Remembering Linda
-
^ That is a rare photo, but I have seen it before. The other one of Linda was taken during WOA. They played in Cincinnati that night. I had seen them 9 days earlier in Atlanta!
Oobu, did you see them May 31, June 1 or June 2 in Chicago?

^ Great photo! Here’s one of Linda and Heather from 1965!

Heather looks so cute here! Linda must have always enjoyed cooking.

Linda and Martha (or is this one of Martha's offspring?)
-
Depends when photo was taken. Martha died in 1981 at age 15.

Question: Do you think before Paul and Linda got married she asked him to shave his beard, or did he do it on his own? The above pic is from 1970 I think, where he really let it get out of hand! Remember the pic from December 1970 where they were going to court to dissolve The Beatles and how long it was? Yikes!

Not sure if she asked him to shave it off, but seems like he gradually did it. He had "mutton chops" (large sideburns) after he shaved off the beard, before he and Linda were married, then on their wedding day, the mutton chops were gone.
When he and Linda moved to Scotland was when he let the beard grow back. He was going through a rough time, and feeling depressed about the Beatles and having to sue his former bandmates, etc., and I think he just didn't care about making an effort to shave every day, and that was easier for him... just my opinion.
As you know, I've always liked Paul's beards and mustaches at various times, lol... especially Dreamy Bearded Rooftop Paul during their final concert. I don't mind the longer beard, I think it makes him look distinguished... kind of like the Captain smoking a pipe in "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir"....

The photo you posted is from when he came back from India in 1968 (later I mean, like April) This is Mar. 26th:
-
May 14, 1968
Late June 1968:
July 28, 1968
-
Then he grew his first beard in the fall of 1968:
And sometime after the Let It Be movie was filmed, he shaved it so he looked like this at their wedding:
-
Sorry Linda, Paul’s cute face (and me) hijacked your thread! To make up for it, here you are with Paul on Dec. 31, 1970. Paul with his big old beard!

The beard had gone by mid-February (1969) when Paul was promoting Mary Hopkin's Postcard album.

Great photo, such a cutie!
Thanks for the info about Paul's look when he returned from India. This is the mutton chops look I was thinking of... Paul and Linda at the film premiere of "Isadora" on March 4, 1969, 8 days before their wedding. From these photos we know he didn't have the beard at least a week or so before they were married And from what Kestrel posted, we know it was gone by February.

Thanks Kestrel! So it sounds like he just decided to shave it and was not done just for the wedding.

I just watched a great interview of Paul from 1984 and he was asked “Why Linda?” He answered “Woman. She was a woman, not a girl. And kind. She was very kind.” (I’m paraphrasing) Here’s the interview. He was so cute and funny! They had to cut some stuff out and mute parts so it wouldn’t get taken down, but the entire interview is there.

It can never be proved conclusively but I suspect Paul shaved off his beard on 1st February 1969, the day after cameras stopped rolling on what was to become the 'Let It Be' project. It was definately gone by the 13th anyway.

That makes sense that he would want to keep the beard until filming was completely done, in case they had to do retakes or something.

Thanks so much for sharing this, Nancy! I think another reason Paul loved Linda so much is because she was always herself, a very genuine and natural person. And in saying she's a woman, he could have meant she was mature enough in her thinking that he could trust she loved him for him, not for what he was, and would always take good care of him and provide a comfortable and stable home life, etc.
