kapoo:
So what is this song about, and who wrote it? Upon first listen I'm not all that impressed.
Kapoo! I am disappointed at your reaction! You've never heard the original song by The Hollies?
It's about a soldier carrying a wounded buddy. P.S. It was recorded in Abbey Road Studios with Elton John on the piano! -

So when will we know if Paul has had another number one in the UK? I mean, what day of the week are the singles chart released? It will be his fifth number one as "part of a music ensemble" as defined by Guiness World of Records. you know... from wiki... "Credited with more number ones in the UK than any other artist, McCartney has participated in twenty-four chart topping singles: seventeen with the Beatles, one solo, and one each with Wings, Stevie Wonder, Ferry Aid, Band Aid, Band Aid 20 and "The Christians et al."[367][nb 48] He is the only artist to reach the UK number one as a soloist ("Pipes of Peace"), duo ("Ebony and Ivory" with Wonder), trio ("Mull of Kintyre", Wings), quartet ("She Loves You", the Beatles), quintet ("Get Back", the Beatles with Billy Preston) and as part of a musical ensemble for charity (Ferry Aid)."

UK Christmas number 1.
-
Paul is back at the top of the charts as part of "Justice collective" who have covered the Hollies "he aint heavy(he's my brother)" to raise money for the families of Hillsborough support group.
-
Not just a number one for the Justice Collective.... But the Official UK Christmas Number One, with the chart announced today being the last chart published for the week prior to December 25th. Congratulations to the Collective for negotiating the promotional minefield to achieve this feat. http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/the-justice-collectives-hillsborough-tribute-crowned-christmas-number-1-2012-1774/ The latest news from the campaign is that the coroners verdicts of accidental death for the 96 victims of the Hillsborough Disaster have been set aside and new inquests ordered in the light of recent revelations discovered and published by the Independent Review this year. This feat gives additional invaluable publicity to the on-going campaign for Justice for the victims. Martin

UK Christmas number 1.
yep, wonderful news. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/hillsborough-charity-single-wins-chart-shootout-8430532.html They played it at half time at city yesterday, i sat there looking around our stadium and i started crying (i'm a bit emotional lately anyway) picturing all those flowers laid on anfields pitch in 89 amongst other things.. So so glad it's number one for the families.
-
Excellent! This is Maccas first Number 1 single of any sort since the Ferry cross The Mersy tribute charity single in.....88 or 89? Someone clarify. But impressive. Personally I prefer the original and Macca of course gets a bit of a solo at the end, but to critisize is to miss the point: It's for a rather good cause.
-
He played bass on Band Aid 20 so I guess that's technically the last number 1.
-
I think its a really good , well made version .

We've moved this topic into the Not Such A Bad Boy forum to give the topic more lasting acknowledgement. Several other delighted posts on the subject have been merged into this one to give the news due prominence. Martin

The ironic thing is that the single that was competing for the Christmas no. 1 this year against "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" was a song called "Impossible" by UK X Factor 2012 winner, James Arthur. In second place was Jahmene Douglas. If Jahmene had won, the winners single would have been a cover of "Let It Be"! So Paul's collaboration with the Justice Collective would have been competing for the no. 1 spot with a cover of his own song!
-
One particular contribution to this singles success what that with the full cooperation of the UK football leagues the single was played at every major - and minor - soccer match last weekend with a stadium introduction and an invitation to buy the single to promote the cause. The cause is very close to all soccer fans hearts as they can identify very closely with events on a "that could have happened to me" basis. The event cause the introduction of legally required all seater stadiums and the removal of the fences that prevented the crushed fans escaping onto the pitch. Whilst some may look back fondly at the "mosh-pit" atmosphere of a standing terrace the events of that day brought about major changes that have brought greater safety at soccer matches. It also brought about an end to "turn up and pay cash" entries to matches as ticketed entry ensured that numbers entering the stadium can be better controlled. Martin

This really irks me how anyone can say the best thing is Paul's contribution, he's hardly on it, how is his input any greater than Holly Johnson's it really angers me. Anyway truth & justice for the 96 YNWA
-
as I said... "This is the way it should be"
-
Yay! The Xfactor didn't get it!! Thanks Paul and co. !
