Paul's Signature

Ok, here's an update. My dad - having found out that the Paul sig was fake - came across something even more special. He just received this gift and decided to give it to me (since he's more of a Beatles fan rather than Wings). I felt my heart race! Pretty cool piece. Looks far more legit than my previous one. I think I can rest comfortably now. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/9998_3000853198340_1453848626_n.jpg
That is definitely his siggie! A great gift!!

a friend of his owed him a favor. i guess he had a pretty extensive collection of memorabilia. the signatures are sharp, and the album looks like it has never been played. whoever got the signatures must've done it a long time ago (obviously). the best part is that the album was just sitting, wrapped up collecting dust, for years. i will treasure it now. gonna get it framed.

That must've been quite the favor! Congratulations. Enjoy it!

Have to tell you that I'm upset at the moment. But, this is not a rant. Don't get me wrong. I thought I'd share. Maybe it might be a warning of some kind, or maybe someone else has gone through this and can offer some words of wisdom. I kinda feel like a huge idiot right now. This past Christmas, I received what was supposed to have been the best gift ever: two photographs specifically addressed and signed to me by Paul McCartney. I was excited for a minute or two, but then I realized that it didn't look like his signature or his handwriting at all. I didn't want to say anything because they were gifts from someone who I loved a great deal. But, I couldn't shake the nagging feeling they weren't real. Plus, I could have been wrong. Maybe Paul decided to sign his name differently that day than he had any other day in the last 50 or so years...? It's possible. At least, that's what I told myself. Quick internet searches (mostly to refresh my memory of exactly what Macca's signature looks like) only added to my feeling of trepidation, yet I thanked this person for the gift. I couldn't let myself get too excited, though. My gut was telling me this wasn't from Paul, I just needed solid proof. I had plenty of people saying, "Uh...you know, I don't think so." but I needed concrete proof. Today, I learned for certain the signed photos I received for Christmas are not real. I guess what gets to me the most is that someone I held very dear to my heart decided to use Paul to try and deceive me. Why does someone do that? I mean, what can be gained? I don't understand that. I'm heartbroken. But, the lesson here is this: if you don't see it, don't believe it. In other words, if you're not standing in front of Paul McCartney watching him sign something for you--use extreme caution. I know there are a lot of things on sites like Ebay that look authentic. But, there aren't that many truly reputable ways to authenticate signatures--well, that won't cost you a lot of money, anyway. This lesson goes double for me, I suppose. I should've listened to my instincts. *sigh* KJ

Shacat, perhaps the person who gave you the gift bought it from eBay or some other place and thinks it is real. I follow another artist and know someone who saw him in person and got an autograph addressed to her. This person owed me money and offered to give me the autographed picture. I agreed even thought it was addressed to someone else's name. I was just glad to have an autograph the I knew was authentic. Just an idea off the top of my head. (Especially if the person who gave you the gift is not as knowledgable and might not recognize the autograph or know to suspect it....

I thought about that, too; that perhaps this was a mistake. But, I'm assured today that wasn't the case. I really wish it had been....

I know the feeling of disappointment. The first time around it's tough, especially when you realize it's a fake. Then something miraculous happens and you get a long-lost Band On The Run album, which I'm 99% certain it's legit. It came from a reputable person who deals specifically with upper-end merchandise and signatures. My dad's known him for years. However, I'll say there's nothing like getting an autograph in person, because then you're 100% certain and you have that memory. It hasn't happened with Paul for me, but I've been fortunate enough to experience that with other people.

Your BOTR album is truly amazing! Not that I wouldn't love to have his autograph, but what bothers me most is that someone who was so dear to me forged Paul's signature (badly) and then lied to me. Makes me feel so....jeez, I don't even know a word to describe it. It's just a sad sad sad situation.
