Video Game Music: "Destiny"
-
Interesting tidbit: I just got the new Collector's Edition of New and it has the same liner notes as the original album, where Paul starts with "Dear You..." and goes on to describe the making of the album. To my surprise, reading it again anew, when it brings up Giles Martin, it says, "We worked together on music for the Olympic Games, and had recorded a song for an upcoming Bungie video game. I asked him if he would like to work on some of my new songs. He agreed...." etc. So "Hope" was recorded back BEFORE the songs for the New album (at least the Giles Martin ones). I don't think I had realized that before.

Exactly. The precise recording date is in the current reprint of my book "Paul McCartney: Recording Sessions (1969-2013)"

Luca, I am really enjoying your book... I have to say that it is the most fascinating book... with all of the ancedotes that accompany each song. I'm also really enjoying the surprise of the song order in some cases such as this! Thanks!!

Thnaks so much! I though that the best way to follow Paul's musical output was to lay down the songs in the order in which they were recorded. Furthermore, having so many interviews helps the book being "historical" I think.

Luca I find your book to very interesting and most informative. Love reading about the songs.
-
I also love Luca's book, especially when he mentions where and when the songs have been played live.. back to topic: can't wait for the announcement of the Hope single, hopefully it will be soon. I have my fingers crossed for a CD release, not just download.
-
Yes sorry for getting of topic. This is a nice song and I am also looking forward to it's release.
-
I would guess it's going to be a download, except maybe a promo CD single. But I think we should know pretty soon!

Thanks so much! The best thing is to open a little topic about my book in the WHAT'S THAT YOU'RE DOING section (I think it's the appropriate section) so we can discuss it a little bit

A new contest just announced for folks in the UK: "UK Fans: Win the chance to join Paul discussing 'Hope For The Future' with Lily Cole --- To be in with a chance of attending the event, fans should head over to Impossible: http://mpl.pm/PMc_Impossible where you will need to register and create a new 'wish' saying what musical instruments you play along with the hashtag #iamamusician Full info on the talk HERE: http://www.paulmccartney.com/news-blogs/news/win-the-chance-to-join-paul-discussing-hope-for-the-future-with-lily-cole

Thanks! That link didn't work, but I think this does: http://www.paulmccartney.com/news-blogs/news/win-the-chance-to-join-paul-discussing-hope-for-the-future-with-lily-cole Also says the song, which is called "Hope For The Future" and not "Hope," will be released "in the coming weeks." I guess they're waiting till after the "Art of McCartney" hoopla is over, and possibly after Thanksgiving in the U.S.?
-
Very cool for his UK fans!

There's a promo cd single (legit?) on ebay, and it's just listed as "Hope", fwiw...

Thanks, that's a great find! Maybe it's my web browser, or the fact I'm in the US, but it played a little differently for me. Paul's first segment is about 45 minutes in, as you say, but then the second part starts at about 2 hours 41 minutes. Each segment is about 5 minutes long, and it's the episode called "Earworms, Please," on November 20. Wow, that mix could hardly be more different! Paul talks about the orchestra, but it sounds like the orchestra has been completely eliminated, and there are lots of modern guitars and beats, as well as that keyboard sound from the interlude of "Queenie Eye," more or less.

Thanks for the link. Might take a little getting used to, after hearing the original orchestrated version. Good though.
