What song did Paul have to check for plagiarism?
-
I remember reading somewhere, and I'm sure it's common knowledge, that Paul had a tune in his head, but didn't want to use it until he made sure it wasn't something he had heard before. I can't for the life of me remember what it was. Can anyone help me?

Yeah, that was Yesterday. He had the tune for quite a long time before it was recorded for the Help! LP

Thank you!!!!!!!

He dreamed it, and when he woke up he remembered it. He didn't think it was really his, or he could get that lucky. So he went around to everyone he could think of who really knew a lot about music to find out if they had ever heard it before. No one had. He also had the music for a long time titled "Scrambled Eggs" until he thought of the words for "Yesterday". He also had the idea to put an Electronic music backing on it instead of the string quartet the song is so famous for.

When CACITBY came out I remember a few cooments on how similar the opening to Anyway was to People Get Ready............

Thank you!!!! Anita~ You can remove this thread if you want to. I got all the information needed!

Hah imagine if back then Yesterday really turned out to be an old tune - interesting if a hypothetical judge and jury would respect the subconscious dream alibi..

Lyrically, there is a slight similarity to "Answer Me, My Love," a song made popular by Nat Cole in the 1950s: "You were mine yesterday, I believed that love was here to stay."

Wow! Yes, there is a real similarity - if you just listen to the line 'Yesterday, I believed my love was here to stay' it has a melodic similarity. Also the bit where he says 'Just what sin have I been guilty of' reminds me of Wanderlust too. I reckon THIS is the song Paul heard in his dream. -
The string arrangement is a similar melody, but this is hardly plagiarism. Back in '97, two of my high-school friends told me that "The World Tonight" sounded exactly like a Squeeze song. I still have no idea what song they were talking about.
