I'd love to convert to vinyls, I wouldn't know where to begin.
First get a record player. Then find a music store in your area that sells new or used records. There are tons of listings on eBay too. Be careful of quality and read the listings carefully.
I don't even know where to find a record player

Um...Ever heard of shopping? : Stores...the Internet? Google search...amazon, eBay, Best Buy all have record players. Best Buy even has stores you can go in too! In the U.S.anyway...

yeah, getting that turn tables the easy part Jordan! finding the records you need, that can be a challenge sometimes. but if you find the right vinyl shop, you can fill out the collection pretty quickly. and not very expensively I've found. Most of the ones I buy are sub $10, and this includes McCartney, Lennon, some of the greats. you'd be surpised what you can find. so I couldn't be much more excited. this morning I swung by Platterpus and picked up Nilsson's The Point!, and McCartney's Press To Play, for a total of $13! $8 and $5 respectively. They are both in really solid condition, especially Press, looks brand new.. except for that damn notch that somehow gets taken out of the album covers quite frequently. What is that?! but can't wait to dig into that album tonight. both are gatefold covers which I like. The Point! is in great shape too, and even has the sweet original 7page album cover size full color comic book of the story which I didn't expect to get, or even knew existed for that matter. I'll definitely be scanning it in and posting that in the Nilsson Thread.. give me a few days on that one so, what's next.. I really am beginning to look forward to BeatlesFest this year. I never have gone, but I want to check it out this time. I need to get my hands on an early Wings boot vinyl, thats my goal. and anything would be fine. are there any early shows that have been pressed on vinyl? the prize would be that 1972 Arles joint for me I might spring for as much as $100 to get that on vinyl. http://www.bootlegzone.com/album.php?name=str023§ion=3

My preferred method of music listening is vinyl, without question. I'm 18, and so I've basically inherited all of my parent's/aunt's/uncle's LPs. None of them were big Beatles/Paul fans, but I did gain some Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones records from them. On my own time/penny I've purchased every American released Beatles/Wings/McCartney album and am working up my collection. Right now I have 90 LPs, and I add to this collection constantly, as I have a RECORD store right by my house Vinyl sounds so much better. I love the cracks and pops that the records produce and I love the warm sound they have as well.

Cracks and pops are not the sound of the vinyl, it's the sound of scratches, dirt and dust on the vinyl. Clean, unscratched records don't sound like that, they sound...well clean and unscratched!

On the subject of vinyl quality though, cracks and pops will occur on poorly pressed vinyl. That is why now with the vinyl resurgence you will see all these 180 gram, 200 gram, virgin vinyl, direct master types of records. They are much higher quality and they don't press nearly the numbers they used to. Collectors will notice that records in the 1960's were heavier and better quality than records in the 70's and especially the 80's when the record companies were churning out millions of vinyl pressings every year. They used recycled cheap vinyl and the records became so light they could bend, warp and scratch really easily.

that's pretty wild I totally noticed that but never knew why. I figured they figured out a way to enhance the vinyl play, thickening it up for consistency, or maybe even a harder vinyl. cause the new records I have barely bend at all, and they sound great. A lot of the RCA records from the 70's (Nilsson) seem flimsy as hell. very interesting

just picked up Keith Moon's 74 solo record Two Sides Of The Moon, as well as the McGear vinyll from 74. nice 1974 pick ups I'm loving each, McGear better though. but why I'm posting is to give props and visibility to a sweet source of vinyl, for anyone trying to build their collection. or just to shop randomly for gems They're called Platterpus records. I'm telling you, if its 1960-1985, great chance they have it. i've found anyway... plus I'd like to see a great vinyl shop like this prosper. chitty boom chitty boom check it oouuut http://www.platterpus.com/ http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=100218 http://www.dailyherald.com/story/image/?image=29663&id=100218# I may have mentioned this place before.. so sorry about all the Platterpus plugging. this will be the last time

I'm 21 and I've been collecting vinyl for 5 years or so.....I've got some Beatles, but it seems a bit hard to come by around here. I've got three or four Rubber Souls.....a White Album that has the crap beat out of it (but I am so in love with it!), the Red and Blue albums, Abbey Road, the Help! soundtrack and the AHDN soundtrack as well. Last week my husband found a Venus and Mars (with the posters!!) at a flea market for five bucks.....in great shape!! We love Dylan vinyl, too, but rarely see it. We usually shop at the local Half-Price Books, which generally has a pretty sweet used collection....ever-changing, too. Also have another store run by an old hippie whom I'm in love with.....always has the latest news and always gives me a discount. He's fantastic. Ok, dumb question time......!! How can I tell if a record is an original pressing?? I've been collecting too long to not know, but I'm having too much fun to call a time-out and figure it out.

There must be websites that list the item numbers for each album, there's one for The Beatles. BTW what's the best turntable? What Hi-FI suggests Genie Project, or somthing like that, it's £200. Any other thoughts, not including the £1000 job ones.

Its National (and perhaps worldwide who knows ) Record Store Day tomorrow! (4/16) who's excited? I am very pumped about it, prices are slashed folks, get out to your record stores and buy buy buy. I think this is mostly a vinyl thing. I know the place I go to is having local bands play too, and are just slashing the hell out of their prices. and a bunch of new records are being released on vinyl. Nirvana is releasing a record called Hormoaning, which is one I don't own. It will be the first US release of their original Australian tour EP. pretty sweet. I'll pick that one up. So here's your heads up, go get em tigers.
-
actually I doubt I'll be getting that Nirvana gem.. only 6000 copies being sold!! thats Dumb
http://www.spinner.com/2011/03/23/nirvanas-hormoaning/ maybe just happy think I'm just happy. -
Well record store day rocked as I knew it would. Todays take cost me $30: Beatles For Sale James Taylor (Apple) Alice Cooper - Greatest Hits (1973, lost weekend HV release!) Randy Newman - Sail Away (freaking awesome record, Nilsson covered a bunch of these so now I can dig into the comparisons, which I've been dying to do ) U2 - EP Under A Blood Red Sky The Chambers Bros - Time Has Come Today Sly & The Family Stone - Greatest Hits last but in no way shape or form least!! - Wings! Some Japanese Greatest Hits release, on something called 'First Records'. I may start a thread on this record cause its peaked my curiosity.. its got a great track selection.. but has the lyrics printed on the back and they are all messed up! its hilarious how wrong they are! They all out mangled Hi Hi Hi Elvis in Concert The Animals - Greatest Hits ... a couple others too great day at the record store

Unfortunately I don't own much Vinyl's (that's another word for lp, right?), most music I own are cd-reproductions. But I do own a few lp's, for example a couple of Billy Joel lp's and The Beatles' lp Beatles For Sale.

Macsback, you start keeping the records clean, and playing them, listening to them.. everything else begins to pale in comparison. plus they are like peices of history! will become more and more as they get older and everything becomes digital. sweet investment I say
