Ahhhh but back in the 'Pool, they'd take him down a few pegs very quickly if he came on as "THE STAR"

david mitchelson:
Lubiana But he may have had a bit more respect if he'd been American. America would know how to respect a major, major innovative star like Macca whereas we here in the UK build them up only to then knock 'em down, hard! It's called the tall poppy syndrome.
I believe thats why Bowie chooses not to live here. Dont forget though, England as produced some of the best music ever....with integrity. I love soul music from the US .....but with the exception of the white stripes and the strokes , i havnt liked any music from America for ages ......they normally take the 'RAWK !' / showbiz or rap route to music....all rubbish.

Morning Mr Moggy How are you this morning? The fact that Macca has stayed in this country, contributed to its culture, to its infrastructure through his considerable taxes and the taxes of all those he and the boys influenced is very much to his credit. It is even more to his credit that he has done so when he is seen as some sort of joke figure by so many saddo's in this heap. They of course haven't listened to one of his records since before the flood and have no intention of doing so. I have read review after review which has post after post all rating EA as one of THE albums of the year and accessible to all, brilliant etc etc and yet I've seen people write they still have no interest in buying it even though it sounds fascinating.....and why do they not want it?......because of who recorded it, they actually admit they aren't gonna buy a great album because it is a Macca one. Macca should move to The Hamptons or wherever......he'd a be more appreciated by America......we don't deserve to have someone as great as Macca......we should be left with the z-listers we worship now like 'moaner' Lewis, Borezone, westsh**e and the Sugardogs. I like some US music, mainly Motown, Atlantic etc.......love Otis Redding. I'm a happy little bunny aren't I?...... I am demolishing a packet of Cadbury's Chocolate Fingers at the moment and hang the consequences......I need the fix......

Been away (from here) awhile. I've been very busy doing so many things that I don't always do what I would like to get done! (please join the line here...) I hope to get Macca's new CD tomorrow. I have pretty well all of them, including rare ones and others not so legal! I'm very disappointed that he his cutting back on his touring because of the financial crises (so I here!) I am/was really looking forward to see him 'Down Under' in good 'ol Adelaide South Australia! I have seen him 2X here so far. I would really have liked to see the Fab 4 in '64, but I was "only" 11 and mum said that they would be back again. You can't always believe in what your mum says! At least I have been to London and crossed Abbey Road and spent a day in Liverpool. (The only bus tour that had a stop in Liverpool long enough to see some things!) I hope to go again 1 day! He is getting on a bit and I don't think he will tour for many more years now, so, please!, ignore the financial crises and come anyway! (Bring Ringo to! He has never toured down under also and didn't play in Adelaide as he was still recovering from tonsillectomy. (OOOh thanks spell checker!!)

I totaly agree ....i have been shouting his praises for that recently , in light of some sportsman who drives cars fast leaving the country at the first sniff of money . Sports personality of the year ? ....just shows how greed and looking after no 1 is now respected as a GOOD trait ....as usual i blame thatcher . I cannot knock American music as a whole , as i have played little else over the last two years......like you say, motown, stax, atlantic....northern soul - some of the best music ever wrote. Its just that they dont seem to 'get' mod. Look at the beatles, the who , the small faces, the kinks, the jam ect , and look at the beach boys.......who dressed them / designed their album covers ect ? Except for the strokes/ white stripes , very few sound and LOOK the part these days, from the US...it all seems to be r&b/ pop/ rap nonesense. What happened to the talking head/ patti smith/ television types ? Having said that 3 of my fav lps of this year were from the US......Eli' paperboy' reed, nicole atkins and stepanie makay.........but you know what i mean

Moggy R&B warblers, C-Rap music and it's dreadful and inflamatory lyrics and those nice virgin boys add a touch of HighSchool Musical and you have a recipe for sugar, honey, iced tea. Give me Mod's (no not you lot Moderators, back in your kennels... : ) and Atlantic, Northern Soul any day. Add The Beatles/Sixties stuff and a little Blues and Jazz, a dash of Marc Bolan and David Bowie, some way out stuff like Laurie Anderson/ Scott Walker/David Byrne etc and mix it up with The Coral and The Flaming Lips (who I've been spouting about for years) and that pretty much covers it. If I had a bit more nouse I'd probably be able to find a lot more.....but I am nowt but a twonk and my BRAIN HURTS!......what brain there is anyway..... As for Lewis Hamilton, now you know as well as I do he left the country to go to the Swiss alps or Monaco or wherever to get away from our horrible press who were hounding him and making his life a misery...... : Yeah, that's right Lewis.

....i think the big clue was the word Switzerland ....if he had gone to Italy or somewhere with a different climate / culture i could have understood it. Padrick harrington should have won the sports personality....two majors ....AND hes got a personality

*praps we should bring this back to Paul Macca, where it belongs? Not fussing at y'all, though* Sir Paulie Walter Raleigh, Bless you for not deserting Jolly Olde. I know you love it. If I may be so bold, I'm quite sure many of your countrymen love you, too. You're a national (and international) treasure giving pleasure beyond measure, you're the tops of the pops and the trembly bees knees O how you please, please, please me, have no fear I'd please you, too! Your talent is true blue, so we are true to you. Gawd bless ya, you're a peach, at the top of the tree so very out of reach, your sweet fruit shall ne're rot cos of all your charms you've got, this story does have a plot--a dingbat from Dixie really digs thee, in your magical kingdom the Olde Sod you must, O you surely must be regarded as Lord of the Lute. Gawd almighty, bless the olde sod you trod. There shall always be an England... which seems ever so much more dear with our precious Pearl of a Paul innit, you're a Persian or Siamese rare among men, dear Gawd is this thing ever gonna end, is it? --Your Friend.
