Eight years ago today, I attended my first ever Paul McCartney live show - at Hampden Park in Glasgow - as part of his Up and Coming Tour.
My girlfriend at time time didn't really "get it" and think she just wanted to see a Beatle live and her lack of enthusiasm was evident by about half way through as she was looking decidely bored.
I do remember it being a cold day but the opener of 'Venus and Mars/Rock Show' was just amazing since I'd watched the 'Rockshow' VHS numerous times over the years. Been lucky enough to see Paul live a couple of times since in Liverpool and hoping to again this year if he tours the UK - though not in Glasgow since Paul hasn't sold out a show there since the Seventies.

I remember it as being a really warm day. I'd paid silly money to be front row but it was worth it just to hear Venus and Mars/Rockshow as the opener. The technical hitch at the start meant there was unscripted banter as well!
For a useless bit of trivia, I was standing beside Mark Beaumont's mum - he's the endurance cyclist who holds the world record for cycling round the world and who has just broken the British record for the distance ridden on a Penny Farthing in one hour!

I remember the technical hitch too! I was with my dad seeing Paul for the second time & as soon as he said "Good evening Hampden!" everyone cheered but I was sitting there like "Something's gone wrong" I loved the show too, I can imagine him selling out the Hyrdo if he comes back to Scotland anytime soon

Realistically, I just can't see him coming back up to Scotland for a show ever again.
He played the SECC in 1990 and failed to sell it out, his next show up here was the Hampden one in 2010 and that failed to sell out too, so why travel all the way up here with the cost of crew accommodation when he knows full well that people like us are willing to travel down south to see him.
It's worth noting too, that tickets for the Hampden show were on sale on the day itself for just £5 (my ticket was £55 plus fees much like you two, I guess) to try and fill out the stadium and it still didn't sell out.

Much as I’d like to disagree with you Johnny, I can’t unless he was to announce a farewell UK arena tour - that might just generate enough “last chance to see a Beatle in Scotland” publicity for the Hydro to sell out. Sadly the days of Macca playing and selling out shows in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen are distant 1970s memories
