The Unknown Paul McCartney
-
For those of you who do not know this book it is by Ian Peel and is an interesting read about Paul's more secret and alternative musical activity from the 1960's to the noughties. It is fascinating. If I was still in television I would try and commission a South Bank Show, Imagine, Omnibus style documentary on this subject based around this book. It would be the sort of thing that would be very interested, rather than another dull Beatles documentary. It would be something I would do if I was on Paul's management team too. A good move. Someone should listen.

Perhaps I should rename this thread The very well known man Paul McCartney who sang Hey Jude and nothing else and it will get some interest?

Whoa, did I hear the opening sounds of "Hey Jude"???? Oh look, a thread!

I've not heard of this book, actually, but have thoroughly enjoyed two books that sound similar in subject, but they're about the unknown work of the Beatles, called The Beatles: Undercover and it's follow-up, The Beatles: Deeper Undercover. It also details the work of the solo Beatles when they're produced, written, sung, or played on other artists' songs, but it is more of a list format than a story. Still, very interesting reads!

I have this book and have read it a few times. To be honest, while I agree that it's fascinating, I also think it over-plays both the adventurousness of some of the work covered (the Spies Like Us remixes, for example) and also McCartney's role in some of it. Sure, he had to sign off on them, but there are whole chapters dedicated to obscure mixes/remixes that McCartney didn't actually have a hand in. Regardless, I agree that it's a fascinating book and it shines a light on an otherwise utterly neglected part of Macca's career.

I said I had a 'bake on' (sorry my spelling is poor), it was just nanny cakes that fairy makes. The HP did nothing for their taste though.
