Paul, Hampden Park, Glasgow, 20th June - ARCHIVE

This concert is fast gaining legendary status and should be released on DVD. There'll never be another Paul McCartney and the guy is just phenomenal. Much love and respect for his music always.

I saw Paul in Glasgow in 1990,and he nailed the high notes a lot more convincingly on some of his more challenging songs better at Hampden last Sunday.
Yeah, Glasgow was one of the best dates on that tour. However,on average, he is singing better now than on that tour (he was out of practice!). In 1990 I witnessed him croak (literally) during Let it Be, and regularly lower the high note in Yesterday. The `89-90 tour was fraught with vocal problems, and anyone who says it wasn`t has rose-coloured hearing aids! But alot of this nonsense from Mr Dynamite and others is about nostalgia, of course.

its always hard to tell how good vocally he is when your at the concert. as you are excited at seeing him there are all the emotions of seeing him live the visuals the fireworks in live and let die etc the true test is to listen to a recording of the concert and then you have nothing to distract you from the vocals No one can expect anyone to sing for 3 hours without the odd mistake. especially if that pesron is 68. pauls still got it. A few years a go I saw Billy J Krammer live in Liverpool Oh dear he dosnt have it his voice has gone it was like a drunk uncle at a Karaoke. but listening back to the Hampden concert You will find Paul is on form its the best I have heard him in ages.

Paul was on top form! End of. anyway, I found my 'moment'of when he pointed at me as I clearly did not remember the 1960s! I think I should have behaved and not shook my head so much, I could have died but I was elated too!

That's so great! Thanks for sharing, really wish I'd been down the front as well. Not to worry I suppose, maybe next time. So cool that he spoke to you, I think I would have died on the spot!

I've been searching youtube for video of hey tube so i can see my cushion! There's nothing very clear been posted yet. I wish it was this time last week so we still had the gig to look forward to! I'm still on a high and wish i could see him again! I hope he realised how much he's missed the scottish crowd and comes back to us soon!
I was in Block AA7 Row K and caught the end of Hey Jude on my camera. Just uploaded it to YouTube. Is this the cushion you were looking for?!
Hehe, that's the one! It brings a huge smile to my face. I couldn't believe it when the guy zoomed in on it and it stayed there! I'm easily pleased! I had a great weekend, and once again, was great to meet you guys from the forum. Thanks for helping make one of the best weekends ever. I wouldn't have been the same if i hadn't met you X
Hey christinemacca, Did you make the cushion? It's very cool that it was on the monitor like that!

I agree. I still have Liverpool Sound on my Sky Plus. I would love to have a full unedited DVD of the gig at Hampden.

im afraid the rose tinted hearing aids are far more likely to be around your head. mccartney was fantastic in 1989/90 world tour. i saw him in london twice andliverpool. i am not some kind of fool. i know what i am listening too. today he is still very good for his age and at times he sings the rockers even better. however none of his signature ballads sound better today. just get out 'tripping' cd or a bootleg of 1989/90 and you will perhaps stop deluding yourself over this!

So... some of thinks he's still excellent today, some of us thinks he's not so excellent anymore, so what? Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. I think he still rocks, he's a brilliant singer, a great musician, etc. And I hope he keeps on going for many more years. Peace.

not me! i think hes still excellent today.his show is unbeatable ,hes amazing. im just honest enough to observe that some of his signiture tunes were better vocally when he was younger, that all. does it affect the mccartney live experiance for me?.....not a jot! its only an age thing and its totally understandable. infact im constantly suprised at the way he sings many of his rockers these days.they suit his ageing voice better as the years go by! for example i would say his modern versions of 'helter skelter' is actually better than the original.

Having had the misfortune of being born as late as 1975 (I was days old when Venus and Mars was released) I would've loved to have seen Paul at Salford University in 1972 with his fledgling Wings (my grandmother worked there and remembers Maxwell Hall being packed to the rafters) or later on the 1975 and 1979 UK tours. I've listened to the Glasgow bootleg ('79) many times and I love the edginess of his vocals on Old Siam, Sir and Getting Closer. Skip forward 35 years and Paul still remains a relevant musical force on the live circuit. Fellow contemporaries and knights of the realm like Sir Elton have really put on some flab around the vocal chords In Elton's case, even the tender ballads sound bombastic and forced Macca's doing great and long may it continue.

Hi Lazy, great photo of you and Wix I was sat in Block AA7 (Row K) and saw you mugging the camera! I managed to get a photo of someone else with Wix but by the time i'd got my sh*t together, Wix had done a runner before I could approach him. In fairness, he was very patient and signed numerous autographs for fans. Seems like a genuinely top bloke. Rather unbelievably, there was a guy and his wife sat behind me who tapped me on the shoulder and asked "so who's that again?" I admit I was a little sarky when I replied "Macca's keyboard player for the last 21 years."
