Off the Ground

Yup, Looking for Changes a real struggle. Missed its mark. Tried to put forth something he believed in, but through a mediocre melody and kinda forced lyrics. But, hey, my faves are the slower ones... Winedark Open Sea, I Owe it all to You, Golden Earth Girl... in retrospect, with another world tour, he might've missed the mark a little with the entire album.... did its job, but won't go down as any masterpiece.... ps. I don't mind Biker Like an Icon.... C'mon People is OK.... but nowhere near worthy of 7+ minutes that suggested it was an epic.

To me, Looking for Changes sounds fun from a strictly musical point of view, but when paying more attention to the lyrics, does sound forced (although I appreciate the sentiment)

If anyone can get their hands on "Is It Raining In London?" I will love them forever. And ever. And ever.

Paul can write a great song in his sleep. Sometimes production gets in his way. [/code]You brought tears to my eyes. That was incredibly beautiful!!! If you guys made a cd, I'd buy it in a heartbeat! You sure look a lot like a young John!

Off the Ground is one of my favorite Paul Albums. Hope of Deliverance and Get Out of My Way are my two most favorite songs on the album.

Funny, "Get Out of My Way" is my Exhibit A for why I don't care for about half of Off the Ground. He's trying to sound like Chuck Berry, but there's no real energy or force behind it. The song is sort of the rock 'n' roll equivalent of paint-by-numbers. Like a lot of the album, it feels forced and a little bit tired to me. Paul is, of course, perfectly capable of creating topflight Chuck Berryish songs, as Run Devil Run proved.

Come on, OTG is a good album. Is not brilliant but is pretty well. I always say the same thing: we're talking about Paul, a man who makes music since the sixties, and thirty years later still can make songs like Hope of deliverance or C'mon people. Is obvious, the inspiration will not be the same.

I decided a long time ago to give "Looking For Changes" a free-pass because I think Paul made Linda happy with this song.

Funny, I've always liked Looking for Changes, even though I am not a sympathizer with most of the animal-rights movement. Unlike Get Out of My Way, this is one track where Paul sounds like he means what he's singing.
-
The sincerity and passion are unquestionably apparent in "Looking For Changes," however, the lyrics could be tweaked. Paul said in the MTV Up Close special that the song took a long time to finish, and my hunch is that he was still not quite satisfied with it.

''This is clearly one of the greatest songs of all time.'' A comment left on Youtube regarding the song 'C'mon People' I'm not sure it's one of the very greatest, but it's a damn good song, and if it had been released under The Beatles name would have been considered one of their all time classics in a similar way to Hey Jude. Actually, I'd rather never hear 'Hey Jude' ever again in exchange for 'C'mon People'. Awesome. A monster hit that never was. Criminal.

All we have is the 5-10 seconds on Movin' On. I assume they completely finished the song, didn't they? It was far enough along to have an orchestra. To me, Is It Raining in London is the holy grail of McCartney unreleased solo songs. I love Hamish's vocals and hope I can one day hear the full song.
-
Holy crap! Audi, look what I found: It's not full orchestra, but it's something: Edit: It also doesn't feature Paul. Bummer. At least we know what the song sounds like.

OTG is 1 of my least favorite. The songwriting seems forced & the music overproduced. I do like the 2 Elvis collaborations & Golden Earth Girl. It also had a lot of expectations after the melodic comeback album Flowers & the successful Unplugged album. It was a big letdown for me upon hearing it the 1st time. It hasnt aged well either.

Nah. "C'mon People" tries real hard (maybe a little too hard), but never quite gets off the ground, so to speak. Like "Get Out of My Way," the thing just feels forced to me, like Paul thought it was time to do a "big" song, but didn't really have the inspiration to pull it off. I could live without ever hearing it again and wouldn't feel terribly deprived. But it's all a matter of taste in the end.

Oh, yes. Posted by a boardie who no longer comes 'round here anymore.

In my opinion, Get Out Of My Way and C'mon People have the same problem they are too long, and the ending is too repetitive. Take a few minutes/repetitions off, and they're quite good songs. Other songs on Off The Ground have that problem, such as Biker Like An Icon, even if I love this one... up to the point where I start to find it too repetitive and skip the song.
-
C'mon People is the last attempt of make an anthem like Hey Jude. But it happens in many bands or artists... for example, Innuendo is an attempt of make something similar than Bohemian Rhapsody. Anway, OTG is a disc made only for fans. A person who doesn't like Paul's music will feel that OTG is irrelevant, making the exception in Hope Of Deliverance, the most equilibrated song of the album.

This is a favorite album of mine... From Off the Ground, with Paul flying... It's metaphorically soaring to me. I also have dreams of flying, so that one always lifts me every time I see that video of Paul sailing through the clouds and above the ground! Hope of Deliverance is one of my top songs. A very positive song with a great melody and lyrics. I Owe it All to You is another one that I love...time travel to distant lands, of course I would like that one... yep L2T Peace in the Neighborhood, well it's the center of a Love Vibration!! Love the lyrics especially... Golden Earth Girl Linda, so beautiful and an ode to his love for his wife... so beautiful. Love the play on words Fish in a sunbeam in Egg Shell Seas(in excels is latin for the highest degree) Winedark Open Sea another "Paul" song as he's sailing along, as only Paul sails. Very beautiful song. C'mon People is another one of my favorites... so full of hope and optimism and that's why I really love Paul's songs and lyrics. There is that golden thread of Peace Love Hope and Optimism that wends it's way through all of Paul's music in all it's incarnations, classical, Pop and even the Fireman music!! GREAT ALBUM !!
