Disco Music
-
My children and I recently watched The Martian on HBO and fell in LOVE with the soundtrack! Since seeing this film we cannot get enough disco music! ops: Fun music, makes one want to dance! Just ordered Pure Disco 1, 2, and 3 to pop in the jukebox. ops: Anyone here enjoy disco music? We would LOVE to hear from one who spent part of their prime in the time period. If you have not yet seen The Martian, when convenient check it out - great flick with an awesome soundtrack! Matt Damon delivers a delightful performance!

Love the movie The Martian and I agree it has a brilliant soundtrack. Particularly love the use of David Bowie's Starman when the rescue is being planned. I grew up in the 70's when Disco was at the peak. But I was a Rock fan and there was so much great Rock then. So I guess I was mostly part of the "Disco sucks" crowd. I did like some Disco though I had to admit, like the Bee Gee's Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (which is so catchy you could not escape it), and Paul's Goodnight Tonight. And Abba's Voulez Vous is a classic! Then I heard Heart of Glass by Blondie and loved it. I thought: OK if that's Disco then I'm a fan. So I bought the album with that song and it turned out to be the only Disco tune on it. Blondie was a Rock band! I thought that was really funny!

The use of 'Starman' in The Martian is perfect! "Disco sucks!" Saturday Night Fever, forgot all about that one! You have reminded me that we have this film in our DVD collection and will now be watched by my kids. In thinking about it, I believe we have the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack in our CD collection, but not certain. I will have to check as no doubt after watching the film a request for the soundtrack to be popped into the jukebox will follow. We may have a Bee Gees CD or two as well, thanks for sparking the thought! We never thought of 'Goodnight Tonight' as a disco song, but now that you point it out, it certainly fits perfectly. We had to look up 'Voulez-Vous' on YouTube as none of us had ever heard it. ops: This, of course, led to a marathon of checking out more ABBA. Your Blondie story is great, thanks so much for sharing that! So in the end, you were still a rock fan. Thanks so much for a great reply!

Talk about a coincidence. I just downloaded a bunch of songs by people like Alicia Bridges, Maxine Nightingale, Nicolette Larson, Yvonne Elliman, Leif Garrett, Leo Sayer, KC & the Sunshine Band, Lipps Inc, Hues Corporation, Labelle and Chic. That's a lot of boogie dance grooves. Can ya dig it?

Me too! I loved the Bee Gees and have the soundtrack on vinyl. Saw the movie at the theater of course! My favorite disco era song is Fire, which we used to do the dance "the bump" to. Anyone remember that?

Right you are SurSteven, even Rod (The Mod) Stewart picked up the Disco beat with "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" as Kiss did with "I Was Made For Loving You!" In the Rolling Stones 2005 release RARITIES 1971-2003, there is a blistering 7:33 Dance Version of "Miss You!" I LOVE IT!

Saturday Night Fever on the big screen, that must have been awesome!!!

Could not find 'Fire' on YouTube. Googled "the bump," came up with pregnancy. Searched for "the bump" on YouTube finding the following video. My kids are still laughing!

I had to laugh at one of the comments, "white people should NEVER dance in public" 'Fire' 7:36 Fantastic! Thanks so much for posting!

I didn't much care for disco when it was big, with the exception of a couple Village People tunes, but on the rare occasions when I hear an old disco song now, it usually brings back pleasant memories.
