When GREAT singers keep their chops!
-
A recent Judy Collins concert on PBS I saw the other night proved she has kept her fantastic unique singing chops, or gotten them back after being a singer for at least 50 years. Whatever singing coach she goes to Paul M. should look into, 'cause Judy Collins sounds astonishingly as she did in her heyday, clear smooth vocal tones always on pitch or in tune. Not that I think Paul McCartney's singing has gone downhill a lot-- just going by some peoples' remarks on that subject concerning him.

That's good to hear. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for singers like Joni Mitchell and Marianne Faithful. On a good day, Debra Harry (Blondie) sounds as great as she ever did.

it's a crying shame Joni Mitchell continued to record with her pipes all shot from ciggies probably, she sounds terrible, Faithfull is supposed to sound bad, seems the worse she croaks out a tune the more people dig it as though she's charmed--it's weird, audi

I thought Billy Joel did a fantastic job with one of my favorite songs of his the other night, even though I'd heard he'd been sounding rough during his last two tours. What he's lost in looks, he's kept in voice.
The picture quality is crap, though! -
Billy Joel's music = good times. And, yeah, he may look older, but his chops are very much in tact.
-
I am stunned at how fantastic Chaka Khan has been looking lately! I hate to say it: But she looks even better at (almost) 60 than Tina Turner did at her sixth decade! And that's sayin' somethin'! She'd ALWAYS kept her chops in tact, but she really, really sounds vocally limber here. Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody (live @ Concord Pavilion 5-27-2012):

One for the old queens like me...she's in her 60s and STILL a powerhouse vocalist: Jocelyn Brown - Somebody Else's Guy (live @ London 2012):

When The Wall Tour came to town last year, I should not have let the opportunity slip away. From what I can tell, it's an amazing show. still kicking myself in the butt for not coughing up the dough to go see it. Rodger Waters has taken good care of his pipes as many of you saw during the 12/12/12 concert.

How could I forget!?! This man's voice has gotten BETTER over time if you ask me... Roger Hodgson (of Supertramp)- Dreamer

It may be too obvious but Barbra Just like Roger Hodgson or Roy Orbison borders perfect technique so the voice is still the same, and so Olivia Newton John It seems like a impossible thing Barbra at... 70! People
The Way We Weeeeeeeeeeeeeere.... It seems like they got on the stage out of a time machine or so. and Olivia at 64! Hopelessly Devoted to you.... -
And then there's Melba Moore who sings the HIGHEST notes better and easier than ever.... and than anyone, probably... 67! 8.25!
-
I don't think anyone has mentioned Dave Grohl. He still has a clear, strong voice...and we should all know since he and Paul are collaborating so much lately. Just thought I'd mention ol'Dave.

There's an obscure rock/pop singer from the 70's who I think was in a band called Wings that's quite good, can't quite remember his name though. :

And what was the name of the band he was in before Wings?
