Sam Leach:
Hi Sam (Samcat) I prefer that nickname. I know our tewams aren't playing each other. The premiership would be much too fast even for the best Brazilian teams. Mind you brazil play better football...sometimes. Cheers. Sam.
Yes, sometimes.... when the goalkeeper´s name is Seaman....heh , heh
-
I've been admiring them before you were born when they had Puskas, Di Stefano and Hento. Don´t you mean Gento, Sam ???

cbimbi:
Yes Sam, congrats for LIverpool victory om saturday, I saw the penalty on TV, great !!! and congrats Oliver for Real Madrid that now is first in the spanish league quote] Now the leader is Valencia who won 0-5. But I prefer Real Madrid's showtime.
-
hey, Oliver and Sam.... you didn´t mention one of the best goalkeepers ever ...Mr [ I,d say " Sir "! ] Gordon Banks.... everyone here consider his catch when Pele headed the ball to the goal [ brasil 1 x 0 england 1970 ] the most incredible defense ever made . maybe Lev Yashin was better, or Carrizo.... but I didnt see them tchau

I was gonna say Yashin starting reading your post. The thing is I don't have seen him. Only short moments, as the famous Banks stop. But watch out for Casillas. He was the best player this Saturday, in spite all that Ronaldo, Zidane and Beckham did. And he's only 22. Hey Sam, today is was the birthday of Sophie the Queen Of Spain. And the violoncellist Rostropovitch gave a concert in Madrid with the royal family in the audience, the new official girlfriend of the Prince included. It was in a classical Hall, teatro Real. At the end they played Happy Birthday to you with the orchestra... honouring the Queen. But they could have played "Twist And Shout" to the future Princess. "Come on baby!" LOL. But no jewellery to rock, Spanish royalty is not so rich...

Hey Sam! we had a surprise here in WI today SNOW! got 2 inches here, it stayed on the ground, they had said rain earlier but it just started up again a while ago.

The thing is... the Beatles are everywhere and all the time...for old and for young ... forever for example the music teacher of my 11 years old daughter asked her to research about Beethoven, VillaLobos [ our brazilian classic composer ] and .... Beatles, of course !!!! after all .... aren´t they on the same level ? [ I wonder if someday a music professor will ask his students a research about Britney Spears or Michael Jackson´s " music..." ] and our Minister of Culture is Gilberto Gil a well respected pop musician who is Beatlemaniac idea D
-
My daughter had to do a music timeline, she asked me who should she do. I said Paul. Big mistake, the task was huge. JLo would have had a small timeline. We only covered the basics, but between 1942 & 2003, we had 42 facts on the timeline. With a break from 1942-1956, there wasn't a year, that he didn't have a musical milestone. Very impressive and exhausting. My daughter learned alot.

YEs, I think that Beethoven and the Beatles are aprox. at the same level. YOu know, the "hard to compare" arguement. But... the greatest composers of all time for me: 1 McCartney 2 Beethoven 3 Mozart 4 Mercury 5 Lennon No artists ever can be compared to what the Beatles did in 7 years. Beethoven or Mozart needed a whole life to, IMO, don't top his catalogue.

Acutally i think Lennon/McCartney should be at the top of the list with Harrison somewhere on there also, he was a brilliant song writer as well.

LOL I know. 1 is Lennon/McCartney absolutely. But you can see two differents ways of composing in them. Since 1965. So I consider them two different songwriters. Of course George Harrison was a brilliant songwriter. But I'll put before Elton John, Jagger/Richards or Johann Sebastian Bach, for instance. TBH I don't think you can put George's name into these enourmous geniuses. But he was 1/4 of the greatest artist ever. BTW, when I was younger, so much younger than today... I used to think, like many press today say, that Lennon was the genius, the creator of 80 % of the songs (Lennon..../McCartney) and the author of Imagine, too... so the best ever. And one day I knew who wrote every song. The same thing happened to me with Queen and Freddie Mercury. I thought that all Queen's song are from Freddie. (These things happen because of having recorded cassettes not original records..). You know "Lennon/McCartney" was a kind of "trademark". They wrote songs in "different rooms" since 1965. But they kept it that way. I think that's because they admired "Rodgers/Hammerstein""Goffin/King""Lieber/Stoller".

Well i think everyones list of songwriters would be different i know my top 5 would be different than yours, but at least we agree that the Lennon/McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, McCartney should all be on top. Ringo's recent song for George Never Without You is Fab also!

Hi Everyone Sorry I've been AWOL but I've been wrapped up in some serious writing and I've got to keep on it. I'll catch up tomorrow night. Love, hugs and cheers. Sam.

Of course everyone top 5 would be different. What a boring thing would be if we all liked exactly the same. But George wouldn't be on my top. Above him would be Paul Simon, Elton John, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Brian Wilson, Page/Plant, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, David Bowie, Noel Gallagher, Brian May, Bob Dylan, Roger Hodgson, Jagger/Richards and U2, also John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Freddie Mercury. Not mentioning classical music composers. But, what does it matters? LOL It's just my opinion. Would you join us playing this weekend (I have amigdalitis, dunno If I will be able to sing)?
-
Paul would be #1 his songs move me like no other. Ballads, rockers, classical & alternative. The diversity of his talent lands him at #1
-
Paul would be my number one composer, followed by John. Keep up the writing, Sam!

I must tell you that I don't have listened to the George's solo records. I just know his "greatest hits": My Sweet Lord, Got My Mind Set On You, Give Me Love... so maybe if I heard them my opinion could change.

I'm sure about Paul's #1. But then for number 2 I've got three "challengers": Freddie Mercury, John Lennon and Elton John. These are my 10 favs song from each one: FM: Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, The Show Must Go On, Somebody To Love, Friends Will Be Friends, Love Of My Life, Made In Heaven, In The Lap Of The Gods, There Must Be More To Life Than This and Barcelona. JL: Imagine, All You Need Is Love, Give Peace A Chance, Strawberry Fields Forever, In My Life, Happy Xmas (War Is Over), God, Jealous Guy, Revolution and Help!. EJ: Your Song, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, The One, Daniel, Candle In The Wind, Funeral For A Friend, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, I'm Still Standing, Live Like Horses and Tonight. Weren't they great? Elton's coming to Barcelona at the end of November!

Hello everyone, My crazy schedule has kept me away from the thread for a few days. I hope that all is well. Hi Sam, I look forward to reading your posts. Hi Sara, Have you been on Yahoo or MSN lately? I have logged on to either for a while. I can't wait until we have our first snow here. I don't want a blizzard like the last snow we had but just a few inches would make me happy. Hi Denny, Couldn't agree with you more My Favorite Songwriters would be: 1. McCartney 2. Tori Amos 3. Gordon Lightfoot 4. Alanis Morisette 5. Simon LeBon (Duran Duran).
