NEW PAUL & NIRVANA SONG
-
JennyLP:
I agree....the song itself is not so great, the lyrics, really? But I think I got caught up in the live version at the concert and can watch that over and over. Just the idea of Paul and Nirvana playing together.....did not pay much attention to the lyrics at the time...
I absolutely love this song!!!! Just purchased it on iTunes. It sounds great! Very heavy!!!! Paul sounds great; plays some awesome lead guitar. The vocals are just fine. I mean, "Helter Skelter" wasn't loved because of its lyrics...it was the overall sound that made it great! And that's what the new song with Nirvana is all about. The incredible sound! And Paul plays some great lead guitar!!!!!

I know I'm a broken record but it's not 'a song with Nirvana'. Its a song with the ex-Nirvana band members. but whatever Kurt was Nirvana, and he didn't play on it. And I'm talking Kurt could have had ANYONE playing with him when Nirvana was a band, as great as Dave was as a drummer. there were plenty of hard hitting drummers, Dave happened to be available. And Krist is an average bassist. the artistic input in the actual band Nirvana was like 90% Kurt. minimum. I know I ain't gonna change the freight train of misnomer in this case, so all I can do is chime back in every once in a while.

Admittedly, I don't think they'd be getting a free-pass on dubbing it a Nirvana-reunion if Dave Grohl didn't have so much clout in his own right.

Correct sir, for sure. In fact, as far as Dave Grohl is concerned it's almost the best thing that could have happened to him artistically, getting out of the band Nirvana. He had so much more to give as an artist. But there are interviews out there that I've seen where Dave says that Kurt's songs were just so much better than his own at that time. He was just blown away by the songs Kurt had that he felt probably a little like George in the Beatles. I can't bring in my stuff against this/these obvious genius'. I love the Foo Fighters though. I bought their/Dave's (since he plays everything himself) first album the day it came out and was amazed at how good it was. You ever heard the song Dave did write and release while a member of Nirvana, called Marigold? B-Side of the Heart Shaped Box single
Little known fact also, Dave was in fact writing and had a bunch of demos before (and was working on them on the side even when he was in) Nirvana, under a suedoname 'Late'. Songs obviously couldn't touch Nevermind though.. not sure if it ever got released. I've never heard those songs. maybe some got released on his first album. -
Great song. The studio take will be released on CD next February: http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/soundtrack-for-dave-grohls-sound-city-doc-features-trent-reznor-josh-homme-stevie-nicks-more-20121217

I've just posted this in reply elsewhere but worth repeating: The song comes from not Nirvana sessions but sessions led by Dave Grohl for an upcoming documentary about the legendary Sound City Studios where Dave and Paul laid this track down:

So it looks Paul's not gonna have a hit with this. He can't compete with the likes of Gangnam Style. Gangnam Style, with lyrics translated to English

However, I'm not surprised that he had his ambitions: He's a Capricorn. There's a very ominous photo in that YT vid, by the way.

Or maybe it's a Yoko/Sirvana collaboration called "(Heart Shaped) Lunch Box /Old Sox" as reported here http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=85296&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=sox

I stand corrected, I should have said Dave/Paul song...he is the only reason I liked Nirvana anyway....

Jenny LP just couldn't get enough of those drum parts okay fair enough Dave's a tremendously cool guy, I love him. and I love the Foo's. There's an arguement to be made for him as a better songwriter than Kurt. at least more palatable. But I tend to side on Kurt being a bit more impactful in what he did. and not even talking about his impact at the time bring grunge to the forefront and selling 10 million albums out of nowhere and going #1. I'm just talking about the immediacy of his songs. I tend to revere things which are very different from myself. and Kurt's skill set was completely different from my own. and I was jealous of it. he was a powerhouse. in this little tiny meek body. very talented kid. Dave Grohl is much more like me. just way better at everything

Hey Jen, you like Travis Barker from Blink 182? man that guy can really play! he's incredible. so intricate and fast. Dave's more powerful perhaps, and obviously a better musician/writer, but Travis is perhaps my fav drummer out there.

The song has dropped out of the top 200 on iTunes. I'm hoping that the release of the documentary and soundtrack will kickstart the song.

Why the track wasn't promoted at pm.com's homepage is beyond me.

I did enjoy Blink 182 at one time....they had great videos. Travis is terrific....but he just isn't Dave..
