Beatlemaniac:
Hello SP and Pawel sorry to interrupt but I just had to come here and say hello to ((SP)) cuz I haven't posted songs with you in a long time. ...btw Pawel, i don't know Polish, but I live in a polish community (Greenpoint, Brooklyn). I noticed a lot of people who live in Poland come to visit relatives in Greenpoint, and vice versa. ...Oh and SP, it's great that you're learning another language ...and I'm sure it's alot of fun! Pawel could probably teach you alot....which I'm sure he's been doing
Hello ((BM))! Nice to see you here! Learning new languages is actually a big interest of mine. I have some knowledge in a couple, though it's by no means perfect! But you are right, Paweł is a very good teacher!

Sergeant Pepper:
But you are right, Paweł is a very good teacher!

Sergeant Pepper:
Co jest prawda, wolno mówić!
: : :
-
Probably I got it totally wrong... "What is true may be said!" Now, what's that in correct Polish?
-
"Co prawda to prawda"
-
That would be "what's true is true..." Well, anyway... I guess it means the right thing!
-
Sergeant Pepper:
Let me see if I can think of a few names... Legia Warszawa Gwardia Warszawa Lech Poznań Stal Mielec Wisła Kraków Śląsk Wrocław Ruch Chorzów Opole Odra Zagłębie Sosnowiec Zagłębie Wałbrzych Widzew Łódż ŁKS Łódż Górnik Zabrze All of these clubs have played in European Cup tournaments in past years... But there are probably a few more!
To największy w historii sukces polskiej piłki klubowej. W latach '90 Legia Warszawa grała w Lidze Mistrzów i dotarła do ćwierć-finału.

"Dobrze, zobaczymy co się będzie działo w przyszłym roku" Today my younger daughter (4&1/2) Anna made a funny mistake. We were going in our car when I heard an ambulance siren, so I pulled over. Me and the girls discussed why I had to pull over and Anna said: "Karetka musi zdążyć bo ktoś może umarnąć" ("The ambulance must be in time, otherwise someone could die" The problem is that the infinitive is "umrzeć". She simply made up the infinitive form herself based on the past form of "umarł" (he died) She ought to have said "może umrzeć" Not a funny word, but a funny mistake though
-
Yes, funny mistake when you consider that it was based on complete logical thinking! As language constantly changes, and works towards regularity, some of the inventions by children may, after a few generations, become the accepted standard form! An example from German: the established strong past tense form of the word "backen" (to bake) was "buk", but that's hardly heard anymore these days, while the weak (more regular) form "backte" (which used to be totally wrong) is gaining ground, and can almost be considered standard now!

-
Right back at you, Beatlemaniac - have a wonderful day! Paweł, I thought it might not be too good this time. I wasn't really in a good shape when I did that exercise. Also I think this type of shuffling around words might just be a bit too early for me at my current level of knowledge in Polish... But I will keep on practising!
-
Sergeant Pepper:
