Rickenbacker bass on Silly Love Songs LIVE 2014
-
Now THAT would be something, really would be something... Wouldn't it????
-
Yes it would. Makes for a nice dream, because sadly I think both the Rickenbacker and "Silly Love Songs" days are gone from Paul's live concerts. At least we get to hear it in the Preshow DJ mix at the concerts.
-
Would you say that it's safe to assume any songs you hear in the pre-show soundtrack aren't going to be played that night?

Nancy, not only that, it was the #1 song on the charts as well! That was one heck of a tour wasn't it?

I believe there is still hope for the Rickenbacker....after seeing Paul play Rockshow live in 2010, I believe anything like that is still possible. Thing is, it seems that Paul just doesn't get how iconic him playing the Rick is or how much his fans would love to see him play it again - it would be incredible to see that again. Perhaps if the other guys in the band would encourage him??? As per Elvis Costello encouraging him to get the Hofner back out in '89? Ya never know!

Speaking of the Rick. When was the last time Paul has used it, either public or private? Im sure he doesnt just let it gather dust. It would be a question id like to ask Paul. How often do you play the Rick?

I love the '76 live version! I know many people who got to experience that, mostly in Chicago. I would have gone had I been alive at the time... I also like the Broad Street version. As for the Rickenbacker, Paul does still use it, just not on stage. I know he usually plays it on at least one song for studio albums. It was played on one of the songs on "New" (not sure which, I don't remember). Also if you watch Paul's "Queenie Eye" music video, and especially the "making of" video, you can see a couple of his Rickenbackers on the guitar stand (including the 4001). So it's still around. I think the last time he played it 'live' was during the "All The Best" promo back in '87 (video below).
