That's a shame about this site.... I wrote an email to Stuart Bell who does the blogs for the site. It's a down right shame that the only news that we seem to get is from things that have already happened. Never any updates aboutthings we want to know about like the new album's status and projected release and projects like the guitar concerto and the tribute album with Kiss and The Cure on it....those two were years ago. The status of the Archive Collection, does it stop after that last two on the flyer? Or do we start over on a new flyer? It's a shame that they are so out of touch of what the fan's eally want to know about!!!!! Sing the Changes!!!
I couldn't agree more Bob ,even in the Club Sandwich days back in the '70's and '80's the fans had behind the scenes articles and photos of whatever project Paul or Wings were doing.

We used to get alot more inside & accurate info from the good old Beatle Book mag back in the day.....now we have 24 / 7 access to info & 99 % of it is utter cack or lies !
-
Another surprising thing, is all of the recent interviews...how can no interviewer be asking the question about the new album unless the questions don't get answered or they are told to stay off the topic. Like the latest Rolling Stone magazine, all we get is a small blurb that he was doing finishing touches. I find it hard to believe that a reporter didn't follow up about it. Even the video interview from South America back in May he only described the album as a typical Paul McCartney album...some help right. We got better details from the false album reported in April!! Don't understand why everything is such a secret in the MPL world..other bands have no problems announcing these things on their fan sites!

Paul's marketing-machine has improved drastically since the Chaos era, particularly once newly released projects are in full swing. Memory Almost Full was a nearly flawless campaign, despite some overlapping of single-releases. The same can be said for Kisses. Lately, however, it does seem that a lot of news, direct from his camp, is rarely news.
Agreed it has improved. Something just tells me that it will all tie in with this Feb 2014 being 50 years since.........well we all know......... I wouldn't be surprised if they are waiting for that. But, who knows? Also to echo many other posters the back catalog release is such a mystery. Can't understand why he doesn't just get all the re releases one right after the other?

... Well I have asked one of his personal security guys at the hotel in Verona - he said its due to release, so I suppose automn is still on the agenda

I'm assuming the silence about the new album is due to his marketing machine carefully focusing on whatever the priority is at the moment. They wanted to be sure to sell as many WOA reissues as possible without the distraction of a work-in-progress. I'm sure that he does set preconditions on interviews (like Rolling Stone and Stephen Colbert) to stick to the current topic. In recent years especially, they do their best to make every McCartney project an event. Mark my words, there will be a marketing bonanza around the new album, then probably further reissues starting next year... unless he puts out another live album first!

oh yeah...I see those WOA commercials all the time.

Hmm... what marketing machine? Maybe I'm missing something here in Spain, perhaps it only reaches the States and the UK or so... Paul is not in a major record company, Paul is kind in a indie, almost out of mainstream... who's gonna promote the album in a heavy way? Paul himself if ever, MPL, but he's not into that, he prefers touring instead of doing lots of repetitive interviews, appearing on TV, you know, he quited that after 1993 or so... I mean, I don't think Paul is going to duet with Rihanna or Pitbull... I don't think his main concern are the sales of the record...
-
McCartney's marketing team is horrible. I've never been impressed. However, if he wants to sell records to a new audience he needs to put out the best song as a single. For the last few albums he released a different song to radio. He needs to release the same song that he releases to radio as the single that he wants them to play. They need to be one in the same in order for the single and the album to be successful and to create buzz. In terms of real marketing, if he truly is releasing the album in October we should be hearing the single off of it within the next few weeks. As much I would love to hear a McCarney #1 single in my lifetime, I realize that will probably never happen. I was 7 months old the last time he had a top 10 hit in the US, so I'd settle for one more!!!

Exactly. Geez, give us a teaser. A couple of song titles, anything! All we get is Staurt Bell's crap, trumpeting how good Paul is...after the fact. Even stuff like a few song titles or telling us which musos contributed to the new album would probably warrant a new thread and create some buzz... It ain't gonna be detrimental to it FFS...

Probably the most inept in the business. Without a doubt.

Why don't you ask one of these questions to McCartney, maybe it would be selected - lol (note sarcasm)

Well, that's not what I was saying. I'm saying the marketing machine for that has been aimed straight at us, via emails and the website homepage and that kind of thing. The new album will be marketed mostly to us, too, I think, as far as singles, deluxe versions of the album, etc. Still, I expect he will be blitzing the talk shows, the morning "news" shows, radio stations, and so on. The album won't sell in massive amounts, but it could hit #1 if the timing is right, and let's face it, Paul likes the publicity. Even for "Electric Arguments" he did "The View" and that outdoor concert for David Letterman's show. He certainly won't be hiding himself this time, even if the majority of young people completely miss it.

Recent McCartney records have charted pretty high the first week of release but drop real quick after that unfortunately.

That's the standard pattern with established artists. The fan base all buys the album the first week and then sales trail off. Radio play, touring, TV appearances and viral videos can help keep things going. It's hard for older artists to get on the radio, but it would help if Paul managed to release a single and video of the same song at the same time, which they didn't do for MAF in the U.S. (where we got Ever Present Past as a (fairly successful) radio single and a simultaneous video for Dance Tonight. I don't get where people are coming from saying there's a lack of promotion for the WOA reissue. He's touring and went on The Colbert Report, one of the hotter late-night shows. That's pretty decent.

IMO- McCartney could have the greatest marketing team in the world and I don't think it would matter with sales of his new records. Like you said, people into his new music will buy it early but most of the people attending his concerts and on this website just care about him playing his Beatle hits live. CHAOS got critical acclaim (even RS - lol) and McCartney went on TV and toured with it. CHAOS also was nominated for major Grammy awards and McCartney played "Fine Line" on the award ceremony show. With all that, the record sold decently but was nowhere close to being a blockbuster selling record.

I agree, i think if Paul released the greatest album of his life it would still sell poorly in comparison to Adele and her ilk, which is depressing. As much as i love his work if a little more thought had gone into his song selection over the years it would have improved most of his output, and so maybe the fans that left him in the early '80's might have stayed the course, it's just a thought.

Yeah, "Spies Like Us" certainly didn't do him any favors with the fans. He went too far in pleasing the public but dampened enthusiasm for the following album. (Still a sour taste from "Broad Street" too, and many fans were unhappy with the Jackson and Wonder duets, of course.)
-
The Olympics didn't do him any favours... eurgh He needs to do some kind of humorous interview or something for the next album's promotion, Jonathan Ross in the UK would be perfect
-
I Like to see him on Graham Norton....
