Paul McCartney 2014 Rumors

RMartinez:
Whatever. Maybe he will tour for twenty more years.
That's what i and we all wish No matters when or how, no matters if he's playing a 3 hrs full show or a shorter one, a complete tour or random dates, ballads instead of rock songs. There are many ways he can sort things out, including of course stop. But i bet this is the last chance he considers. The only thing that makes me a bit sad is that, having rescheduled to october and Japan still to arrange, Europe seems to be definetely out for a while at least.

The reason for where he plays is pretty simple. Where is the promoter willing to guarantee the payment. The tour will have a minimum that a promoter has to pay to get a show. Then it is up to the promoter to figure out how to recoup that expense (and any other expenses they are responsible for). On the reduced concert length. Mark Rivera did an interview on the Things We Said Today podcast a couple of months ago. He talked alot about the all-star band, but he also talked some about his own album, Billy Joel and McCartney. One thing he said that had my ears perk up is that he would love for Paul and Billy to tour similar to what Billy and Elton have done in the past. He thinks it would be an amazing concert tour. Billy isn't in the greatest of health so this allows both to have moderate length shows and create one big show with likely overlap of playing together. RamblinRed
It's bad enough Elton John tours with Billy Joel, the two shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. If anything, Elton and Paul should tour- but both are such massive global mega-stars it doesn't make sense. They have their own shows. Would people stop thinking that singing songs for 2.5 hours -25 times a year is equal to running up Mount Everest. Paul has around 340 days off a year. He's sings for a few hours the other days.

Good point! There are 72 year old farmers who work a LOT harder every day!

Thank you stuartshire. A nasty virus can change a tour of a performer of any age. Much younger performers cancel a lot more often than Paul.
-
I am just glad for a postponement rather than a cancellation!

This is true, Elton isn't even close to Billy Joel's league!

Um I beg to differ. Or is it just that being a New Yorker, Joel is like god, and he's a commoner everywhere else?

Billy Joel is a huge international star. So is Elton John. It just seems some people think it is their job to decide who is a big star and who isn't. It means nothing. Billy Joel is doing a residency at Madison Square Garden. Elton does one in Las Vegas. It is what older stars do. It makes sense.

I just think Billy Joel is all round more talented than Elton John. I also prefer his music!

I am not sure about that. I think one can prefer one to the other. In the 70s and 80s they were both pretty hot, producing hits and such. Not popular to say here, but both could go nose to nose with Paul in the 70s and 80s. The Beatles legacy puts him over them. But it also does Ringo.

I enjoy the music of Elton and Billy Joel. I enjoyed their Face to Face tours. I now prefer Elton but that is my taste. Puts on a great show in Vegas and brings lots of energy when he tours.

I'm sorry, is this Paul McCartney's forum?

I have seen Elton John twice in Albuquerque and he was amazing both times! I saw Billy Joel once in LA and he was great too. I've seen Paul McCartney eight times and he puts on an amazing show as well.

At some point McCartneywill have to slow down or even stop - time ticks for everyone. I think the question that is truly being asked on this thread right now is this - Did the recent virus cause McCartney to change his thinking/planning in terms of touring for the future. In the end all you can go by are the words and more importantly the actions of the individual. Based on those I would say the answer to the question is No - he will not change his touring philosophy based on what happened. His PR statements have been very positive and given no hint that he is thinking of winding down. He could have cancelled the June dates but he did not, he simply had them rescheduled. The South Korea date was not cancelled but postponed suggesting there will be a future Asian tour. Nothing he has said or done in the last month makes me think he is seriously thinking of making any significant changes to his shows or touring plans. I think he will continue to play close to 3 hour shows. I think he will continue to schedule 20-30 concerts a year. If he has another health issue down the road that could be revisited, but I don't see anything at this point that suggests he is even seriously thinking about that yet. RamblinRed

My sister in Denver said she considered going to see McCartney in Lubbock, Missoula, Fargo,or Lincoln and that tickets are still available for those shows. She decided against it, as those markets are difficult to get reasonable plane fares to, and that, being much smaller markets, there are not many convenient flights in and out of them. I wonder if that is a factor for some of the slower sales?

There is one market where sales never dissapoint no matter the ticket prices: Brazil. So Paul will return to Brazil next year probably.

I wasn't talking about Brazil. I am talking about what might be happening here in the USA. If he wants to spend the rest of his career performing in Brazil, it would not effect me at all. It would be very weird, though.

They say it's impossible not to get laid during Carnival in Brazil!
