercial or normal these days it is, If I don't like it, it's out. Call it being true to myself or call it being egoistical.

remember the "timing" thing? ... this is absolutely sick... Lennon and McCartney live The Beatles live in Blackpool (Blackpool, Lancashire?), fantastic audio for a Beatle concert, not much fans screaming

Well, not me, I don't advice to anyone to go to these shows. Well, to be exact, I don't wish to anyone GOOD to go to these shows... (I've got a song for that, someone that shines but doesn't realize of it "The Story of the Sun and the Moon"... the Sun just doesn't realize he shines... he likes the Moonshine but doesn't realize that what he likes comes from him...)

Lately I'm going to a different karaoke. They have drums over the stage and I like to play sometimes when someone is singing... The things is that I've discovered that not so long ago they had guitars on the stage you could play but now they're not there cause nobody played them. But sometimes some people bring their guitars, plug them there and play them. So guess who is gonna carry his keyboard and Strato there... now the difference between karaoke and... performing is not so clear... Actually if I'm there with the keyboard and some appear with guitar, etc we simply become a live band. How cool is that? a band coming out of nothing. I still get lost in the beat of tracks playing drums... but I'm very creative, I came with a great thing while somebody sang Romeo And Juliet... It makes me want to have some here....

well, the long and winding road is very long and very winding... I don't know what is his but I hope he finds it (if he really wants to find it). I love this song "You can't run away forever..." Rock And Roll Dreams Come Trough-Meatloaf
You can't run away forever But there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start You want to shut out the night You want to shut down the sun You want to shut away the pieces of a broken heart Thing of how wed lay down together Wed be listening to the radio so loud and so strong Every golden nugget coming like a gift of the gods Someone must have blessed us when he gave us those songs I treasure your love I never want to lose it Youve been through the fires of hell And I know youve got the ashes to prove it I treasure your love I want to show you how to use it Youve been through a lot of pain in the dirt And I know youve got the scars to prove it Remember everything that I told you Well Im telling you again that it's true When you're alone and afraid And you're completely amazed To find there's nothing anybody can do Keep on believing And you'll discover baby There's always something magic There's always something new And when you really, really need it the most That's when rock and roll dreams come through The beat is yours forever The beat is always true And when you really, really need it the most That's when rock and roll dreams come through...for you... Once upon a time was a backbeat Once upon a time all the chords came to life And the angels had guitars even before they had wings If you hang on to a chorus you get through the night I treasure your love I never want to lose it Youve been through the fires of hell And I know youve got the ashes to prove it I treasure your love I want to show you how to use it Youve been through a lot of pain in the dirt And I know youve got the scars to prove it Remember everything that I told you Well Im telling you again that it's true Youre never alone cause you can put on the phones And let the drummer tell your heart ehat to do Keep on believing And you'll discover baby There's always something magic There's always something new And when you really, really need it the most That's when rock and roll dreams come through The beat is yours forever The beat is always true And when you really, really need it the most That's when rock and roll dreams come through...for you... -
Guys, I've just realized something: It was two years ago this month that I'd recorded my first GW contribution, Bjorn's version of "Mamunia." Our latest, "Mama's Little Girl," is a fitting project.
