Pauls instagram

http://www.paulmccartney.com/whatsnew/ Is there any way to enter this without having a camera phone? As far as i can tell to post on instagram you have to have an app on your phone and use your camera phone etc. I tried to sign up online once, it wouldn't let me - it wanted me to download their app to my phone/ipad/etc. i don't have a camera phone, i don't even have a phone that has web access! Call me old fashioned, or call me a photographer (please do!), but i use a CAMERA to take photos - you remember those things?! Linda was a dab hand with one.. This isn't the first instance of there being a photo competition (though i know this "new" isnt a comp) that you can only enter through instagram, lots of things/people im interested in only do this now. Even Mary McCartneys lowry exhibition had a photo comp where you entered pictures to win - but only through instagram! I don't have a camera phone, why oh why cant these things allow web access as well?! Instead of only through an app on your phone? So is there ANY way to use/post on instagram through a desktop PC using a normal camera? And not an app on an iphone/camera phone etc? Am i being technologically blind and missing the obvious?! (yes, i'm sulking! But that's cos in the real world i do take a lot of photographs and would like to make it as a photographer. But i get left behind by technology, and i sulk!) /end of sulk!

I agree. This is just another form of discrimination.

Indeed. My Nikon D200 is very angry right now. Smartphone snobs is what they are. I'm getting rid of my data plan at years end, anyway. Costs too much and I hardly use it.

Where did it ever say it was a competition or contest? I thought it was just for fun! Egad! Can I delete ones I posted? Oh well, never mind. Podgie (Not a pretty girl, don't stand a chance) Monkey

It's not a contest~

Yes, i know it isn't. Which is why in my post i said and i quote -

The Mary photograph competition was only through instagram, as is a ton of other sites and people i like. I appreciate the replies on here, but do 2 of you not read the opening posts fully before replying?! I KNOW its not a competition! I was just using it as a way to vent off on here about damn instagram, while also asking if i'm right that you can only use it through a camera phone/iphone type device. /end 2nd rant

I think it was your words "This isn't the first instance" that threw me. No one ever reads what's inside parenthesis. Podgie (that's why I use them all the time) Monkey

ok ok for being someone who gets their words mixed up whilst trying to explain things, i hereby abdicate my place on the Paul forum and will leave it to someone who fits in better! (Marys was a comp, mcfc do it as comps, and some people do it as fun things to submit - such as this, but the point i was making is that not everyone can enter/submit that wants to. But i'll not let the door hit me on my way out *bumtish*)

I explored downloads of desktop versions of Instagram - often emulators that make your PC pretend to be a smartphone. Software is offered on-line but I got so bogged down in malware and virus alerts it's not a route I can recommend. Martin

Just get the free app from the Chrome store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/instagram-for-chrome/opnbmdkdflhjiclaoiiifmheknpccalb?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon and you get instagram on your browser. That is, if you use Chrome. you should

Every review for that says that "its good, but it wont let you up load pictures from your PC". So it kind of defeats the point! Anyone can view instagram on a PC, either using webstagram or what not, but it's being able to sign up and then POST a picture that seems to be impossible! I have bigger things to worry today about so i'll leave it there i guess! (reslams door on way out - heheheh!)

Your Abbey Road crossing is the best one Podgie!

I don't have one smartphone, but I realize that I need one, not just for this particular case, at this times of "evolution" one can't be disconected, I know is awful, but is just the way it is ...

Well, so far all the contest have been only towards artist using the latest trendy technology to upload. but I was surprised to see in my Facebook newsfeed a picture of my kitty on her blankie on Paul's Facebook page from this contest. (and no, I didn't submit it)

I understand. People on facebook copy everything.

I felt a bit guilty 'cause at first I thought "oh Gawd what a totally boring, unimaginative concept for a photo contest," but had a look see, and a few of the submissions feature a certain mild visual appeal. Sort of. I thought of getting a tight wet tee shirt that says "New" and putting it on and submitting that, but my (I've been told right often) impressively buxom chest isn't plastic and "new" (LOL), wouldn't want anybody to think that (laughs)!
-
I think there are quite a few creative submissions there.

Yeah, my favorite is Podgie's Abbey Road crossing.

Yes, that is a good one.
